In the terrifying thriller SONGBIRD, the COVID-23 virus has mutated and the world is
in its fourth year of lockdown. Infected Americans are ripped from their homes and
forced into quarantine camps known as Q-Zones, from which there is no escape, as
a few brave souls fight back against the forces of oppression. Amid this dystopian
landscape, a fearless courier, Nico (KJ Apa), who’s immune to the deadly pathogen,
finds hope and love with Sara (Sofia Carson), though her lockdown prohibits them
from physical contact. When Sara is believed to have become infected, Nico races
desperately across the barren streets of Los Angeles in search of the only thing that
can save her from imprisonment ... or worse.

The movie idea, according to Wikipedia, was conceived in March. That would be after we learned about the virus. The disease that occured from SARS-CoV-2 was discovered in 2019,hence people calling it Covid-19.
Sars-CoV already exists, Covid is just a specific strand. People make epidemic/pandemic disaster movies all the time, it's not crazy to think that Michael Bay is just trying to cash in on current events, but suggesting he knew about the virus before anyone else is pretty paranoid thinking.
I'd be more worried about how tacky it is to release a movie about this specific virus while it's still raging through our country and how much more paranoia the apparent theme is going to spread.

They should force this 1 women, who didn't self isolate at home, like she was suppose too. To pay all their hotel bills, now their all in locked up in a hotel.

I'm gonna go with no, it obviously wasn't revised when the male lead is immune but inexplicably can't have contact with his girlfriend. A flaw that large in the basic premise implies very few people actually read it before it hit production.

With the mortality rate so low we should protect the elderly and immunocompromised. Then go about our normal life with only social distancing. When symptoms arise we have many therapeutics we can use for earl and later stage infections. Let the virus go through the host reservoir and we will be able gain hurd immunity! An average vaccine takes about 10-12 years to be developed. We can't go on living like this. Even the flu vaccine is about 30% effective! Forget about just the economy. Society will break down more than it already has!

That comes down to 2 months of pre-production, a month of shooting, and 3 months of post-production. For comparison, The Asylum can do all of that in two months.

I understand why you would think this film began production in May. I'm guessing it's because of the Wikipedia page. Quick tidbit of information though,..anyone can add notes to Wikipedia.
With that being stated, let's say this production did in fact begin in May. There's no way the script was written that fast because scripts have to be sold to Studios for funding that particular project. Not every studio approves scripts on first presentation either, so the script then is shopped around until a studio picks it up.
This script had to be written before hand. Which means they had prior knowledge of the event.
Unless its an absolutely horrible script that was written in a week.
Furthermore May is only 2 months after March. The U.S. didn't shutdown until late March so you mean to tell me Michael Bay made a movie based on a situation that was only a month and a few weeks into it. COME ON MAN🤦🏽♂️

If I were a movie producer with money to burn, I'd absolutely make a COVID movie like this, with the intention of seeing how scary I could make it. Horror movies are often way more efficient at scaring you if they're grounded in reality. It makes for powerful creeping horror if done right. I think this movie is meant to inspire fear, but not because the government is trying to control you - that's coming to a conclusion that I think isn't quite right. I think it's trying to invoke fear for a more artistic purpose. Using our current fears to amplify the horror of the movie. It'll be interesting to see how effective it is, I'll watch it

Studios rush sh!t like this in hopes of cashing in on whatever is popular for better or for worse.
A screenwriter talented or not can write a screenplay in a month w/ little to no rewrites.
Also given this film’s leads they didn’t really need to delve deep and search hard for a b-list up-comer star who’d say “yes”. Most of the big actors; Alexandra Daddario, Demi Moore, Peter Stomare and Bradley Whitford are used as basically star power cameos or secondary roles.
Also the film itself was shot in two and a half weeks w/ very little on-set safety precautions hence why the SAG-AFTRA issued a *Do Not Work* order on this film.
All the signs of how quickly this film spun into production and how little time spent on it just goes to show you it’s a rushed product w/ little to no quality control on it. Trying to cash-in on a pandemic that everyone hears about everyday.

How the hell did they get a movie put together this fast? c.vid wasn't even taken as a serious threat until Feb of this year. . . Do you know how long it takes to write, cast, fund, scout locations, and make props? . . It's almost like they had prior knowledge. .
It's the low budget and mostly no-name actors that allowed this movie to get finished fast. The props are likely re-used assets from other action films and the location is any generic downtown area. I also won't be surprised if most of the movie takes place in the apartment building or around it, kind of like 10 Cloverfield Lane. As for story and script, it's Michael Bay. He doesn't write the most complex material.

It doesn't take long for a story like this that lacks plot, elaborate set pieces, or locations. My wife is an actress and was in a Covid-Themed indy film that was primarily stock footage and people taking interview-style via webcam that was then compiled together. There was basically no budget and that was Written, Cast, and Produced way back in May. With the resources Michael Bay has it wouldn't take that long. Shitty script, cast a few names, and keep the locations minimal. 6 months production time tops.
