Dutch videos are fun...for the simple fact that NONE of us can seem to universally agree on him lol and. I kind of expect that here. Anyways. Happy 1st of the year!
honestly dutch alongside arthur feels more like a charachter from a really good piece of literature or film, videogame characters are rarely if ever as well written and complex as dutch is
@@justinbieber8028 dutch has this grand feeling that very very little stories can pull off. i'd say it's akin to homelander in the boys. when either one is on screen, they're electric
I don't think Dutch is the staple of the Red Dead series. He is a very well-written character sure, but I believe there could easily be a game without him. Like RDR1 is agreed upon to be a good game and Dutch was not there the whole time. For me at least there are a lot of interesting characters in both games, all well written, Dutch just happens to be one of the more fleshed out and ambiguous ones which makes him more intriguing to talk about.
Could they make a red dead game without Dutch? Yes. But in rdr1 even though he wasn't there for the majority of the game they were in that situation because of him. He didn't have to be their physically for it to have a big impact.
@@truth.honest you only get that impression because of RDR 2 being prequel that sort of retroactively made everything happen because of Dutch while the first RDR game had a lot of focus on Dutch as the former leader of John's gang there as no mention of him being a father figure to John and the main plot is focused on John having to hunt down his former comrades but tragically diyng anyway but the plot is not centered around Dutch losing his shit and gang falling apart its focused on John trying to get the fbi of his back and sort of coming back to face his 'former demons'
@olmeno Regardless of how they designed Dutch, he made the gang so his impact on story was automatically by proxy grandiose albeit not fleshed out. Not to mention, he had the most personality and character of the 3 antagonists because he was the leader.
i think dutch will be part of red dead 3, i beleive red dead redemption the franchise as a whole is a family soap opera kinda like star wars, dutch made arthur the man hes is, arthur made john the man he is then john made jack , its all one legacy one redemption that get passed down
I gotta say during my playthrough I was halfway agreeing with Dutch in the final chapter Not just because of his charisma but his plan seemed solid Make noise, deal with Cornwall, keep attention in the area and slip away It seems solid The flaws were the fact that he kept going after money when we had more than enough let’s be real to go to Tahiti, and when he started abandoning his morales and started using the natives for his own selfish reasons to get heat off the gang’s backs Hell I could partly understand the murder of the old woman in the cave in guarma, she got greedy, he gave her a gold bar his last gold bar and she wanted more So she was obviously gonna get violent Now maybe murder was a bit too far he could’ve just knocked her out and left but I don’t think he was taking chances considering they were all stranded and one slip up meant they’d never get back to the states So I understand both sentiments, Arthur’s and Dutch’s in that regard But the fact of the matter is he continued to disregard the moral standards he taught Arthur and the rest of the gang after that I’d also like to point out while he said he’s not keeping anyone at camp and that anyone could leave anytime he certainly had an issue when Arthur insisted that John and his family leave
i think both a game with and without dutch would be good. but they could probably make it work a lot more if they make the next game be about dutch’s rise to creating his gang. seeing the first interaction between dutch and each of the gang members. idk
If they did a prequel where we played as Dutch and Hosea, I’d honestly be happy. To see how he forged his gang and raised Arthur and John would be amazing.
i definitely 100% feel Dutch will be the main character or one of the main characters for the next game, whether we play as another one of the gang members (one who supposedly already died, example Mac) he was written to well to not be brought back in the next game, it would great for them to let us journey through his past and origin and find out what made him the way he is and why he turned out the way he did. plus they can’t really go forward with Jack Marston, in rdr2 we hear about how the outlaws are pretty much a dying group, it wouldn’t make sense to go in the 1900 esc future, would jus make it gta in the 1900, it only makes sense to go back a little bit more
Honestly I have a theory that for 3 we will play as Dutch, and see him form the gang and we get to see younger versions of the characters. The game then ends with the Blackwater heist. A characters very important to him dies, then we continue as Arthur for the epilogue.
imagine there’s a mission where we get to fish with isaac and arthur while playing as dutch and then later on in the story arthur comes back and tell everyone eliza and issac died
i doubt that because usually the protagonist dies and you play as someone else for the rest of the game. i would like to play as someone who was a part of the gang then after he dies play as arthur for the remainder
You can’t make the epilogue about Arthur after the Blackwater Massacre because that’s literally all of RDR2. Nothing really happens before they get chased up into the mountains where they found Sadie.
For me it's done. We saw what Dutch was in rdr1 and how he became that way in rdr2. I don't think there's enough left to tell a good story with any of the existing characters. Arthur is dead, John is dead, The time-line for jack is probably to late to make it a western. I think any future rdr game has to have a new cast, especially after the bar set by rdr2.
Yea, I really don't see what they could do for another prequel that hasn't been done yet or that wouldn't take away from RDR2. If its just a game about the good days of the gang it'd be kind of boring and not in line with the messages that RDR2 had, or at least it would add nothing past "ohh, oh its the characters I know". If they wanna do it in the time leading up to (and possibly including) the blackwater massacre, it'd take away from the mystery of that as well as create probable timeline problems. I think they should do it like the GTAs, same universe, different cast. I can see them maybe throwing in a character or two as a cameo (Stranger mission with Trelawny or Micah could be possible, since Trelawny is free to come and go from the gang proper and do scams wherever on his own and Micah was already doing criminal shit before meeting the gang). But I think the story of the Van Der Linde gang is a neat package as is and is better left alone...
@@NoFlu couldn't agree more. we know almost all about the van der linde gang, enough to keep the mind wondering. too much exposure to the gang's past will be just dumb and boring because we know how the gang turns out to be. they should let go of the van der linde gang, but keep them in the next game as a side chick or whatever because the van der linde gang is the main focus on both games
I would like to agree with you, but I can't. The Red Dead 'Redemption' series, which followed the tales of the Van Der Linde gang, has reached it's conclusion and will likely not continue. People say they will continue with Jack or Charles, but I think it's neither. The Red Dead series might go on, but Rockstar will likely find a very different story to create if they choose to go on with it at all.
I hate to think of Dutch as 2 dimensional as other think. He wasn't always bad nor turn more into who he always was. He is control based and is over time loses control badly and it especially broke something in his head when people started dying. People talking words of rats everywhere he didn't know what to believe and got paranoid and desperate for someone to at least follow his lead or pretend at least. At the end of it all (the cannon ending) when he saw Arthur dying or at least their father~son relationship dying/dead because of himself by proxy he practically went cold. He had nothing left to live or die for. That marked the moment he was officially broken and whatever happened between the epilogue and rdr1. He's the one that practically killed Micah which was in turn most likely for his treachery and for corrupting his mind when it came to Arthur, his son, that'd take a toll on anybody and he left John alive probably because he didn't wanna be responsible for another of his son's deaths. Correct me if I'm wrong I don't think Dutch ever directly tried to kill John in rdr1 I think at that moment he just wanted to kill the doctor but he said he'd kill John too but I didn't really believe that. I believe he just said that to be taken as a threat, him shooting John's binoculars was a risky shot but I think that's what he was aiming for, if he wanted him dead he'd actually shoot him somewhere vulnerable. Although he didn't necessarily like john, love and like are not always the same. Dutch is a great if not one of the best characters ever written in a game. I think he was a type of evil but not pure evil in my opinion. We don't even know what he's done between rdr2's epilogue and RDR1. You gotta remember rdr2's main story was just a few months canonically. A lot could've happened between the games that we aren't aware that could of happened.
I think rdr3 will be a prequel to rdr2 with Arthur's father as the protagonist and Dutch being a part of that story, probably killing him to make Arthur an orphan and the 1st member of the Vanderline gang.
this is why i don’t think we’ll ever play as dutch. i think it will be another character we haven’t met (personally I hope it’s annabelle, who dutch mentions in the mission where he meets colm) and show the rise of the gang. Dutch will start to show the beginning of his true colors and that character will leave ~the life~ (metaphorically dying), and then we’ll trade off to a younger arthur
Dutch is an amazingly written character, and considering how so many paeople keep echoing that RDR3 should be centered around a young Dutch and the rise of the Gang, I agree with what u are saying. I personally want RDR3 to focus on Jack as he delves into the bootleging era before modern organized crime was established. While not a Western themed game I feel like it is the perfect epilogue to the Saga of the Vander Linde gang and could show Jack ultimately make it out of the life of crime and become a writer documenting the lives of his Father, Arthur and the gang. Also i feel like continuously going back in time to tell the story about the same people would get repetive, as well as limit gameplay and experience.
Dutch embodies the very theme of the Red Dead games: the death of the spirit of the old west. He's a man who railed against the American capitalist machine killing and robbing as he saw fit. But as society expanded and law enforcement grew stronger, Dutch found it more and more difficult to commit to his ideals, leading to the death of Hosea, Arthur and John losing faith in him, the breakup of the Van der Linde gang, and culminating into his final confrontation with John in RDR1 where he full on admits that he can't go against his nature, choosing death over capture by the law. That said, I don't think future games necessarily need to center around him or his legacy. He was crucial in RDR2 because it needed to be shown why John was initially so willing to follow Dutch and also why he left him, meaning Dutch needed to be very fleshed out and embody both admirable and detestable qualities. But he is one of many who encapsulate the theme of 'the death of the spirit of the old west. Dutch's role in future games will entirely hinge on whether or not they center on someone connected to the Van der Linde gang. If it follows Sadie or Jack, as some fans have speculated, I think you can't help but mention Dutch's impact on their lives.
I think for rdr3 rockstar should tell the rest of the Van der Linde story from an outside pov. You play as some gunslinger that just happens to run into the gang whenever they conduct a robbery eventually ending with the blackwater massacre where your character dies (redemption) and you control a different character a few years later in let’s say 1903. Set between the years of 1885-1899 telling their story from the outside pov would be cool. Getting random events of seeing a member or two robbing a coach or a store. Solving the issue of trying to kill them maybe they just disarm you and give you a “fuck off” warning since they’re the best gunslinger in the land would work
i think it should take place in the prime time of the van der linde gang(sometime from late 1870s-mid to late 1880s. knowing how rockstar has been so far with rdr the blackwater massacre is something we may never see unless they make dlc content. they should do something where dutch amd hosea take young john and arthur under their wing and i would like to play as arthurs dad then after he dies play as arthur for the rest of the game.
we get to know why arthur trusted dutch so much and what kind of person dutch was before. i would also like to see how young arthur and marys love life was just like how they did with young john and abigail
A plotline of that nature is unlikely to endure today's gaming standards. The initial concept holds promise, but storytelling hinges not just on the idea itself but also its execution. Rockstar, with its wealth of experience, has likely encountered similar ideas and carefully sifted through them. I don't mean to provoke an argument, but believe me, a narrative like this risks being perceived as an attempt to replicate the success of Red Dead Redemption rather than offering something genuinely fresh. Consequently, interest in the story may diminish rapidly.
Personally,I would love if we get another prequel where we play as prime Dutch building his reputation&meeting Hosea. Also it’d be a cool timeline to play chronologically going 3,2,1 for each protagonist.
I love RDR2, but Borderlands 2 is still probably my favorite video game of all time. I'd also argue that the story in BL2 isn't only in the background. It's definitely not as deep or important as the story in RDR2, but without that story of the conflict between Jack and Vault Hunter(s), even Jack wouldn't be as compelling a character as he is.
RDR2 is really the Tragedy of Dutch Van der Linde. I’m of the school of thought that the bump on his head essentially broke his brain. Another Dutch emerges from that trolly. At least if 3 is a prequel Dutch will revert to being reasonably normal.
I love this game , I’ve played it on consoles and now that I got me a PC , I just started playing it on the PC too. I love this game. It looks great and plays awesome. My all time favorite game. Hands down. 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
He is that well written, that to me if they went further back in the history of the west and this gang. If we get to play as him it would work seeing him start the gang with Hosea
I think rdr3 will be about Dutch if not Jack. I believe his Dutch did something bad before he started the gang and specifically met Hosea, I always thought his name was made up and that he was already on the run for another crime and to restore his redemption he started the van der linde gang and played Robin Hood. Dutch is the ultimate outlaw to the point they had to send his “son” after him even then Dutch didn’t die to a bullet but by his own means.
I think arthur gets the walter white treatment. As in hes a far more horrible person than we want to see but because hes the protagonist we are biased. If you look back on it, Arthur has done things just as bad as dutch, but only Dutch faces the backlash. Its like Dutch is held to a higher moral standard than the others. Plus we're all biased to see Arthur as the good guy, when in truth he did bettay Dutch first, and Dutch simply did the same
Dutch is way more like Walter than Arthur, and that's a fact. Can you please choose a different character to compare because this is a really bad example for people who haven't actually played the game
I think you missed the point being made. Arthur isn’t like Walt, he gets a similar treatment. As in, his sins are overlooked because he’s the protagonist
I mean tbf we do the same thing with John. Rockstar is really good at making bad men atleast good enough for you to root for them but feel somewhat weird about it lol.@@aguy2162
Red Dead Redemption 3 should be between RDR1 and RDR2. As a new character to meet with Dutch’s new gang and watch him go insane. We betray Dutch and watch him break to become the same man we saw in RDR1, since even in the end of RDR2, he’s not the same one we see in the 1st game. And in the end, because of Redemption tradition, the main character dies but this time, directly through Dutch’s hands. And it’s at that moment, he becomes the Dutch from RDR1
I gotta be honest I've seen enough of Dutch I don't want to see him again. Maybe from O'Driscoll's point of view or something I don't know. I'd prefer a completely different gang or something in another part of the US.
A part of me says rdr3 will again go back in time before rdr2 story takes place cause they just didnt use all these ferry job going wrong and mac and davey callander brothers mentioned and talked about in begging of rdr2 along with this jenny girl who died early in game also the girl dutch killed in blackwater massacre the strange man speaks in rdr1 all these things mentioned in story will not go to wasre..but my other part says rdr3 shud not go further back in time cause thay makes gameplay a bit dull.
The difference between Red Dead and Borderlands is that, Red Dead has consistency in the quailty of it's character writing. I don't think the same can be said for borderlands
Thats like saying we cant have another mute protagonist or antagonists because of claude or another black guy in a modern gang because of cj franklin and lamar
I cant remember if youre the one that suggested this before or not (i am sorry if you are). I am actually doing as much research on it as i can at the moment. Currently diving into each character’s own personal notoriety level and whether if they are known to be tied to the van der linde gang or not and how that would affect the world’s perception of the gang as a whole. In short, its coming😁. Hopefully within the next week or so but itll be out before the month is over!
How I think of it is this, I once thought that John Marston was the best character and that they could not top him as a protagonist. Then the trailers came for RDR2 and I was like who is this guy. Ain't my John, and he blew John out of the water completely. Never saw that coming. I feel like if anyone can top Dutch, it's Rockstar. Pardon the pun here, but I have complete FAITH that they can pull this off.
Revisiting Dutch in a sequel would be a mistake. Also RDR shouldn’t become a “villian” series like far cry. I feel like they got Dutch just right and that there’s no more room for him to grow unless they just start doing massive retconing and manufacturing conflict and personal characteristics for him in the past which would be so forced considering the events and growth he already went through/would go through. And there’s also the issue of flanderization that would probably happen. That being said it would never hurt if he cameoed in a few missions or easter eggs. But he shouldn’t be a major character again
I don’t think any of him or his gang should be the main characters in the story my vision for it to be yes further in the past but a new character with a younger John Dutch and Arthur occasionally popping up as side characters and maybe either doing missing with or for them
The media tries to portray male gamers as to not liking female lead protagonist, but I would 100% buy a RDR game with Sadie as the lead!!! Any story can be done the right way.
Dutch is written well but not SO well he can’t be replaced. It’s like you forgot the Pinkerton’s, Micah, and even Arthur himself. The whole damn two games are written well. I’m starting think you’re Dutch in disguise.
I think if there will be a rdr3, it would work best from when john and arthur were young, and dutch and hosea were forming the gang, theres enough plot pieces like old newspaper clippings ect in rdr2 to make it work and we'd get to see the real old west
I don't think it would be difficult for rockstar to not include Dutch, he's extremely well written, but so are all of their front line characters, and we all know they're pretty happy to kill off well written characters ect. I think they would want to keep it to the same characters you're familiar with so it doesn't become something completely separate but idk
No more sequels or van der linde. They are great but there's so many ways to take this really. Wild west right? Push the frontier and grow the genre, its the last days of the wild west. I don't want another Batman and Joker with these characters, less can be more. Take it back fifty or so years. Easter eggs are alright but there's way more people that can become awesome characters. Wasn't Arthur disliked until people played it cause he wasn't john? And then bitch when john was the epilogue? Originality

Consequently, interest in the story may diminish rapidly.
can you do a video on if jack got shipped to italy instead of going to bronte
0:18 did bro just make the first ever fatherless joke 😂
Handsome Jack is an awesome comparison.
I love your vids bruh
A part of me says rdr3 will again go back in time before rdr2 story takes place cause they just didnt use all these ferry job going wrong and mac and davey callander brothers mentioned and talked about in begging of rdr2 along with this jenny girl who died early in game also the girl dutch killed in blackwater massacre the strange man speaks in rdr1 all these things mentioned in story will not go to wasre..but my other part says rdr3 shud not go further back in time cause thay makes gameplay a bit dull.
Can you make a video about how Micah and Dutch reunited in 1907?
I think that Rockstar should end the Redemption trilogy with another prequel showing the origins of the gang
Could you do a vid on the Vander Lin gang on how they were looked at by society and how feared they really were
I cant remember if youre the one that suggested this before or not (i am sorry if you are).
Could be about johns son building his own gang
Any story can be done the right way.
blessing your fans lately w all these uploads, good man!
i'd prefer a game focused on either sadie post rdr2 or jack post rdr1
I love Dutch
Pretty sure that Rockstar said there won't be anymore
They actually said the opposite
@@gradientwrinkle7452 I don’t think so. They specifically said that they was done with the story and had nowhere else to go with it.
Where did you hear this? Some random dude claiming to have “inside information”
@@NinjaskKing lol No, I heard it straight from Rockstar a couple years ago in an interview they were doing.
Earlyyyy love your vids keep it up happy new years
Dutch is written well but not SO well he can’t be replaced. It’s like you forgot the Pinkerton’s, Micah, and even Arthur himself. The whole damn two games are written well. I’m starting think you’re Dutch in disguise.
gamer?
I think if there will be a rdr3, it would work best from when john and arthur were young, and dutch and hosea were forming the gang, theres enough plot pieces like old newspaper clippings ect in rdr2 to make it work and we'd get to see the real old west
I don't think it would be difficult for rockstar to not include Dutch, he's extremely well written, but so are all of their front line characters, and we all know they're pretty happy to kill off well written characters ect. I think they would want to keep it to the same characters you're familiar with so it doesn't become something completely separate but idk
Written and performed!
Originality
would be nice.
Yeah I think
Who honestly fucking cares about RDR2
Labour of Love 2023 my ass
What
Watch the next game we'll play as Dutch
Oh nice 4 seconds
damn early
