    Guys. Come on. The story WE saw, was all in Ratchet's head. It was a PTSD-induced hallucination triggered by seeing the stage. The ACTUAL puppet story had nothing to do with what we saw. That's why everyone is so shocked and confused when Ratchet freaks out.

    there were a lot of hard-to-watch scenes in ratched but this one really took the cake for me... jfc the way they used the puppets to tell the story made it so much more sickening.

    • @johnnorjohnson
      @johnnorjohnson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      It's fairly common practice to use dolls/puppets/toys to allow children to interact and process trauma - possibly most famously in the case of sexual abuse, where lack of understanding of sexual maturity means children likely don't even have the vocabulary to talk about their experience. It can also be a useful technique for adults dealing with childhood trauma later on, which is essentially what we see in this scene.
      Ratched would have read about these techniques and this scene shows how she uses her medical/psychiatric knowledge to confront and interact with challenges in her personal life. The "how dare you" outburst at the end shows how Ratched finally processes the abuse, accepts it for what it was and confronts it as a wrong. It's directed at her abusers - both the Foster parents who created the situation, and the audience who watched it for entertainment. Metaphysically, that also includes us, the viewer, who have become complicit through the act of watching.
      Not sure if that makes the scene any easier a watch but it is a testament to the writing in Ratched!

      @@gregorbaby4269 This is not any story though? It's Hansel and Gretel? One of the most influential fairytales? There are, quite obviously, some fairytales that are much more important for culture and widely known throughout the world, this being one of them. It's ridiculous to pretend it's just one fairytale among many when it is arguably one of the most famous ones.
      I'm not trying to be mean obviously, I'm just pointing out the person's lack of trivia knowledge and general culture.

    There is not point in arguing whether it was real or not. Ofcourse it was her PTSD or why the hell would the man know Ratched's childhood sorry word-by-word. Plus, Ratched was uncomfortable on going to the puppet show since beginning bcz she was the victim of child pornography at her foster home in a so-called show which used her and Edmund as puppets.

    This scene is just such a gold. It shows what a great actress Sarah is. She just sit there and watch her flashbacks, yet her face is changing so slightly, so many emotions are going on and so many things are going in her head. It's just so brilliant. Few minutes of her changing her facial expressions and this is such a brilliant performance. Give her the Oscar finally, instead of these people who after one role are not hired anywhere

    Ok for those that don’t understand because y’all clearly don’t, what Mildred sees isn’t what the kids and her friend see, it’s also not what the man is talking about. What WE and Mildred see is her conscience showing us what happened in her childhood. So no, the kids aren’t watching a play of literal physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. They’re watching what Mildred and us should be seeing , needed to clarify because people were confused. Anyways, let’s wait for season 2 now
