    Thank you! I'm a musician. I have wanted a set of bongos since I was 10 years old (I'm 78). I just bought a set. I learn music and beats by ear. This is absolutely perfect to learn from. This will also help with my steel pan playing. Michael

It helps to understand those rhythms, even usually not known to me! Or if heard it did not think about it. It was very helpful to listen to your teachings even with notes. Greetings from Germany!

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you very much for your comment!
      The rhythms of Salsa and Bachata are played on the basis of the Martillo rhythm. In Salsa, bongocero plays martillo and variations based on it in the verses, and in the choruses he takes a cowbell bongo and plays its rhythm. In Bachata, improvisational inserts are added to the martillo in the form of fast fractions and different breaks. In Merengue, you can also play Martillo and if the rhythm is also played by congas, then add improvisations.

    Thanks for this video! Are the Afro-Cuban rhythms for son Cubano? Is it 2:3 clave or 3:2 clave?

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for an interesting question! Son was traditionally performed in Son Clave 3-2, more modern Cuban styles are more common 2-3 and Rumba Clave. Most often, the type of clave in a song is determined by the main melody. If the melody starts due to the beat or in the first beat, then it is considered that the song is in 3-2. If the melody begins with the second beat, then most often this song is 2-3.

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's best to start by learning the Martillo rhythm. He's the first in the video. Most Latin American styles of music are played on its basis. For all rhythms, I have given examples from simple to complex, so you can start with the first examples if you are just starting to play.

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For ease of study, you can take one bar from any rhythm and play only it. Then separately disassemble the second one like this. then combine them. This is the easiest way. And of course, start practicing at a slow tempo, then, when your hands get used to it, you can gradually increase Tempo.

    здравствуйте! спасибо, очень интересное и полезное видео, мне понятно всё, что вы тут играете, т.к. я долгое время занимался джембе, дарбукой и рамочными барабанами, недавно приобрел бонго Tycoon MTBHC-BC, очень хочется изучить латиноамериканскую ритмику и это видео стало находкой. подскажите, пожалуйста, а какой строй у ваших бонго?

      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Здравствуйте! Рад, что видео пригодится в обучении! Обычно Бонги настраивают в кварту. У меня здесь строй такой:
      низкий C и высокий F. Видео записывались в разное время и иногда строй был D и G .
      Высота может быть и другой, это зависит от диаметра бонгов и типа пластика или кожи. На слух настраивают так, что бы высокий бонго начал петь - звенеть (звучать ярко). Кожу при этом после игры лучше чуть приспускать, что бы не растягивалась со временем. С пластиком такой проблемы нет, натянул и забыл.

    Can you tell me how to get the right sound of the drums? I beat rhythms, but the sound is very different from the pure sound on the video. Thank you!

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am glad that my video was interesting to you and you practice these rhythms. There are two variants of the game loud and normal. In the video I showed the usual technique. In a small drum, the blow is made with the index finger. The blow is sharp, as if you touch a hot iron with your finger. The finger touches the edge of the drum at the midpoint of the second phalanx of the finger (between the joints of the finger) where soft tissues are. But the impact itself into the membrane occurs with the pad of the fingertip. In the big drum, the blow is done the same way, but the edges of the drum touch the soft tissues of the third phalanx of the finger. This makes the sound more dense. If you want to play loudly, then the blows are applied with three fingers. The striking technique is the same. For the right sound, it is important to tune the drum well. The usual interval for tuning is a quart. For example, the big drum is the note C, and the small one is the note F. Or the notes D and G respectively. All nuts should be stretched evenly, because of this, the overtones sound the same and the sound turns out beautiful. I hope I helped you.

      Thanks for the comment! In the Salsa style, bongos are played mainly to the rhythm of Martillo and improvise based on it. I plan to make a large section on Arabic rhythms, but mainly for the darbuka drum (dumbek). I haven't found enough information on bongos in Arabic rhythms yet, although I understand that any rhythm played on a darbuka can be played on bongos :)

    How do you play this with drum sticks on a drum kit? Thanks

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The question is interesting! It depends a lot on the situation. If, for example, there is no percussion in the band, then the drum part includes the Maracas part and the main accents of the percussion part. If there is a percussionist, then you can lighten the drum part and take on the part of Cowbell and Timbales. The situation strongly depends on the style of music and the nature of the arrangement, for example, in Samba, a bass drum can play the Surdo part, and in the Mambo style, a barrel may not be needed, or rare Bombo accents.
      I have rhythms for a drum kit in my playlists, maybe you will like something in them. th-cam.com/play/PLYsXiOiqESq12qZwdZ0jAJBpugiB85v3u.html

    Amigo estudia armonia teoria , la clave neutra es para ejercicios de ritmica no para ejecutar en una pieza

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves
      @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gracias por el interesante envío. Para instrumentos de percusión sin un tono específico, se utiliza una clave especial "neutral". Su propósito es diferente de la asignación del resto de las teclas en el sentido de que no muestra el tono de la nota, sino que simplemente asigna un Stan para indicar el lote de un instrumento de percusión en particular. Para los tambores, hay dos llaves que tienen el mismo significado, solo que se ven un poco diferentes. Uno como dos rasgos y el segundo como un rectángulo vertical.

    nothing to say about your nice martillo but are you sure about your variations ?? because to execute them you do not use no more the proper latin way to do it -in the clavé- you have to remember that you are responsable of what you show to those beginners out there who like what you do in all those comments. i play the bongo since 44 years so i really need to know if iwas wrong since the beginning. with respect

      Thank you very much for the comment! It is always interesting to hear comments from an experienced musician. Will you help me if you specify which variations you had in mind? Some styles of Latin American music can be played as 3-2 or 2-3. It depends a lot on the melody of the song. Therefore, I did not specify which Clave corresponds to the variations and limited myself only to the accompaniment of maracas. The rhythms shown in this video are mostly taken from textbooks, one of them was a book by Bob Evans.

      Thank you for your response. I did not express myself clear enough. Sorry about that. I am not talking about the kind of variations you play as it is a personal taste, not even the direction of the clave (even if I think you should have done it but ok..) I just wonder how it is possible to show variations on bongo while there is no bongo in rumba. Do you confirm or do you have infos that would help me in my studies on the subject ? With respect for your work have a good day.

    • @Drums-and-Percussion-Grooves

      There are some complications with the rumba style. We all know the folk Cuban style of Rumba Guaguanco performed on conga drums or just vegetable crates. But there was also an adapted Rumba performed by orchestras in restaurants - a variety version of it. There is also a Spanish (Gypsy) Rumba - a song with guitars, Cajon and sometimes with Bongos. Cuba combines many traditions: African drum culture, Spanish song culture and others from all over the world. In fact, a rumba is a party of neighbors in the yard, when everyone jams, sings and plays on whatever is possible. I am of the opinion, probably like the author of the textbook Bob Evans, that any style of music can be performed on bongos. You can easily take them with you and when there are no Congas drums at hand, why not play bongos? Naturally, this is not a traditional option - it is an adaptation of the rhythm.@@conga59
