You deserve to be remembered. Thank you for your good show.
So true.
huh? did HG die?
Absolutely concur!!! 💯
That conclusion was beautiful. Please never stop History Guy!
I enjoy all your stuff History Dude, but I find your "This Day In History" episodes particularly entertaining. Treat yourself some extra chocolate today!
Hear, hear!
He's allergic to chocolate, are you trying to kil...
I'm just kidding.
@@notahotshot On today's news: Nik Cruz strikes again, this time from his prison cell!
Agreed. These have quickly become my favorite THG episdoes.
I've seen almost every single one of your videos and I honestly think this might be one of the best.
The Parkland and the Pale Blue Dot comments really nailed it. I'll never look at February 14th the same again. Thank you for what you do. I genuinely appreciate this channel.
I am 62 y.o. now, and I only wish that my history teachers were a little bit like The History Guy.
Thank you THG for bringing so much knowledge of history to the masses. It is much appreciated.
I love this because on this day in 1961, I was born at St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie New York during a heavy snowstorm.
Thank you, history guy, for this amazing recap of events.
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday!
"Nelson's Patent Bridge" was the craziest Naval story I'd ever heard, until I heard some more Nelson stories.
As an Arizona resident for the last almost 50 yrs. I especially appreciate this day in history. I understand you also have some Arizona history, glad to see quality people doing good things! Thank you brother!
HAPPY STATEHOOD DAY, even though I live in Chicago now.. I still take the day as a personal holiday every year. 😀
Thanks again for another History of February 14th and it was completely different than the previous ones.
Live Long & Prosper, Lance. We ALL Love you.
Man, the stuff with the Pale Blue Dot and the ending was so well done.
History is our evolution. You capture it so well. Thanks.
That might just be your best concluding monologue ever.
Another great episode... But that conclusion really hit me hard 😢
A holiday that began with a beheading. Oh what marvelous creatures we are.
This was deep. It took us all over the place and I am thankful for that journey. ❤
And today it is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of lent for Christians.
Fish 🐟 🐠 fillet from McDonald's 11:35
Which it also was six years ago, when--as THG reminded us--the Parkland Incident (or "The Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Massacre") occurred. And it's not just Parkland: it's all of Broward County--at least.
As I'm sitting at my desk, in a short sleeved shirt I am remember the Valentine's week Snowmageddon of 3 years ago. Texas was brought to a stand still and many people were without power for most of the time. And, the next week I was in short sleeves - Texas is crazy!
"The Silence of the Lambs"--now there's a great date movie for Valentine's Day--if you're not planning to have any more dates with that person. I remember a disc jockey saying that the only valentine he had received that day showed a bunch of guys being machine-gunned in a garage.
Another great thing that happened February 14th. Aretha Franklin recorded Respect. Which was voted the 2nd best song of all time!
It's interesting to know what is the first best song of all time. I wonder what that song is.

Says who?
Nice presentation as always. Thanks HG
"The Pale Blue Dot" ...better known as a small, insignificant little blue-green planet orbiting an unregarded star at a distance of roughly 93 million miles in the unfashionable end of the Western spiral arm of the Galaxy.

What a lovely look on February 14 history. Love it!
No mention of John Moses Browning's invention approved for his model of 1911 pistol.
It was actively in service @ 100 years.
My grandmother Isabel Salmark was born on Valentine's Day. Without her I wouldn't be here today.
History that deserves to be remembered!
3:15 'sitting US President', nice double entendre.
Well done, Professor!
Driving around the Austin and Houston areas in March of 93 I was laughing about the ice on bridges signs. One morning in Austin the ice was about an inch thick. 350 accidents. Driving back from the LBJ ranch the scariest hail storm of my life.
Sadly, most people don't even know about Saint Valentine of Ochrid.
That deserves to be mentioned.
Such a powerful episode, Lance. When Carl Sagan wrote his tribute to the pale blue dot, I was a teenager who thought it was “cool”. It wasn’t until living through the tragedies of the past two plus decades have I realized its profound relevance.Thank you for your incredible work. 😊
My husband and I watch The History Guy at night as the last thing we do every day. Thank you, for your wonderful research and presentation. Your voice is very calming and reassuring.
a few scant years ago February in Houston was chilling, with sub-freezing temps unusually hanging in for a few days. a few inches of snow crippled the city. for those able to deal with winter it was a little comedic, but also tragic due to the power grid collapsing under less than proactive stewards.
Simply the very best. Thank you.
This was a particularly fine episode, props to you good sir
The Ocean Ranger disaster would be a good subject for an episode. The storm was only the last piece of a long sting of events and decissions that led to the destruction of the platform and the loss of all hands.
Thank THG🎀.....This old man in my 80's need your prayers....For i am very weak now
I'll be sure to say an extra prayer for you and all in need tonight 🙏
What an eclectic collection. Disparate events just connected by one day in the callender.
What a place! Thank you!!
Good Wednesday morning History Guy and everyone watching. Class is back in session. Happy Valentines Day.
This date is appropriate. It's the day that MILLIONS of people have lost their heads . . .over someone special.
Heyooo!
Excellent as always. 14 Feb 1966 Australia got decimal currency.
I absolutely love your delivery.
History is exciting. Great job, "History Guy."
Gray and Bell were just trying to find a way to make reservations for their Valentine's Day dinner......
Happy Valentine's Day, Lance
Well done! That you know Drunk History makes me laugh. Keep up the good work.
And most importantly, shout out to all the folks, like my mom, born on Valentine’s Day. Without her, my brother and I wouldn’t be here. Happy 75th Birthday mum.
One of the absolute BEST TH-cam channels ever. Thank you for what you do!!!
I think your channel is awesome! I can always count on finding something interesting to watch on it when I want to sit down for a few minutes and do some mending or something. This morning I was thinking about The Jazz Singer and Singing in the Rain, wondering how much of what was portrayed in the latter actually happened around the time the former was first released. I also wondered how many stage actors and actresses successfully successfully made the transition to movies because of issues portrayed in the latter. I don't know if you've already done an episode on any of that, but if you have maybe you could dress it up and present it for the centennial for the release of The Jazz Singer since, I believe, that's not many years away now
Keep up your important Good Works. Your "dailies" aren't lost on we armchair historians!
Happy Valentine's Day, History Guy!
I wish you had said something about the decisive Battle of Chipyong-ni which halted and turned back the Chinese invasion of South Korea during the Korean War.
Theodore Roosevelt's mother and wife both died on February 14th, causing him to head to North Dakota to find emotional healing as a rancher.
That's the problem with history, there are only 365 days that important events can possibly happen on. With a couple Millennia at this point of recorded history across the word, it's inevitable that there will always be more noteworthy things on any given day that could ever be covered in a 15 minute video.
The good news is that there will still be plenty for the History Guy to choose from to discuss in a video for every date next year. 😀 👍
Very touching.
Excellent conclusion for this video!
I love the history dumps ‘on this day’. And no warships today !
Well, a few in the middle.
THG, you rock! Peace
We love you history guy!
13:30. Don't feel too bad for Voyager. I have a feeling we'll see it again in the future.... possibly with malicious intent! 😄
Like a rebellious teenager or something, it'll come back with some tough-sounding, gangster nickname like "V-Ger" or something like that.
I'm Soo glad you covered today it's my birthday ❤🎉 I love history so much and I absolutely love your work! Happy Valentine's day guys❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Happy Birthday!
I can't imagine ever wanting my history class to end with you as an instructor
Thanks again for another great video. Indeed an interesting ending note especially since this years Valentine's Day falls on Ash Wednesday: the theme is "memento mori".
Thank you for the lesson.
Well said Sir!
Excellent episode. And yes enjoy some chocolate as the Price of Cocoa has risen enough to make the national news , i saw Yesterday ! Be well my friend. Love the Channel !
I love this channel 🎉 thanks History Guy !!
Excellent conclusion!
Love these! Thank you, and have an amazing day 💜😊
I watch a lot of TH-cam, maybe too much. However you show is one I always look forward to seeing!
Very well said
"The History Guy" references "Drunk History" all is right in the world
Enjoy the day with your Valentine Lance!
Bravo!
Happy Valentine's Day, Professor G!!!!!
Back in the Saddle Again Naturally!
I'll add one more... One of the most influential entertainers of the 20th century was born, Jack Benny in 1894 in Waukegan Illinois. He would have turned 39 for the 91st time this year
Thank you for history on this day i liked and shared this video out your welcome History Guy😊❤.
When I was sailing across the South Pacific in 1986 there were only 6 satellites that could be used for navigation with the system we had and if the weather was cloudy we couldn't receive a signal. My father used celestial navigation for the most part with the satellite navigation as a back up.
Nice ending HG.
The Polk mullet. Did he make it fashionable?
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
And born on February 14, 1894 one of the world’s greatest entertainers, Jack Benny (born Benjamin Kubelsky) who deserves to be remembered.
A great episode
Love this video!
Brilliant
Great video! Always a fan of History!
GPS has been functioning since 1989, google maps still can't get me within 80 miles of the pins I saved, with the GPS coordinates beside the name I saved it under.
Shooting at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL also happened on Feb 14. Six students and the shooter died
79 years ago today, the stunned surviving residents of Dresden, Germany were coming out of their cellars and bomb shelters to survey the near total devastation of their city, and look for relatives and friends, dead or alive. The raid had begun at 10:03 PM the night before, with the first of three waves of bombers, totaling over a thousand airplanes. The first two waves were comprised of British Mosquitos and Lancaster bombers, which attacked at night. The third after dawn wave on the 14th was American B-17s, normally used for daylight "precision" bombing.
Dresden was essentially destroyed. An estimated 25,000 died. Postwar reconstruction has restored many of the historic structures, including the Frauenkirche, and continues to this day.
I remeber late 80's before Gps was a thing for the public, some of the original military satellites were going to fail. The govt didnt want to pay to replace them. The military had something new and they thought civilian use was limited and wouldnt justify replacement costs. So the system would stop working within a year or two.
Wonder what ever happened with that...
Good show ..
Thanks!
Thank you!
Jack Benny was born 2/14/1896! Forever 39!
What about Theodore Roosevelt's great tragedy? On Fed 14th his wife died giving birth and his mother died upstairs.
love your videos
The best channel on TH-cam and it far exceeds anything on television except maybe some old South Park and The Andy Griffith Show.
My home state of Wyoming! ❤
UW Alumnus here.
@@TheHistoryGuyChannel Awesome! Same.
You can know what each chocolate is if you look at the paper with a picture and description that usually comes inside the box. Each kind being different.
You mention Parkland. And yet another mass shooting this Valentine’s Day History repeats itself.
The tiny speck of blue... in a sea of black void.
Forrest Gump's Mamma said "life is like a box of chocolates" - I respectfully disagree. Because for me, life is like a toilet roll - cos the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes! 😉
