Turns out I3- or |5- forms a complex with starch causing this colour:www.chemistryviews.org/details/education/10128441/Why_Does_Iodine_Turn_Starch_Blue.html
Hi, thank you for the video. I want to perform this reaction as a demonstration for my kids. I saw that in some procedures vitex starch was added to solution 2 (malonic acid, MnSO4). Is it required (since starch is the indicator for iodine), and is it crucial to use vitex starch or can standard starch be used (is it a solubility issue?). Thanks.
hello thank you for the video. I performed this in our school club. But i don't know why these reactions happen. I tried to find information on internet, but i couldn't get any useful information. could you explain?? anyone okay.. help me+pleas understand my poor english.. thank you
1-Please hold the pin properly !! 2-change this cheep nails color!! 3-I don't know why does MIT changes from full courses Videos to the clips from lectures?? 4- thanks for this illusive type of reactions, If I saw this before when I was in the high school, I would probably specialized in Chemistry !!!!
Why does this courseware have a jazzy intro theme riffed off a track in the 1986 Commodore 64 game, Ark Pandora? downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/ark-pandora-commodore-64/03_In-Game%2520BGM%2520%25232.mp3 Ahh well, I dig it.
It's pen, and she writes more legibly than I do so whatever works. There is no correct way to hold a writing implement AFAIK The nail color has, thus far, been rotating colors through each video and coordinated with the content of the video in some manner. since I'm a dumb male, I cannot attest to the cheapness of the polish. They probably look at the viewing metrics for their long videos and see a sharp drop off at the 4 minute mark because everyone on youtube has AD oh look a squirrel
This represents my mood swings.

walter is really quite the genius it seems
i'm wondering about 2:59 a point of reaction on chemical formula. like 6. IO2 on the point
Oh yeah now that you've pointed it out even I have this doubt.
Nice video :) I Have a question about the colors: Isnt it the reaction I- + I2 --> I3- that produces the yellow color?
I was thinking the sam thing. I2 with starch turns blue, the I3- is yellow.

Where can i get all the sub-reactions?

My pee does the same thing if I drink too much.
Where did the starch come from?
If you were to seal this off, wouldn't this theoretically run forever?
no because at each cycle the active ingredients get "used up" as the amount of the final compound increases.
Press 3 for the cool part

Same with me
Como se hace un cromado al agua
Isn't this in the same family as the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction?
Yes, basically they are the same. The only difference is that in Belusov Zhabktinsky reaction bromine is involved instead of iodine.
this is witchcraft,THE STAKE!!!!
Nice video. Thanks for the later explanation

can you give me the experiment steps in details , i did it but it didn't work out

what is the reason for the vortex in the liquid?
It is caused by a stir bar which is stirring the solution to keep it mixing.

Damn, 8 years ago... you still using the same account?
If only my science teacher did this lol!
I do not want to know the 19 - 20 steps involved... lolx...
