Thank you for these videos about the small towns in North Carolina. I live with a friend right now in Midland, NC and am looking for a small property in a small NC town. So these videos really help. Heading to Rockingham in the morning to look at a property. Always helps to see what the nearest town looks like. Thank you.
The building with the strange siding and large glass display windows was a large Belk Department Store. To the immediate west of it was Fox Drugs. The Manufacturer’s Building held offices downstairs and a doctor’s clinic upstairs. Had my tonsils out there around 1952. The Discovery Place was built as Hallum’s Furniture. The large, yellow brick building was built in the 1930’s as a Post Office. The fountain square was always a town square. Up near the church by the repaved parking lot was the A&P Food store. I left in 1965 after 18 years growing up there but my heart never has…

FYI At minute 2:50 you are walking past a former gym. It was called Lee's Fitness. Lee Rorie owned it and he was the strongest man in the world on the bench press (bodyweight of 198, paused a 606 lb bench press). I used to work there from 90-92. Awesome gym!

@@TimothyFrench I get ya , small shops have never been for me . We are all different , I don't want to personally know the workers or have them guess what I'm getting , ex. Gas station pulls out the cigarettes you want . Sometimes I change my mind . I don't want attention. I feel pressured to buy in small stores . I feel watched . I can blend in in bigger places . I'm always polite and like it that way !

You can find DR Pharmacy at 304 East Washington St. and the Major stores outside the town center along E Broad Ave. Manufacturing employs around 5700 workers, followed by retail, healthcare, accommodations, and food service. This town has not grown period it's the same as it was when I was little. They do not want it to grow jobs are gone and it's not the best place to live there is nothing at all for kids to do. They got rid of the movie theater. There a nothing town
When I was growing up there the town had three movie theaters. Of course, there was no streaming video back then. The population has doubled since I left for college in 1965. But, there is not a big difference between 5,000 and 10,000 population. In my time, it was a great town to grow up in…
Beautiful town with really nice people. Unfortunately, textile industry died, R. W. Goodman died, US 74 By Pass caused US 74 to die, and Rockingham passed.

There are tones of stores. Even Starbucks. It fact too many places .

The stores are on the other end of town . This is the downtown area . Not much there .
