Because the shade of the base colour tints the chrome. And wen you seal it with the right type of top coat (usually a led cured non tack gel top coat) it doesn't wash off. :)

It's really the technicians preference. It has nothing to do with anything being toxic. You don't have to wear gloves if u don't want to or u can if u want to. Or some salons want u to wear gloves and some salons don't want u to wear them. I don't wear them cuz they are uncomfortable. Plus the salon I work at Dosent like us to wear gloves. ☝🏼️

why do you use a buffer before placing a top? For mirror powder the top needs to be no wipe

chrome nails show imperfections so it's best make sure the surface is smooth before applying.

Why buff? I've had many gel manicures and they've never done that. :/
I think they do that because the polish they use has a tacky finish so for the chrome to stick have to buff it off.
That seems like a lot of different steps.
Sheila Tagg you really don't need that many steps to achieve this outcome...only for the gold mirror powder.
