I was born in 1982, and I was the target demographic for the TV show and toys. On my 7th birthday, in fact, my dad surprised me with a 3ft plush Leonardo doll. That morning, before heading off to school/work, I had been watching the show while he showered, then he told me to shower quickly so I wouldn’t miss the end of the episode. I did, and when I came out of the bathroom, Leo was sitting in my chair in front of the TV. I had Leonardo in my collection of stuffed toys for years and years after that.

I'm gonna say this: I was a 9 year old, NYC kid, sick at home during the school year in october of 1987 when the first five episodes of the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES cartoon first aired. It was around 8 or 9 in the morning on a tuesday, when I just happened to turn on the tv, and saw the intro to this insane looking show with green humanoid turtles dressed like ninja. The theme song was late 1980s perfection. I don't know if I was high off the cold medication or what, but I was immediately hooked. It was the most refreshing, and amazing thing my child self had seen up to that point in his life. This was a year before the show would be properly introduced to the mainstream and become pop culture history, as very few kids, if any, knew of the Turtles. I tried telling my classmates the next week when I went back to school about this show, but describing it couldn't do it justice. Remember, I was a 9 year old at the time, and a year felt like 5 years in kid time, so when autumn of 1988 rolled around, here was the commercial for the show premiering in like two weeks. I was like "HOLY SHIT!! I REMEMBER THIS SHOW!!!", that's literally what I said to myself. Then when the show premiered we saw the commercial for the original action figures, and I almost blew a fucking head gasket. The original Leonardo action figure was my very first Ninja Turtle merchandise ever, and I would go on to have alot of fucking TMNT toys in my childhood. Don't get me started on the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES live action film from 1990. That shit blew my fucking mind. The TMNT was the last major toy craze of my childhood, and undoubtedly the most impactful one of my life, as it lasted the longest, and was the most successful of that era. I still love the turtles, and buy turtle figures to this day.
Same here! Leonardo's still No.1!! My whole Home Office is full of framed 90s Movie Posters and the NECA TURTLES 😁 even my son is in Love with them and wants to play with it! 🤘🏼🤩
Björn Jensen Truly the best time. And best action figures but that intro tv series got me hooked. My dad swore his generation had the best childhood in the 60s. Lol nah
Thank you for this. There were 2 rich brothers that lived on my street in the early 90s. All the kids would flock to their garage after school because they had every TMNT toy. EVERY TOY... their dad prided himself on collecting each tmnt toy made. It was a garage full of plastic wonderful, and I forgot about it till I read your comment. Thank you again.
Everyone always forgets the IDW comic, which is honestly my favorite version. My first exposure was the original 80s cartoon, which I loved immensely. Then the live action movies (just the first two though) and then the 2003 cartoon. I saw the CG movie and kind of called it quits after that, until the IDW comic.
Sadly, my very initial exposure to the incredibly insanedom of the critically popular TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES craze was something of a hazy blur to recall; other than the unmistakable fact that me and my 2 brothers used to "watch it" virtually every Sunday morning like around 10a on the old-school WATL 36 channel. At which point, the series, for us, was already like in ankle-deep of season 2, specifically with the "Return of the Shredder", "It Came From Beneath the Sewers" & "The Case of the Killer Pizzas", episodes, respectfully. Remembered thinking how we, as a couple of unimpressed 11 & 10 y/o's were so deftly quiet, (if not so painfully shy), to fully react to what would eventually amount to the unstoppable juggernaut it was well on its way of becoming. One would like say that maybe we all were just secret closet fans with these characters, the show as a whole, but were openly ashamed to admit it. Yeah, I know, how sad were we? What eventually occurred, overtime, was that when the show finally hit the weekday format, most notably airing in the comfy 5 o'clock time slot, that's when we, personally, felt that the show had finally hit its stride! What with such memorable episodes, like: "Splinter No More", "Turtles on Trial" "Attack of the 50-Foot Irma", "The Old Switcheroo" & more! But perhaps what was THE MOST MEMORABLE EPISODES to have ever blown our collective minds, for me and my brothers, were those epic episodes that we were all NEVER privy to in its entire existence. Preferably the very 1st 5 episodes what started the show's eponymous hype since its initial beginning... "TURTLE TRACKS"-"SHREDDER AND SPLINTERED." That, for us, was, arguably, like THE BEST EVER, OUT-OF-THE-LOOP EXPERIENCE / HAPPY ACCIDENT for us that we could have ever been exposed to; because, in a lot of ways, it helped make for an incredibly, whole new FRESH SERIES to watch all over again, and the rest, as they say, is HEROES IN A HALF SHELL, history! P.S., although one of my personal favorite colors has always been red, MICHELANGELO was, by far, my personal favorite NINJA TURTLE!!!
I was first introduced to the TMNT from the original indie comics which were straight up legit. Eastman & Laird didn't pull any punches with their stories, the turtles were actual ninjas (meaning they killed people) and behaved more or less like real teenagers. More than just the art, the writing was also quite good. Even when things got really weird in space (yes, space) the story was still compelling enough to keep things exciting. From a marketing standpoint I understand turning TMNT into a kids property, but I will always remember them for that more realistic initial run.
As a child of the 80's, I was a huge TMNT fan as a kid. But it was truly the oft-forgotten 2003 animated series that made me a fan for life. Great video, guys!
Rob Pollock 03 TMNT was amazing. They really stayed close to the grit of the Mirage years but with a good dose of light-hearted moments of the Free Wolf series.
I watched the 03 series every Saturday as a child, and then rediscovered all of the episodes on TH-cam. After rewatching the whole series, it still remains one of my favorite cartoons ever, alongside teen titans and naruto.
I remember one Saturday morning, doing my usual wake and bake, and seeing the intro for a new Turtles cartoon. I said what the hell, ain't nothing else on right now! After that amazing intro, they launched into the episode and I was hooked! I hadn't had any interest in Turtles since I was a kid and there I was watching a new cartoon. Every episode was better than the last and, much like you, I became a fan all over again. I stuck in until the series took them to the future and I bowed out as the series had went to garbage at that point. I did love the Turtles Forever flick though.
My first exposure was the cartoon too, and then the Archie (?) comics, not knowing about the original comics until much much later. At that time my comic shop was a spinner rack at a drugstore down on main street here in BFE Arkansas so it's no surprise I missed it. That makes me sound super old....
Lol, Dan, you & me both! I too, had no idea the comics existed, when I began watching the original TMNT series, in 1987. That cartoon was my introduction. Followed by the action figures & the video games! Fun fact about the original series. James "Uncle Phil" Avery voiced Shredder.
Loved this!! Great work guys!!! You know, the weird thing about Next Mutation is they went out of their way to say that the Turtles aren't actual brothers, and Venus isn't their actual sister...simply so they could have moment of the Turtles hitting on her. Its, awkward. Heh. Keep up the awesome content!!
PIXEL DAN!!!! I follow your channel, man. Do you remember Turtle Pies from Hostess? I emailed Hostess when the new Ninja Turtles live action movie came out to ask them if they would be re-releasing Turtle Pies. Unfortunately, they weren't. I wish they would. They were very delicious and came with a big sticker, typically a random one. I had a few that I put on my Dad's flight bag that he lugged around O'Hare airport (he's a pilot). Good times....I miss the Turtle days.
One of the reasons why MY CHILDHOOD WAS SOOO GREAT!!! Being a 80s kid was perfect timing!! The Turtles are ICONS. By the way RIP to my dude James Avery BKA Uncle Phil on the Fresh Prince.... Also Known As THE SHREDDER. I was so surprised when I found out he was him, that whole time!! LOL
The first Nickelodeon series may be my favorite version of TMNT. A seamless involvement of all the movies, series, comics, and even the most obscure action figures, and with the best character design that I've seen since Real Ghostbusters. "Pizza Face" became hive-mind psychic gobs of sentient pizza-y matter. "Tokka" became a giant lava kaiju from outer space, and it all fit. One of the Kraangs even made a Megan Fox joke.
In our generation if my memory serves me correct in the 80s and early 90s everyone was fans of the ninja turtles. I can't think of anything else that was like that.
That first live action film was everything I every wanted and more. It still holds up just as well today, which shows what a good job they did. Shame the same respect wasn't shown to the dumb sequels.
As someone born in 98, it was the 03 cartoon that had me hooked. Ended up going back and watching all the older stuff. Anytime a movie comes out i'm going to watch it lol
I was born in 77. Ihad never heard of the mirage comic as a kid but I distinctly remember one Saturday morning around the age of 10 with my older step-brother washing the dishes after breakfast and we heard that theme song come on the tv and were both like "What the hell is this???" Been a fan ever since.
All of us that has grown up with TMNT in the 90s, we’ve all been bombarded with the short quippy versions of the Eastman and Laird story. Maybe it’s now that I’m an adult, or maybe it’s your research and delivery of the history, but wow... What a great story! 🐾
I think I heard the name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was on the playground, and thought it sounded really stupid. Then I randomly caught an episode of the 1988 season on Saturday morning, and I was instantly hooked. I didn't know they originated in comics until a couple years on. I also remember having my dad buy me my first TMNT figure (Leonardo) at some obscure department store shortly before they took over the shelves of all toy/retail stores.
As much as people hate on the third live action movie of the 90s , it's still one of my favourites. I was just a little kid and aside from the turtles, I was also obsessed with samurai films. To me it was a perfect mix of the two. Not to mention the wicked looking series of action figures released around that time that incorporated characters that weren't even in the film. Its goofy and at times just plain stupid, but I still love it. The scenes with Casey teaching the displaced samurai how to play hockey was incredible.
Ninja Turtles was a big part of my childhood I had all the action figures and I love the movies I saw the first one and movie theaters in 1990 with my family when I was a little boy
I love Ninja Turtles!! It is one of those rare franchises that, for me at least, I can accept different iterations easily. I haven’t loved all them, but I understand that they keep the franchise fresh. I loved the TV show and toys and bought every issue of the Archie comic I could get my grubby little hands on. I was pleasantly surprised about the original comics. A kid who was new at school had a 4th printing (I think) of issue 1, which made him my new best friend. Keep up the great work, sir!
My friends and I used to talk about what printing everyone was able to acquire. I think 4th printing of Issue 1 was the earliest anyone was able to purchase. I never had any of the actual issues. Just picked up the trades years later.
I started reading the comics when issue #3 came out because the guy at the comic book store recommended it to me. Halloween of 1985 I made myself a TMNT costume out of paper mache, and no one knew what I was.
The 2003 series introduced me into the TMNT franchise. But then my mom had a handful of the 80's cartoon episodes so I watched those afterwards. Brings back memories.
I've this episode a lot. But never commented. My first exposure to the tmnt was the toy line then the first movie. Been expanding my tmnt and tf collection lately because of TH-camrs like you. Thank you toy galaxy
I remember watching Tmnt when I was a kid and they have interesting history. They started off has dark and serious in the comics then goofy and light in the cartoons.
I just picked up the the complete series of tmnt in dvd for 50 bucks at Walmart. All of my kids and I binged watched it over a weekend. I had so many tmnt turtles and the blimp. I see the OG turtles in a comic book store in San Antonio and tell my son that I use to have this stuff. I wished I kept this stuff this is why I watch your channel ...to learn history of cartoons and toys plus relive my child hood. You are awesome my friend .
The TMNT Power Rangers crossovers don't end there. Based on the 2019 crossover comic, the new Hasbro Lightning Collection action figure line has revealed a Green Ranger Shredder will be coming out later this year.
I remember getting my very first TMNT action figure in a gift exchange back when I was in preschool, which was a figure the original Raphael (albeit the one with a hard plastic head instead of a soft squishy head). :D
Should have mentioned more about the 2003 series and how it was updated a few times. Some mention of the Archie Comics, Dreamwave and Eastman’s reinvolvement in IDW. Also, the video games were huge.
this was my favorite cartoon to watch as a kid. I use to come home and every afternoon at 3 PM from monday to Friday, a TV show called "The DJ Cat show" aired on Sky one. it showed cartoons like TMNT and Inspector gadget and such, it was really fun. I actually own every episode of this cartoon. I think cartoons that kids watch today are so silly, they are badly drawn compared to the cartoons from the 80's and early 90's. sure, there were some coloring errors in the cartoon, sometimes Donatello had a red mask, that happened a few times that they would have the wrong color on their masks or the wrong voice, but hey, it was the 80's, still better than today. I owned so many of the toys, this and GJ Joe, we called the "Action force" men, don't know why GI Joe was called that. but anyways, I owned a lot. I think I still have them on a box, unless I gave it away, I might have.
Great work. But I deffinetly missed that something is said about the 2011 IDW Cmic re-launched including Kevin Eastman that is very succesfull and at this point the longest running TMNT Comic-run ever!
again, LOOOOVE that RPG, love those original comics( so much that I keep buying it in any form it comes out.... and i should stop really) that rpg is amazing, that story is amazing, unfortunately i always felt it was lightning in a bottle, even tho i am 40, i never kliked those cartoons, and yes i did like the movie cause i was young enough to want it, but it wasn't as good as those first few issues.
sixto reynoso I totally agree. The original comics and the rpg where awesome and so cool! Then when the cartoon came it quickly went downhill from all that cool that came before
agreed, the Archie comic run used to make me angry LOL but it did give enough life to the characters that i think brought a big light to the original material thus allowing for more nicer reprints of the comics with the extra stuff and stuff like the amazing NECA figures. necessary evil?
I read that the TV guy that approached them was from Harmony Gold "owners?" of RoboTech and that Palladium games helped introduce them after Palladium wanted to get the RoboTech license, and naturally showed off the other games they had made
Christopher Vogler make sense. I played them both, likes TMNT better so I would apply weapons and some vehicles from one to the other. You guys are making me want to pull that out and start a campaign lol
Some of my early turtles memories revolve around the video games! the Arcade cabinet and nes games, playing with my brother Mike( guess who he always picked). COWABUNGA!!!
Excellent work. I really enjoyed this. I remember not being able to find any of the toys, and happened upon them in an out of the way toy store. My Nephew slept that night with one in each hand! The memory still makes me smile!
Never get tired of hearing this story, I’m with Dan, first the cartoon then I found out about the comic. Great video! Love it when you do this segment 👍🏽✌🏽
Awesome video. I love the Turtles. Definitely my favorite pop culture nostalgia driven stacks of comics in my office tons of money spent during my childhood icons of all time.
Two things I learned: A Ninja Turtles tabletop game existed, and the Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers did a crossover. That's awesome. I'm still holding out hope that they'll do a Ninja Turtles RPG. Turn-based combat would be great, but I would settle for one in the vein of X-Men Legends or Tales of.
Fellas, strong work as always. Appreciate you bringing the nostalgia back. I can tell a lot of time and effort goes into every episode. Keep up the good work. Not unnoticed.
My first introduction to the TMNT was actually a coincidence. I was gonna buy a Spongebob game for my Gameboy Advance but I saw the TMNT 2003 game. Needless to say, I was hooked on the TMNT after that and I've been a fan ever since.
The first cartoon series for sure, but my earliest memory is in fact going to Papa Aldo's on my birthday and having to choose between Donatello and Leatherhead as a gift give away or something. I picked Donatello and he was the start to my meager collection of action figures growing up. I still have him though the 'D' on his belt is a bit warn and mom threw away the weapons long time ago.
I’ve seen most of this channel’s videos about 80’s dumb toy cartoons. Here in Brazil we never had any of these cool toys and yet they were massive hits. I think this demostrate how those shows like Turtles, He-Man, Power Rangers stood on their own and were way more than just toy commercials

I'm so happy I never skip ads for this channel. I watch every video, still. I've been on the down low on comments but this is amazing. I love you guys. Good work.
Hey man, love your work Dan. I just wanted to point out the relationship to the TMNT names. Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo all created statues of David. Raphael on the other had created a historical study of Michelangelo's David. I wonder if this is a coincidence.
I grew up with the early/mid 2000s Turtles show(s). I loved the series where they ended up in the future and met April and Casey's son. If I remember correctly it was called TMNT Fast forward. I also watched a lot of the original cartoon on VHS. My favorite Turtle was Leo but I've kinda grown to like Donatello more.
Awesome show man.. wow. Thanks! First exposure was the book-like black & white tpbs.. issue #3 I think. From there I bought more & eventually a few of the toys. To this day though the first movie is one of my overall retro favs. :)
Glad to see Frank Miller's excellent Ronin books getting acknowledged here as the influence on the early turtles' visual style and storytelling is abundantly clear, which to me is a very good thing indeed.
I was hooked on the TMNT cartoon as a kid. I had figures of all the core characters including multiple foot soldiers, the party wagon, some cheapskates as well as a complete technodrome. I bought all the Archie published comics from the 7-11 nearby my house and then when the popularity of the TMNT started waning and I was getting older I discovered the original Mirage comics and the Palladium RPG and that kept me going knowing that there were more mature stories and TMNT wasn't just kids stuff. Thankfully that OG Mirage stuff helped me ignore the atrocities that were the Next Mutation, 3rd movie and Coming Out of Their Shells. I had a direct subscription to the Mirage TMNT comic all they way to it's final issue. I really enjoyed the 2003 reboot for it's faithfulness to the original Mirage comic and followed that all the way until the 2012 reboot and really enjoyed that one too. The new one... eh, I'm not too sure about it but I thought that about the 2012 reboot until it proved me wrong. We'll see when the show actually airs.
That was totally radical! The cartoon was what began the love affair. Then those toys. Turtles toys were those odd little mutants that continued my interests in toys when I was a teenager. Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers took me up to my preteens. Then Marvel toys and comics ruled my 90s. Turtles comics I didn’t discover till way down the road. Wish I had one of those books from 80s.
My first exposure to the Turtles was the 1987 cartoon as well when I was 6 or 7. Initially I wasn’t hooked but eventually it grew on me to the point where I was a Ninja Turtles freak. I watched and recorded pretty much every episode of the cartoon, I had the action figures, bedsheets, video games, and pizza became my favorite food because of the Turtles. Leonardo was my favorite because he was the leader, he wore blue my favorite color, and he had my favorite ninja weapon the Katana. I didn’t discover the comics until later and they were the Archie comics not the original ones by Eastman and Laird which I eventually did discover.
I started laughing so much at the pop-up appearance "I like Turtles" kid that I had to pause the video. This was one of the better history videos. Good job TG team.
Aww, yeah, NoHo!!! That town has some great bars! Also, my high school DARE officer frequented Eastman and Laird's comic shop. He became decent friends with them.
This action franchise is remarkable. They started off as a dark and gritty comic, then they became a Saturday Morning Cartoon, then they were Jim Henson Muppets, an action-packed and violent cartoon, a series of intense idw comics, a random cg movie, a Nickelodeon Mascot, a Michael Bay film, and now they're doin stuff with DC. There will always be Marvel & DC fans, but Tmnt is an epic masterpiece of its own, and will always stand as one of the greatest creations of all time.
Awesome history. I first saw the original cartoon - censored for the UK, where 'Ninja' became 'Hero' and nunchuks were not allowed to be shown (stabby swords were fine).
@@SecretGalaxyTV Thatcherism at it's finest. Thing is, I'd also seen the title "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and was confused as hell as to what the difference was with "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles", so yeah, censoring the word "ninja" really didn't seem to work that well.
Now that a new game has been revealed which is similar/in the same continuity as the first NES/SNES/GEN games, I really wish they would create a new cartoon based on the original TMNT cartoon continuity and style. Do the same for a new movie in the continuity and style of the first three movies.
My first encounter with the turtles was a commercial for the original 87 miniseries airing. My tiny child brain saw way more than 4 turtles, and I remember them eating pizza. I also remember thinking my mom wouldn’t let me watch it, although she never said that. It wasn’t until I saw Michelangelo hanging from a peg at toys r us that it really clicked with me.
the very height of ninja turtles coolness is when Vanilla Ice was rapping "go ninja, go ninja, Go!!!! With all the turtles hip hop dancing......this was a turning point in my life and I became awesome at everything I ever did after that.
Bodacious work, dude! Man, I was absolutely obsessed with TMNT as a kid. It went beyond obsessively watching the cartoon, the toys, the comics, the video games. I demanded - and got - a pet turtle & made my mom make me pizza (because it wasn't even a thing where I lived, not at the time, we didn't have any pizza place to go to until a few years later).
Yeah, you brought back a lot of crazy memories :) I'm new to your channel but I'm really enjoying it immensely - not just for the stories about the cartoons I grew up on themselves. You're fun to listen to.
Totally the cartoon, everyone I knew was obsessed with them! Then of all people my mother and I bonded big over the first movie, she really got into the themes and loved the characters. Thanks Mom!
Love the Turtles! Great history video - loved the inclusion of the old commercial. For me, I remember meeting the 87 Turtles at the same time as the 1990 film. Good times!
I was born in 1982, and I was the target demographic for the TV show and toys. On my 7th birthday, in fact, my dad surprised me with a 3ft plush Leonardo doll. My first exposure was the cartoon too, and then the Archie (?) comics, not knowing about the original comics until much much later. At that time my comic shop was a spinner rack at a drugstore down on main street here in BFE Arkansas so it's no surprise I missed it. That makes me sound super old....
Squeaky spinner racks are pure nostalgia.
Lol, Dan, you & me both! I too, had no idea the comics existed, when I began watching the original TMNT series, in 1987. That cartoon was my introduction. Followed by the action figures & the video games! Fun fact about the original series. James "Uncle Phil" Avery voiced Shredder.
The "Coming Out of Their Shells" album is fantastic! You take that back!
Ew.
That is just nasty to picture. Then Luke was kissed in the mouth my Princess Leia...
Ok
dan fuck off those numbers we all know comics dont sell like they did in the 80s spiderman back in the 80s probably sold 250 k a month
I never knew about the Daredevil influence. Great video. Also spotted Raph doing the bike slide straight out of Akira at 9:28.
In our generation if my memory serves me correct in the 80s and early 90s everyone was fans of the ninja turtles. I can't think of anything else that was like that.
*cough x-men *cough ducktales
biker mice
gi joe

thunder cats
@Telepathy did they have their own action figure series? I think i have one somewhere😆
@@GenOner xmen aired in the 90s not the 80s
To this day I still recall the scene in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they were babies and said, "pizza". What a fun franchise.
Radical radical radical radical
I still have my VHS copy.
That first live action film was everything I every wanted and more. It still holds up just as well today, which shows what a good job they did. Shame the same respect wasn't shown to the dumb sequels.
Its truly does hold up. If nothing else the story was really good, but the suits were amazing and the fight scenes were engaging. A rarity indeed
After watching this history relieving the Turtles from 80s til now...I will always love this franchise!
Another fantastic video. Grew up watching ninja turtles on TV, takes me back
As someone born in 98, it was the 03 cartoon that had me hooked. Ended up going back and watching all the older stuff. Anytime a movie comes out i'm going to watch it lol
Wow. The TMNT is a great example of "protect your ideas and properties".
Awesone video. I enjoyed every bit of it.
I was born in 77. Ihad never heard of the mirage comic as a kid but I distinctly remember one Saturday morning around the age of 10 with my older step-brother washing the dishes after breakfast and we heard that theme song come on the tv and were both like "What the hell is this???"
Been a fan ever since.
You don't do them often but when you do I'm always excited. TMNT is my all time favorite of these 80's pop culture phenomena.
Smashed that like button for mentioning Palladium Books
Any chance of a Toxic Crusaders history video? Would be AWESOME!! :D
At some point, yes.
@@SecretGalaxyTV don't forget to mention that it started off as a porn
@@SecretGalaxyTV have you reached that point 👀
Think they did that one already, brought back memories of the Toxic Crusaders.
The 2012 TMNT series is surprisingly good. I was sad it ended. It had a bit of everything in it from all the different turtle properties.
I loved it.
Man my first love will always be the original 87 show because that's what I grew up with, but I like the 2012 series and the 2003 series
it was the best so far . it even beats the 2003 series
That cartoon was amazing
Also, the current IDW comics run is also amazing
I started reading the comics when issue #3 came out because the guy at the comic book store recommended it to me. Halloween of 1985 I made myself a TMNT costume out of paper mache, and no one knew what I was.
The 2003 series introduced me into the TMNT franchise. But then my mom had a handful of the 80's cartoon episodes so I watched those afterwards. Brings back memories.
I watched the 2003 series on Cartoon Network as a kid.
I've this episode a lot. But never commented. My first exposure to the tmnt was the toy line then the first movie. Been expanding my tmnt and tf collection lately because of TH-camrs like you. Thank you toy galaxy
I'm proud to say that the first ninja turtles movie is the first movie I have any memory of actually watching in the movie theater... soooo cool
I remember watching Tmnt when I was a kid and they have interesting history. They started off has dark and serious in the comics then goofy and light in the cartoons.
Love these videos. I learn a ton every time! Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
2003 Ninja Turtles was my first encounter with 2012 becoming my favorite!
This is the best Retro channel on youtube.
Period.
There is 0 contest with you guys. Bravo.
Fascinating. I've loved TMNT since I was four.
Ekements of funny-animals, Daredevil, and X-Men.. Combined into something special!
Lightning in a bottle, man.
this was my favorite cartoon to watch as a kid.
I was lucky enough to attend a "Coming Outta Their Shells" concert as a kid. It was awesome.
So glad I found your channel. 2020
Has been generally terrible, and binging your videos has made it slightly less so. Thanks!
I have been a TMNT fan my whole life. It started when I was a 7 year old kid and I still love it today
You guys are making me want to pull that out and start a campaign lol
go ninja go!
no ninja, no ninja, nooooooooooooo. lol
CoinOpTV Yo it's a green Machine gonna rock the town without being seen
CoinOpTV I made another funny 😛
Found your channel and I've watched quite a few episodes. Love what your doing It's the "behind the toys" for guys who grew up in the 80s
Thanks for mentioning the IDW series that kicks so much ass
Love the beginnings of this story. The original comics were amazing and so was the role play game.
Great work! This series gave me so many memories. I can hear the theme song and immediately get all the feels
At one point, I literally had every action figure and vehicle. Technodrome!
Good work.
Thank, Hjalte!
I went one of those live stage show musical thing. I even bought the soundtrack
Neca is now making figures of them
the 2012 Nickelodeon show was amazing.
the upcoming reboot looks like hot garbage.
My first encounter was the In Space crossover. Never been a big TMNT fan but I LOVED that episode as a kid.
Ah cool. Found them via MMPR. That's interesting.
Glad to see Frank Miller's excellent Ronin books getting acknowledged here as the influence on the early turtles' visual style and storytelling is abundantly clear, which to me is a very good thing indeed.
Wow!!! So indirectly Jack Kirby influenced the creation of the Turtles???!!!! That's awesome!!!!
There were two sequels to the first 1990 movie. That was certainly notable and worth inclusion.
Well, what did you think of the latest series?
This was the last toyline. I was ever into . I never knew that about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That was a freaking awesome video .
Cartoons and toys in the late 80s early 90s. My friend johanna had every toy at one point in our childhood and it was glorious!
It almost sounds like Raph said "Don't try this at home, bitch!". Lol.
I really wish this channel would do something like this to the Dino-Riders toy line. DR was the shit back in the day. Thanks 4the great vid :)
We will absolutely do Dino Riders at some point.
i never realized how tied in the origin of the turtles was to daredevil! so cool!!!
Turtles is my all time favorite characters thank you for the video!
You're welcome.
Great video guys ,I didn't know about the history of how they come to be though ,but I'm still waiting for the original dark version of them though.
I don't think you'll ever see it. It doesn't really exist anymore as far as the brand is concerned. Hasn't for a very long time.
@@SecretGalaxyTV don't be too sure of that... Seth Rogan is making a reboot and is a huge fan of the original comics
Such a weird thing. Such a weird, weird thing.
I love how in the thumbnail the turtles have different skin tones and they don't have that dull/cheesy 87 design!
That's a great story!
Yeah, you brought back a lot of crazy memories :) I'm new to your channel but I'm really enjoying it immensely - not just for the stories about the cartoons I grew up on themselves. You're fun to listen to.
I think the first thing I saw was the Palladium Books TMNT roleplaying game sometime around 1986.
Cartoon was my first exposure in the early 90s. Was part of my regularly Saturday morning routine with Power Rangers.
Totally the cartoon, everyone I knew was obsessed with them! Then of all people my mother and I bonded big over the first movie, she really got into the themes and loved the characters. Thanks Mom!
While nothing I didn't know I really like how you covered it, A+
Love the Turtles! Great history video - loved the inclusion of the old commercial. For me, I remember meeting the 87 Turtles at the same time as the 1990 film. Good times!
