Good to know that it was your own doing and not some underhanded ploy by the 4 heavenly kings of the JET-committee, covering the truth of the program 😅
@@rhine3 Thank you, I see. Give me a second... well I can only see becoming an ALT as a benefit only if I use it to learn japanese. Do people take these opportunities to just try to fish for something before they return to their home? It seems like an incredibly weak job where the only benefit is you learning the language.
To be fair the type of dude this happens too isn’t because of JET the same shit would happen if they went anywhere else for any other program. It’s just JET seems to attract these types of ppl a lot lol So if you ever did get in you might not have turned out like this at least I hope not haha
@@RaspBerryPies no for sure! The stuff in the video happens to anyone who comes here through any type of ALT program. I chose JET because that’s all I knew when I was in high school, and that’s what my teachers suggested. I simply wanted to go to Japan. Didn’t care about English. After getting rejected, I stayed in America for 3 more years and studied like crazy. Finally moved to Japan when I was around 24. I got accepted to a company through a job fair as an interpreter. Been here for about 10 years now.
@@colinDESU Oh wow thats amazing! Glad you did so much in 3 years and got a great job in something you like to do! I image being an ALT would suck unless you’re super into teaching lol
@@RaspBerryPies Ya only reason I'm going to be applying for Japanese ALT programs after grad school is because teaching is what I wanted to do long before I wanted to go to Japan. Seeing people that very clearly aren't into education trying to teach because "its all you can do in my field" always makes me feel bad for the students that have to try and learn with them.
I love his American-trying-to-speak-Japanese accent! But even when he's speaking it you can see his basically perfect Japanese accent and rhythm coming through. I suspect it takes effort from him to speak awkwardly.
I was surprised to learn that the JET Programme's salary is around 3.3 million yen (approximately $22,000), which seems quite low. For young people coming to Japan from countries with higher wages, wouldn’t this salary be unattractive? Or is it manageable for a simple lifestyle, where they just buy daily necessities in Japan, which has relatively low living costs, rather than focusing on saving money?
This stuff is LMFAO so bad!! Oh man you nailed the massive dork back home then becomes the Nova or Jet manager perfectly hahaa From my one year teaching at Nova there was enough material to write a 10 part Netflix Series lolz Im actually not kidding
Poor Thomas, I hope he gets that melon bread... (Also I just saw that apparently パン comes from 'pão', although I'm not sure 'cause' I saw it on Wikipedia, so I'm kinda happy that this cool food has a word that has its origins in Portuguese, my native language!) And that wonder bread part reminded me of a meme kinda lol
there's actually a number of portuguese loan words, many which have been around for a long time! my favorite is 'shabon dama' (soap bubble, based on sabão)
That’s because it has a nasalization with the an and the o isn’t heavily vocalized, to a Japanese speaker it could sound like a weird パン. I wondered too until I heard the word pronounced in DuoLingo 😂
For some reason this reminds me of a Tiktok where a Japanese girl was sharing her visit to New York, and some neckbeard in the comments was like “but why would you want to visit dangerous unhealthy America when you’re from glorious Nippon?”
My toxic trait is thinking I'll be the person not to fall into these stages if I ever apply for JET. (I'm an English linguist so teaching English would actually be fun for me and I'm 30 so I'm already over Glorious Nippon.)
Apologies for the re-upload; accidentally deleted the original video early today while doing some channel housekeeping. すまん!

It's all good! Just gives me another excuse to watch it again! Lol!
Now, why would you go and do a thing like that?
Happens to the best of us
You are so goddamn どういたしまして right now frfr no cap
The most unrealistic about this is the ALT bothering to improve his Japanese over the course of the year.
Also having any speaking ability to begin with. Most dont.
oh god the truth hurts
What's an ALT? Sorry I work with IBM tech and there are like 20.000 3 letter abbrevations and I've given up.

I'm glad you mentioned that you re-uploaded it because otherwise, I'd have thought it was some weird time travel experience I was having.
Same I was like bro why’d he make the video again?
I mean…could be both

This is definitely six stages of the JET program, the last one is time travelling back to stage one or having Dejavu...

I love Dogen. One of the funniest creators on YT. I thought he was definitely part Japanese when I first saw him. Love you Dogen!
It’s been years since I watched one of your videos. And you still crack me up!😂
Leaving this comment so when I rediscover this video in a few years I don't think that I didn't watch it because the original got deleted lol
i literally watched this 1 hour after it came out the first time also so I got deja vu when i saw it on my homepage again saying uploaded 1 hour ago
Quite accurate
Even the 1st months terrible Japanese is better than more than half the english teachers that have been there for years in Japan.
Thought Inwas having Deja vu for a second

I always assumed it was from French, since it's a really similar pronunciation. Makes more sense it's Portuguese though.
