Hello Helen, I have watched your video now in June,2024 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your mom is so sweet smiling through the rain! The museum were wonderful especially the pencil factory! I have always bought too many pencils, colouring pencils and pens, you did well to resist the urge to buy more. I think your purchases were very nice. Thank you for sharing a part of the Lake District!💕
Thank you Helen! I have truly enjoyed this adventure with you and your darling mother! Your buses and trains were so sleek and new and clean - much nicer than here. I did used to drive but have not for a few years now, so I too must rely on public transportation to get to the grocery store or fabric shop or thrift shops. You had so many inviting and charming shops to visit. My favorite of all those that you visited is the Peter Rabbit shop. I love Beatrix Potter's illustrations as well, and have always loved Peter Rabbit. I think you saw that I have my own sweet house rabbit, and he is the sweetest and most gentle companion for me. I love what you purchased too - who could resist! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. Hugs!
Thanks, Shari! I am so glad that you enjoyed coming on this little trip with us! We do have a pretty good public transport system here and the added bonus for my mom is that she gets free bus travel. We loved the shops that we came across and I think my favourite was definitely the Peter Rabbit shop! I love seeing photos of your gorgeous rabbit. Hugs from Durham! xx
First of all, your Mum looks brilliant for her years. The Lake District is always delightful to visit and I’ve been many times. That little book is right up your alley Helen……very similar to your works.
Thank you, Marion - and my mum says thank you, too! Yes, that little Peter Rabbit book is written in exactly the style that I enjoying writing myself! xx
Hi Helen, thank you so much for taking me through the countryside where I will probably never go myself. Really appreciated it. I love the way you’ve made your campervan so comfortable for you to sleep in a good night. Sleep is so important. Loving all the hand work that you’ve done and the new wall that you purchased, God bless darling lots of love from beautiful Ballarat😘💕🙏
Aww Helen I so enjoyed this. Reminded me too , of holidays when we were young at the Lake District. What a lovely Mum you have , she looked so happy. Thank you.💕
Thank you, Jane! Glad to remind you of some happy days spent in the Lake District. My mom was certainly very happy to be away on holiday, in a place that she loves! xx
Morning Helen. Lovely to spend some time with you both. Your mum reminds me very much of my own, she is also 86 and very independent. Keswick and surrounding area is a place we love . The mention of the youth hostel made me smile. Many happy times spent there, back in the day. Waterproof coats go hand in hand with a trip to the lakes. Really enjoyed the vlog, thankyou. Have a lovely week. Xx🌷🌻
Thank you, Angela - I'm very happy to take you along to places that you know so well! I was once a frequent user of Youth Hostels, too. Yes, good waterproofs are an essential part of a Lake District visit! Take care and have a lovely week xx
I just wanted to say a big thank you for making this video. I found you on TH-cam while searching for information regarding travel to the Lakes District, specifically Keswick. My husband and I made our plans with a lot of help from your train and bus travels in this video. We spent a week in Keswick as well as some time in Grasmere, all by public transportation. It’s very daunting to fly overseas, then rely on trains and buses to get to our destination, luckily train strikes held off for us! I’ve also enjoyed many of your campervan journeys as well! Thank you for sharing your videos 😊
Thank you, Jan - and I'm very happy that this particular video was helpful to you and I'm glad that your travel plans went smoothly! Public transport can be challenging at times (especially in unfamiliar places!) but excellent when things go to plan.
What a wonderful podcast, you and your mum having a lovely break in the Lake District. I watched while we stayed at Coniston in a cottage we visit, so it was extra special. Your mum is amazing what a gorgeous lady I can see where you get your kind and gentle nature from. The visit to the gingerbread shop was a delight too, we didn't get to go this time so it was lovely to see you both enjoy your time there. Thanks for introducing us to your mum I hope we get to see her again soon. Best wishes......🥰
Thank you, Tracy - how lovely that you have recently been enjoying the Lake District, too! I'm glad you got the chance to 'meet' my mum - we really did have a super time and the weather didn't really stop us from enjoying ourselves! Take care xx
Ohhh Helen! Now I know where you get your sweetness. So nice to meet your Mum, a very spry lady for being 86, I’m 82 and would have a hard time keeping up with her- ❤Thank you for taking us on your journey and I loved the Peter Rabbit shop . Would love a taste of the gingerbread. Heavy rain here in Maine (US) and my raincoat isn’t nearly as waterproof as yours looks.
Thank you, Priscilla - and my mom says thank you, too, for your kind words! We are very happy to have shared our trip with you. Ah yes, a good waterproof is essential in the Lake District! xx
Good morning Helen 🙂 … such a lovely holiday with your mum! Thank you for sharing your vacation in the Lake District. I so much enjoyed going along with you in this video… it’s such a beautiful area and the houses and shops are so cosy. Your Mum looks really happy, I can imagine that she has been looking forward very much to go and visit one of her favourite places, after all this time. These are definitely precious days for you and your Mum together 🥰 Have a lovely week and see you soon!
Thank you, Marjam - I'm so happy that I could take you along on this trip to such a lovely area. My mum was so happy to be visiting her favourite places and it really was a special to spend this time together! Take care.
This is one of my most favorite videos yet. I’ll probably never get to see the places you showed me today. I loved seeing each place. I loved hearing about the little details of your trip, restaurants and menu items, shops and museums. I’m SO COMPLETELY IMPRESSED that your mother planned all the transportation and still wants to get out and travel and see the sights. That’s so inspiring to me! I’m such a homebody. I need to be more like the two of you! Thanks again! Have a great day! ❤
Thank you, Margaret - I'm so glad that you enjoyed travelling along with us! My mom asked me to thank you, too. She just loves working her way through bus timetables and routes, to work out how to get to places! Take care xx
Thanks for taking along! Wow, your mom gets along really well for being 87! How special to be able to take a trip with her every year. And the journey is a part of the fun, isn't it. 🤗 It looks like the lake district has a little something for everyone. I don't think I would be able to have as much restraint as you did at the herd shop, or the chocolate shop,or the Beatrice Potter shop. And Lakeland looked fabulous! 😍 And I probably would have bought pencils at the museum! Too bad about the weather, but looked like you took advantage of the beautiful location as much as you could. The lithophone, I would imagine, was not an easy instrument to take on tour. Must be pretty heavy! What was your favorite memory from this trip? Ok, now I think I need to find a cheese soufle😋. I wonder if I could make it🤔. Oh, and gingerbread. .yum. This was fun to see. Do you remember reading the Peter rabbit stories as a child? I do. And we had the stories for our son too. See you soon🤗. Take care.
Thank you, Karen. Yes, the Lake District definitely has something to offer everyone. I did have to be very self-disciplined in all those lovely shops! I had to keep reminding myself that whatever I bought would have to be carried home on the bus... It's hard to choose a favourite memory from the trip... that cheese souffle was particularly good, I loved the Peter Rabbit shop (happy childhood memories!) and I was amazed at the lithophone - I can't imagine the difficulties in transporting from place to place! Take care xx
What a wonderful video this is! As one who loves to travel, enjoyed long walks and hikes in my younger years, and now has serious mobility issues traveling with you and your mother was an absolute delight! Thank you so very much for taking us along. Salam wa sa’aadah
Thanks, Linda - I'm so glad you enjoyed coming along with us! I love the way that TH-cam allows us to connect with places that we would otherwise never see. Take care xx
A most enjoyable visit to the Lakes district Helen. I loved seeing what you bought especially that sweet Peter Rabbit poetry book. You mother is such a lovely happy lady and very active for her age. She has a most engaging smile. Love from nz💖
Thank you, Michelle - it really was a special time that we had together! No, I don't know how I resisted buying a new tin of coloured pencils either!!! xxx

Yes, I enjoyed traveling with you and your mother very much! Rain and all! It brings back memories of traveling with my mother. To see how easily you are able to travel about by public transportation gives me a bit of courage to travel to England. I do drive but would feel very uneasy on unknown roads, especially when having to drive on the opposite side of the road. Your trip to Lancashire was also delightful!
Thank you, Alison, for joining us! The buses in the Lake District are particularly good, which helps to reduce car traffic in this beautiful area. I'm glad you enjoyed the Lancashire trip, too! xx
I stayed in the Lake District several years ago and it was lovley to be reminded of some of the places we visited. I want to go again now to look around all the places we missed. I love a good museum, park and shop. Beautiful video as always. Thank you, Helen. Xxx
Thank you, Anita - I'm glad to be able to remind you of these lovely places - the Lake District certainly has a lot to offer as a holiday destination! xx
Hi Helen time with your mum is so special. Thank you for sharing Her with us. Really love this one seeing how the public transport works over just beautiful.! I do love the way that you don’t let the weather get you down. That’s my new motto this year every day is a beautiful day. I love the Peter rabbit Christmas ornaments so cute I’ve got a softness for rabbits. Lots of love from beautiful Ballarat darling God bless.😘💕🙏

Well done to the two of you, and no public toilets! You both looked so happy to be away even though you had awful weather. Great memories to look back on. Your well chosen purchases will be a lovely reminder. xx
I'm very impressed at your efforts to go by public transport! Shame about the weather but that's what makes the Lakes so green and pleasant!! That gingerbread would not have arrived home unopened with me!!
Thanks Helen I really enjoyed seeing your Holiday in the Lake District it’s a place I would love to visit I’m not sure if I will get there so it was lovely to come along with you and your Mum😊❤
Helen this was wonderful The Beautiful Lake District and I have tasted that Gingerbread lol oh my goodness it's the nicest gingerbread my neighbour brought me some from her holiday many years ago. Your mum is lovely your braver people than me getting a bus everywhere, it is a beautiful place thank you so much. I'm knitting Peter Rabbit and Mrs Rabbit lol I was out collecting more yarn today but the shop looked gorgeous Take care xx
Thank you, Michelle. Great that you are familiar with the taste of Grasmere gingerbread - it's delicious, isn't it? My mum does an amazing job of getting around by bus! How lovely to be knitting a Peter Rabbit and Mrs Rabbit - I really loved that Peter Rabbit shop and had to be very restrained with my spending!!! xx
Thank you for taking us to the lakes my most favourites place in the world it is very interest to see were other people go to when visting a place that you love so much may have to try the bus to the lakes holiday
Thank you, Danny - I'm very glad that I could take you along to your favourite area! The Lake District bus services are excellent and it's easy to get to all sorts of places.
Thanks for a lovely podcast, Helen. Your Mum is very cheerful and sprightly for her age. Glad you both had a good time. We love the Lake District and have done some walks in and around the fells. I think the nicest village is Grasmere. Have you ever been to Hawkshead? We were there once and it is very interesting. x
Thank you, Pamela - my mum doesn't do too badly when we're out and about! I do love Grasmere, too. It's a long time since I visited Hawkshead and would love to go back. x
My sister and I had a tin of coloured pencils from the Lake District when we were little that Mum had bought for us when she and Dad went on holiday. We had many Holm Oaks growing in the part of Somerset when we lived there. I think they are native to Spain.
How lovely to have this early memory of your coloured pencils! I will be on the lookout for more Holm oaks - maybe there are fewer of them in the north of England, especially if they originate in Spain! x
Well wasn’t that delightful. Your mum looked well and happy. I’m glad you got a little time on your own, we love our Mum’s but …. :). I did smile when you went to the pencil museum - I doubt many would have found that a place to go but you always make things very interesting. I loved all the shops, the quaintness - it’s unlikely I’ll ever visit the Lake District so I lived vicariously through you. I too, like your mum, would have needed the loo after 2 hours sat on a bus! Disgraceful that it was closed. Your mum has mobility issues like me and to have to walk as far as she did, and back, well - I would have been quite grumbly and 🥵. I really enjoy your trips, and all that you share. The gingerbread looks nothing like gingerbread that I know but nevertheless delicious. 🤗
We really had a lovely trip - and yes, a little time alone is always good! We were so disgruntled about the toilet situation at Carlisle bus station! And the Grasmere gingerbread is a very unique kind of gingerbread and very delicious. x
I was recently visiting family in West Sussex and went on a bus for the first time in forever! Do you have the free bus pass? Our friends do and tried to persuade us to get them in time for our visit but I resisted as it didn't seem right as although we are citizens we are not residents at the moment! Our short hop on the bus of about 4 miles cost 4 pounds, our friends were free! Loved seeing Keswick and Windermere as it's one of my favourite areas to visit. I re-read Winter Holiday by Arthur Ransome during my stay. my Mother in Law (89) gave me her copy from the la te 1940s a couple of years ago and I'd been unable to make room for it in my luggage that year! Jane
Thank you, Jane. My mum's bus travel was free but mine wasn't... but it wasn't too expensive - £11.50 to get all the way from Newcastle to Keswick. Great to know that the area is a favourite of yours, too! I love Arthur Ransome's stories although I haven't read Winter Holiday - how lovely to read a copy from the 1940s! xx

And the Grasmere gingerbread is a very unique kind of gingerbread and very delicious. x
@@mousiemakespod Thank you for all the personal replies. It must take you hours, away from all the cleaning 🤣🥰
I love Arthur Ransome's stories although I haven't read Winter Holiday - how lovely to read a copy from the 1940s! xx
