seeing all the dbz assists made me so happy, the roster in fighterz is fun but you do miss out on those early DB characters like tao and launch. i cant tell you how excited i was when i saw puar as an assist, of all characters
Puar is also a really good assist in the game lol. Comes out quickly and works very well on offense and defense. Gave me many headaches when I play against good DBZEB players.
DBFZ does assists in the MvC2 style. This game apparently does assists in the MvC1 style: not the playable characters. Overall a good approach for games based on licensed franchises to give room for a wider range of fanservice, with characters that don't fit in the fighting or don't fit the roster because of the size limit. Since a long time i think these kind of fgs should better use the MvC1 assist style instead, or leave the option to use a playable or non playable assist. And on this part there is already a technology set by KOF 00, so I'm not talking about a wacky idea never tried before, and besides you can see it's not new either. If there's a new traditional anime fg i believe it's going to benefit a lot from having npc assists, having the chance to use more characters from the franchise.
The stiff combo structure is extremely similar to how Pokken came off and what put me off to it as well... after leaving and coming back after some time though, I see now that the game has an in depth system for most of the characters that intertwine well with the systems, like this game! I always mention Extreme Butoden whenever the topic of arcsys games or DBZ comes up, because it's such a forgotten gem in their library despite getting pretty heavy promotion on the e-shop and in the press at the time. Not Sengoku Basara X levels of obscure (obligatory reminder to do your part and nag Capcom to release ANY OTHER Sengoku Basara game in the west besides 3), but people still tend to gloss over it. Also I, honestly feel like the DS and 3DS were a fine platform for fighting games along side the PSP. Especially with how clicky and precise the D-pad was on the 3DS. The only real weakness of 7th gen handhelds to me is the 4 face buttons rather than 6 or bumpers, but that's a very minor issue compared to the concessions the GBA and GBC had to make. and the fighting game library for both of them is surprisingly rich. What made this more amazing than the crossover itself is that it was two different games combined to make one Imagine if somehow FighterZ and Strive did that (Like the Goku mod in Strive)
Not a good idea, they have little to do with each other, much less than DB vs OP. Better leave Arcsys create another new anime fg and then let it crossover with DBFZ. Or else just bring an actual anime crossover. Like Capcom started with X-Men only and the turned it into a crossover in the next game.
when that happens I'll preorder that shit day one and it better come with all five mains, the two silver gals, a handful of golds, and voices in four different languages (JP, H-Town EN, LatAm SP, Brazil PT)
I always like seeing games that separate assist characters from the playable cast, it's such a good way to include characters that would never get a chance at being in this type of game otherwise. It's a shame it's probably less economical to do that now that 3d graphics are the standard.
I wish Konami decided to do a Yugioh Fighting Game based on the monsters and lore, I want to play as Summoned Skull throwing lightning and punching stuff.
@@GuileWinQuote there are people doing Fan Theories and Lists of what monsters they would like to see. Some of them even brought the idea of giant Fighters like Tatsunoko vs Capcom for monsters like Gate Guardian or Ancient Gear Golem.
I remember being hyped for EB as a Dragon Ball fan and also because it was the first traditional 3DS fighter in like 4 years, and I originally played a lot of Street Fighter 4 or DOA Dimensions on it so I was dissapointed to see the console not getting anything after that and all the fighters being on the Vita instead, but in the end I didn't pick it up because of the middling reviews. Now your comments makes me think I maybe should have picked it up regardless of that.
i imagine the exclusive rosters in each game chosing which game for what charecters and assist its in own meta even tho having and one with all package would prolly be more comfturble
I fell like showing a picture of Senior Pink is a test by itself to tell who read one piece and how far they read it. Also the different assist between the games is as accurate you can think off with the Dragonball character as only having simple but powerful skills while One Piece characters have unique but less damaging skill (damaging by itself, can't say the same after some of those combos)
Man, with modern DLC type content, and fighters that come out and then have 1-2 years of DLC character addons, it'd be so cool to see them drop a One Piece game that is engine compatible with FighterZ, and if you own FighterZ then you can import characters over no problem. They would probably want to have separate online brackets for "mixed" and "One Piece only" though.
4:22 I feel like this is how ANY forgotten/underrated fighting game experiences a resurgence in interest and/or popularity; someone actually takes time out of their day to mess around with the game and thus they discover all the nutty shit you can do in it X33
I had Extreme Butoden, never realized it was an Arc Sys game. As a kid I really loved it, certainly not a very in depth fighter but it was always super fun.
You briefly touched on this, but Isn't there also a CvS1-esc ratio system, where all the characters have a set ratio? I haven't played it myself, but the idea of balancing a character's tools based on their ratio seems pretty interesting, rather than just scaling their damage/health like CvS2. Like an intentional version of the fan-made ratio rules for MvC2, having characters being intentionally over/undertuned depending on their cost Not sure how much I'd actually like a system like that, cause I like when everyone is on roughly equal footing, but it seems like an interesting idea at the very least. Like what if you could get an anime-esc airdasher in a relatively grounded game for a slightly higher cost than normal? Or picking a shitty joke character to give yourself more room for better characters, or just spamming like 4-5 low-cost characters like CvS1? Or maybe even spending all of your points to play as a super OP final boss?
Yeah I originally had a whole section of the script explaining the ratio system, But when you play crossover matches the ratio system is removed, and if you play the standard team size it's never a hindrance so I decided not to explain it. It more so affects single player stuff and matches before everything is unlocked and doesn't really affect actual games against other people. All in all though I hate the idea haha, I don't think it's ever been done in a good way
It's so fun to just sit in the lab on Fighting Adventure, even characters I didn't think I'd care for like Mr. 3 are so fun. And yeah...chopper is a nightmare in this games lol
Man this game is so crazy and fun i really love things like ssj goku teleport loops, base vegeta being able to delete almost all of your hp in the corner, cell deleting your HP with his kick loops and his version of big bang attack from full screen, ssj 2 kid gohan being able to spam his kicks on the air, vegeta dance assist giving you like 125% ki for free
This is kinda like Ultimate Muscle GCN, a basic and plain 3D fighter, but once you get the assist/support meta you can unlock the craziest stuff in the game
@@GuileWinQuote On this channel I have labbed it and played online for quite a while, is an action-reaction type of fg, kinda like Toy Fighter, but with A LOT of footsies and oki
I’m so glad someone finally did a deep dive on this after years of just scouring for matches of these two games together! Arcsys has to do it one more time!!! ‼️❗️❕
I know it's not the topic, but this game reminded me of another awesome Fighter on the DS called Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars. Released only in Japan, It plays like Smash brothers with HP and Assists, but with all of Jump's big manga characters. To be honest I think in terms of systems and mechanics, it's one of the more unique fighters. You build your team by filling up squares of a manga panel for instance, and the arenas boundaries are within the pages of a manga comic book that you can break open. For the DS it was one of my most treasured games after MKDS. I say you check that one out next.
I’ve always wanted to play a one piece 2d fighter and this looks super rad honestly I’m super interested in seeing how many silly assists there are(hoping for the goat gaimon), as a long time one piece fan I’m looking forward into jumping into this game great video as always!!!
Somehow this is in-between the 3d arena fighter (with the command being the same for every characters, but the results of theses command being character specifics) and the "serious" 2d fighters.
I played SO MUCH of the demo as a kid (which had Goku, Vegeta, Teen Gohan and Buu I believe) It was one of those demos that had limited uses so I lefts it open constantly to get the most possible out of it I checked and I still have like 7/20 uses left from how much I left it on 😂
The button layout system is basically from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but more limited. JJBA has 3 normal attack buttons (1 more here) and a special/gimmick button that is associated to the character's personal ability.
I discovered this game with GriffyBones clips as well and was dying to se a video of it here, didn't dissapoint in the slightest, as a One Piece and not Dragon Ball fan I only checked out Pirate Colosseum and had a lot of fun, kinda want to jump online but don't know if being in Brazil you affect the connection. Another thing that made me really happy was looking at pretty much every tier list and seeing Chopper, my favorite One Piece character pretty high up, way to go doctor! One last thing, Vivi is an assist and I'll play/watch/read anything that she's in, I don't care if she's good or not, she's fixed on any team I play
Amazing video as always. I definitely played Dragon Ball Z Extreme Butoden alot back when it first came out. Was kind of hard to play on the original 2DS but I made it work LOL. Loved playing as Adult Gohan and Super Saiyan God Goku. Also loved the fact that its apart of the Butoden Series. One day you should cover the Dragon Ball Kai Ultimate Butoden game for the 3DS. I wonder how deep those game mechanics go??💥
I played the hell out of Ultimate Butoden when it first came out, and honestly when I first played Extreme I was disappointed it wasn't more like Ultimate! I need to go back to it and check it out again
The team building system was already done somehow in KOF 01, by Eolith (Korean dev) when SNK was dead. But a little more limited: it's a 4v4 game and you can choose 1 to 4 chars to play, and the rest will be assist only. So this game's system is a kind of progression of KOF 01's system mixed with CvS2's flexibility of choosing less characters if desired.
I'm amazed at the ammount of characters i'm seeing on the One Piece game, i saw characters i wouldn't even think to add to a one piece fighting game even as an assist.
First great video. Next, I like that you can see the skeleton that will become dbz fighterz as some of the animations and the game mechanics are in that game as well. That being said I hope they make a shonen jump fighting game as the sequel as opposed to a new dbz however with that making the money it did I'm not all that surprised.
I tried ordering this game before realizing 3DS games are region locked, which broke my heart. Hearing there is good emulation for it has me kind of excited
I have had two ideas for anime fighting games that I would love to see Arc System Works do: Sailor Moon (like the one did on SNES) and a crossover with Rumiko Takahashi series (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma, Inuyasha).
I remember having a lot of fun with Extreme Butoden's story mode when it came out, and of course thinking the sprite work was beautiful. Like you, by the time online play dropped I had already kinda moved on to other games plus the idea of playing online over wifi as bad as the 3DS's wifi speeds were wasn't exactly exciting. I do remember seeing combo videos posted back in 2015 and thinking what could be done in the game was cool, and then later seeing the announcement that it would work with the One Piece game and just wondering who that was for. It's cool to see that it's actually still played today. Some sort of combo pack remaster allowing full crossover gameplay on modern consoles would be awesome.
Both games look like fun games and big loveletters to their respective franchises! Might try out the One Piece one someday... whenever I'm up to date with the Dressrosa arc

Thank you for watchin!!!! 🙇🏼🙇🏼🙇🏼
"I saw a grown man dressed as a baby doing a suplex to someone from the sky"
That's a rare sentence, but a very One-piece to say.
Thanks Guile, as a fighting game fan, dbz and one piece as you, you light me up my heart with a tremendous flame with this game i didn't even know about (I did know that extreme butoden existed but not like THIS). Thanks for everything I'm gonna play like a monkey all day.
so glad people are talking about these games. i cant even explain how many hours ive played these games without anoyone to playwith except for my brother sometimes. i theory crafted combos made tier lists and all that stuff. i thought i was the only one who cared about these games. thanks for making this video and for the discord link new sub
Thanks for watching!!
@@GuileWinQuote no prob was a great watch
What made this more amazing than the crossover itself is that it was two different games combined to make one
Imagine if somehow FighterZ and Strive did that (Like the Goku mod in Strive)
Not a good idea, they have little to do with each other, much less than DB vs OP. Better leave Arcsys create another new anime fg and then let it crossover with DBFZ. Or else just bring an actual anime crossover. Like Capcom started with X-Men only and the turned it into a crossover in the next game.
@@carlosaugusto9821 and what does x men have to do with street fighter?
As always great video, I just love it when these niche games just get picked up by a passionate community and get labbed, played and shown love
One day there will be a decent Saint Seiya fighter and it'll be dope. Mark my words
The PS2 games are OK imo.
I've been waiting for a SS fighter like that for so many years... Ps2 and UC are fine tho.
Soldier's Soul isn't that deep, but I enjoyed it despite not knowing much about the franchise beforehand. Besides, there's always M.U.G.E.N.
when that happens I'll preorder that shit day one and it better come with all five mains, the two silver gals, a handful of golds, and voices in four different languages (JP, H-Town EN, LatAm SP, Brazil PT)
Traweezie being mentioned really made my day, Thank you for this amazing video.
Okay now that's an amazing idea I hadn't seen before!!! I'd kill for that
@@GuileWinQuote there are people doing Fan Theories and Lists of what monsters they would like to see. Some of them even brought the idea of giant Fighters like Tatsunoko vs Capcom for monsters like Gate Guardian or Ancient Gear Golem.
Rip traweezie
Traweezie was a guy that played just about everything, RIP
Hold on babe, new guilewinquote video just dropped.
Dude, first off, amazing intro!
Thank you!!! I hope it brought a smile to all the One Piece diehards!!!!
Ah yes, Fighterz before Fighterz. Glad I got a 2DS XL when I had the chance.
Shoutouts to Griffy
When're we doing a Merfight vid? Indie fighters in general?
I remember being hyped for EB as a Dragon Ball fan and also because it was the first traditional 3DS fighter in like 4 years, and I originally played a lot of Street Fighter 4 or DOA Dimensions on it so I was dissapointed to see the console not getting anything after that and all the fighters being on the Vita instead, but in the end I didn't pick it up because of the middling reviews. Now your comments makes me think I maybe should have picked it up regardless of that.
Thank you for making this video! I love this game to bits and thought I was the only person to play it
Thank god someone made a video breaking down these two games i've been a fan of them for years thank you for this video my good sir!
Had no idea either of these existed... I gotta play them for the sprite work alone! But mechanically Im impressed with how fun both look.
Everyday, I'm finding more fighting games that I had no idea existed and I freaking LOVE IT!!
Same
God, I would LOVE to play a One Piece game developed by ArcSys again in the same engine as FighterZ.
i imagine the exclusive rosters in each game chosing which game for what charecters and assist its in own meta even tho having and one with all package would prolly be more comfturble
Dragon Ball itself can also get pretty ridiculous, but respect for reading One Piece before getting into the game fully. Earned a like and sub.
This video was simply amazing, the wait was worth it 👌
You briefly touched on this, but Isn't there also a CvS1-esc ratio system, where all the characters have a set ratio? I haven't played it myself, but the idea of balancing a character's tools based on their ratio seems pretty interesting, rather than just scaling their damage/health like CvS2. Like an intentional version of the fan-made ratio rules for MvC2, having characters being intentionally over/undertuned depending on their cost
Not sure how much I'd actually like a system like that, cause I like when everyone is on roughly equal footing, but it seems like an interesting idea at the very least.
All in all though I hate the idea haha, I don't think it's ever been done in a good way
DOOOOD!! Awesome video!!
One Piece Fighting Adventure mentioned, lets gooooo. Great video! I might try Great Pirate Colosseum one day because I saw that Chopper is top 2 lol.
The wildest thing is, I was looking around for any good gameplay found online. And here I am seeing someone go over the cross feature
Crazy how the some of the same animations carried over to DBFZ
This is kinda like Ultimate Muscle GCN, a basic and plain 3D fighter, but once you get the assist/support meta you can unlock the craziest stuff in the game
I need to spend some time on that game, it's one of the only ones I haven't touched at ALL
@@GuileWinQuote On this channel I have labbed it and played online for quite a while, is an action-reaction type of fg, kinda like Toy Fighter, but with A LOT of footsies and oki
There was also a DBZ, Naruto, One Piece crossover fighter on the PS2 called D.O.N. Battle Stadium.
thank you for this amazing video and thanks for eternally dabbing on dsp
1:55 AYO GOKU WHAT YOU DOIN BRO?!
This is another reason why Shonen Jump FighterZ should be made.
I’m so glad someone finally did a deep dive on this after years of just scouring for matches of these two games together! Arcsys has to do it one more time!!! ‼️❗️❕
One piece fighterz
That dude in the baby costume has one of the realest backstories ever.. You’d just never know it from his appearance alone.
Found this video through someone linking it on twitter. Great stuff, man! If SF6 wasn't coming out this week, I'd be jumping on this right away!
Stick around for my next video then 🤫
god I love Gild Tesoro's blinged-out Aegis Reflector in this game lmao
Best channel on TH-cam
Thank you for the support 🙇🏼
I’ve always wanted to play a one piece 2d fighter and this looks super rad honestly I’m super interested in seeing how many silly assists there are(hoping for the goat gaimon), as a long time one piece fan I’m looking forward into jumping into this game great video as always!!!
Somehow this is in-between the 3d arena fighter (with the command being the same for every characters, but the results of theses command being character specifics) and the "serious" 2d fighters.
I played SO MUCH of the demo as a kid (which had Goku, Vegeta, Teen Gohan and Buu I believe)
It was one of those demos that had limited uses so I lefts it open constantly to get the most possible out of it
I checked and I still have like 7/20 uses left from how much I left it on 😂
XD
Exact same lmao
The button layout system is basically from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but more limited. JJBA has 3 normal attack buttons (1 more here) and a special/gimmick button that is associated to the character's personal ability.
damn i didnt even know this was real :0
great vid man
I discovered this game with GriffyBones clips as well and was dying to se a video of it here, didn't dissapoint in the slightest, as a One Piece and not Dragon Ball fan I only checked out Pirate Colosseum and had a lot of fun, kinda want to jump online but don't know if being in Brazil you affect the connection.
It's honestly really cool to see a video game being able to be played with another completely separate but similar video game.
It would be awesome if they ported these games already combined with more balancing and maybe even more characters for the switch
I wonder how deep those game mechanics go??💥
Actually DBK:UB was a DS game, which is insanely impressive and ambitious, albeit probably not the best decision.
Ultimate Butoden wasn't really a "real fighter", although i'm all in for more people decovering and covering that game.
I played the hell out of Ultimate Butoden when it first came out, and honestly when I first played Extreme I was disappointed it wasn't more like Ultimate! I need to go back to it and check it out again
Hey just a reminder, you’re not allowed to play the one piece commercial break sound without playing the other half thanks
So many of the moves from this game are just lifted right into DBFZ its crazy
All you had to do was tell me Goku and his tractor appear as an assist in this game :O
another great video, love your content man.
This means a lot! Thank you for watching 🙇🏼🙇🏼🙇🏼🙇🏼
Oh, someone’s finally talking about this banger of a crossover developed by Arc system.
First great video. Next, I like that you can see the skeleton that will become dbz fighterz as some of the animations and the game mechanics are in that game as well. That being said I hope they make a shonen jump fighting game as the sequel as opposed to a new dbz however with that making the money it did I'm not all that surprised.
i hope someone makes a romhack that contains all of the characters from both games
So glad more people are learning about this little game.
Seeing videos like these make me wish I was older back then
I tried ordering this game before realizing 3DS games are region locked, which broke my heart.
These games are some of the coolest fighting games I've ever seen the idea of a crossover is nuts only arcsys could snap like this
Lo and behold, 2 games I had no clue about, but now i need to get my hamds on em.
GWQ is balling rn, old 3DS fightin' game as a cross tag game, almost 50K views in a week, and made a cool ass intro, this man is balling hard
Beautiful work as always GWQ. 😭
Yeah, i'd love a HUGE ArcSys OP Game
