Very misleading video, it took a gear puller to get the old adapter off of my mower shaft. Like this guy, someone omitted the antiseize. The key, adapter, and shaft had no wish to part company. I even tried holding a sandwich in one hand, it didn't help.
Hot damn, you saved me some work. My bolt sheared off in the adapter and I was gonna try to dig the bolt out. I had no idea it was so easy to replace. Thanks!

I hit something last friday and thought I sheared off my flywheel key on the upper end, pulled apart and key ok, but noticed (had blade removal tool installed on rim of mower underside (to keep blade from moving when attempting to loosen bolt that holds it on), was using this to apply the correct torque to the flywheel (54ft lbs) and noticed that the shaft was spinning even tho the blade was locked in place.. thought at first that maybe I broke the main drive shaft, luckily I did not, but when removed the blade, noticed that the star WAS sheared off.... a quick youtube search and I found your video. Only problem I have now is that I think that the internal keyway/key on the blade adapter may not be completely sheared off but bent as I am having a HELL of a time getting the adapter off.... it is NOT sliding ANY at all.. so this is my assumption.. may have to get a puller of some sort to pull it off... but at any rate.... much thanks for THIS video...
Where can you get a blade adapter that doesn’t come loose along with the blade. I tried three of them from Amazon and each one sheared off the star causing the bolt to fall off along with the blade with it running. Not fun.
I didn't have to remove the belt stay (or whatever it's called). Just had to put the belt over the side and hold it while turning the spindle so it rotated off. Thanks for this info since I was afraid I'd have to remove the motor first like older style lawnmowers. But this is easy as pie. Or is it cake? In this case it's easy as a sandwich.
The shaft has two woodruff keyways in in, and one regular long keyway... does the adapter have spring loaded keys i dont see where the keys , the male keys are to drive the adapter? Got mower with just the shaft.
I have the same star pattern shaft and blade, I even torqued it to its correct torque, but the blade continue to get loosen...I even made sure that it has both the washer and locknut in place and in the correct manner, but yet the blade continue to get loose
Sazon Man take the bolt off and slip that bad off and see if the shaft key is on there. There's a good chance it's on there, sheared off or just not seated properly.

Ted King I'd recommend getting it unstuck, as that will make it pretty hard to get it off the shaft. You best choices are either burger grease or heat. But you should cool yourself off with an ice cold brewski. Don't need you over heating while your outside working on the honeydo list!
Mine is unbelievably stuck. I can put my feet up to the bottom of the mower and pull with all my strength but nothing even budges. Do I need to twist it off or is it supposed to pull off?

check the blade adapter. the key inside is probably broken. you need to replace with new one.

There are two small notches and then a long notch how do I put the adapter notch on

texasabbott I don't believe so. It's designed to be a weak point to prevent damage to the crankshaft in the motor
the stars sheared off on a 2nd one and have only had the mower for 3 years... this part really doesn't last!
