I liked how Ross trusted and believed in Sharpe completely. Quick to suggest him promoted Colonel because he knows Sharpe with get the job done better than most.

Wellington really is a great tactician. Doesn't believe in the rebellion nonsense, but knows Calvert is on his flank and can be troublesome. Sending a force would move them away. By giving command to some young punk, he gets the support of his father, and he knows Sharpe will make sure the mission succeeds.

I love how Harper basically leveraged the situation to get more brandy from the colonel, while Sharpe, Hagman, and Harris made fun of him the whole episode, but in the end it was his sore tooth that helped them take the fort.
    Patrick's magic sore tooth.

For such a brave soldier, Harper is surprisingly afraid to get his abscessed tooth pulled out. It would obviously hurt like a son of a "B" but Harper had been through worse.

As someone with bad teeth who's had to have some pulled, I'm grateful for novocaine! I had one tooth that was so bad, they gave me 3 shots and it still was too painful to touch - they had to give me another 2 shots before it was numb enough to get it out! I don't even want to think of what that would have been like had there been no novocaine. Harper gets a pass on this from me.

People die from abscesses and stuff, right? You'd think that during that time period, when medicine was still primitive but starting to become decent, they would be very aware of the dangers and it always seemed a little unrealistic and "modern" to have Pat so willing to suffer. I can almost see it being in his character, everyone has their thing they don't like, like Indiana Jones with snakes lol but the risk of actual death from a bad tooth at that time period seems far too high to leave it.

I’m not a military historian, but wouldn’t it be perhaps possible to capture the fort using deception? Maybe have English soldiers who are fluent in french capture a bunch of french soldiers, make themselves appear bloodied and injured, and march to the castle under the pretense that they were attacked by the English on the way from a different location and that they’ve lost their papers and orders, and are in dire need of assistance. Maybe give up pieces of information about the English strength and location to appear genuine and trick the defenders?
