    We used to live in Auburn, Washington years ago and Leavenworth was one of our favorite places to visit. It is beautiful at Christmas.
    It reminded us of a town called Frankenmuth in our home state of Michigan which is similar but Leavenworth is so much prettier because of the mountains. Thank you for stopping there.

    Don’t miss Anacortes, WA. We found the sweetest cafe there that had the best chowder after taking a whale watching tour.

      Oh cool! We have a RV park in our membership right near there in La Connor. So we will check that out whenever we end up visiting there!

    This video reminds me of the "Cars" movie. You may not know it very well if you don't have kids. In the movie, they talk about how the town of Radiator Springs used to be a bustling town where tourists would come, spend their time (and money) in their town on Rte. 66. But when the freeway was put in, people would fly through at high speeds and miss the town completely. There is so much history in these old towns. My suggestion is to interview a long time resident at a few towns along the way.

      We have seen Cars, but it's been a long time! We should watch it again! Thanks for the comment and suggestion!

    Leavenworth is a true tourist town but a fun and wonderful place to visit if you don’t mind crowds. Lots of events throughout the year. There are busses you can catch from a number of places especially in winter when there is snow.

    Glad you found the free lot - we stay there pretty frequently as a halfway point between western and eastern WA. Love Munchen Haus too! If you ever go back the little booth that sells Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and more is really good for a breakfast burrito - but share.... they are huge! And the 2 mile walk on blackbird island is heavenly in winter with snow on the ground! I don't know if you guys keep notes of places for future trips or not, but just east of Leavenworth is a town called Cashmere and it has a BBQ place - Country Boys BBQ..... worth the stop!

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the lot was a great and unexpected find! Makes sense you guys use it as a halfway point! When we get back we will have to try the breakfast burrito for sure! And thanks for the BBQ tip..... always keeping an eye out for good BBQ!

    Ah, yes! Leavenworth is awesome any season. Summertime you can float down the river on rafts. Winter, big Christmas light display. If you are headed north, I'd suggest Port Townsend, WA. Seaside town, unique shops, pizza, tea, and elevated ice cream shop! Fort Warden and Flagler also very interesting to explore. Need a Discover pass to get into both, I believe. Enjoy! Alsooo....must see Olympic Natn'l Park, if you have not yet.

    If you can get to up NW Washington, do it! Although it may be rainy this late in the year. La Conner, Anacortes, Port Townsend, the San Juan Islands ..... are all wonderful! Drive the NW passage along northern WA. Gorgeous!When Canada opens up, take a ferry across to Victoria and see the Empress Hotel, the parliament bldg lit up at night, Butchart Gardens (probably misspelled), and on and on ...... it’s all magical. You will love it, guaranteed! I also recommend Mt St Helens -Visit Johnston Ridge and Windy Ridge (summer only, I think) to see the volcanic devastation from 40 years ago. Jaw-dropping! And then there’s Mt Rainier. (I love WA.)

    Hey guys, glad you had a good time in Leavenworth. Thanks for posting a video of this fun little town. You may already be on the coast, but if you aren't yet, think about stopping in Port Townsend. We're a bit biased as we live there, but it is a fun place to hang out (northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula). If you still haven't headed to the coast, you might enjoy Rialto Beach (near La Push) has a great hike to the north (pay attention to the tides), Kalaloch, Ruby Beach, or the Hoh Rain Forest (very much worth the drive in). Not much cell coverage on this part of the coast of Washington. If you make your way down the WA coast, Cape Disappointment is a great place. Welcome to the Olympic Peninsula. Also, may or may not be visible in your research, but several of the tribal areas have been and still are closed due to the pandemic. Cape Flattery (furtherest NW point in the continental US) and La Push including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd beaches are open to tribal residents only. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! Thank you for all the great suggestions! The Olympic Peninsula is a special place! We would really like to see the rainforest and are going to try and make it to Hoh. We'll check out your other suggestions too!😃

    We visited there about...lemme think back, about 10 years ago. We actually saw very little of the town though. It was really crowded. I remember a store called “Black bird”. As far as other places out there to visit, Hurricane Ridge is beautiful (WA), definitely go to the Redwoods or Sequoia National forest (CA), Mount Rainer is also amazing (WA), The Hoh Rain Forest (WA) Be sure to indulge in any of the coffee hut drive thru’s in WA, the coffee is amazing!!! When we drove up to hurricane ridge, they gave me a chocolate covered coffee bean (sitting on my cup coffee! I didn’t even know what it was!)

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great suggestions, thank you! We really want to see hoh, because we did hurricane ridge last year but didn't have time for the rainforest. Agree the coffee ☕ is great over here!

    On the Oregon coast we visited a touristy town called Seaside; Up in Olympic National Park, definitely stop by Lake Quinault (the only rainforest in the continental USA from memory; nice hiking) as well as Kalaloch on the coast ...famous for it's lodge and restaurant. Quinault and Kalaloch are only minutes from each other. Here's the link to the Lama Ranch bed and breakfast between Mt Adam and Mt Hood. Oh and definitely visit Mt St Helens !! Remember well when it blew up.

    Next time go a little further north and cross the Cascade Mountains on Hwy 20. If you thought 2 was beautiful wait till you try 2. You will see amazing lakes and forests near the top. Make sure you spend the night up there. From there go to Anacortes as mentioned earlier than take a ferry to Friday Harbor. The ferry ride feels like you’re in the jurassic period. You can come back And take a super short hop down the coast to LaConner- tulip capital. Thenhead toward Seattle make sure you get to Pikes Place Marker and throw a fish. This area is iconic. You could take another ferry over to the peninsula and drive up to tip to Port Townsend and the to the NW coast to Vampire and werewolf land if you’ve read the books. The rawness of the coast up there is another “before time started” experience.Going south you can see the oldest biggest Cedars that you could ever imagine. Sounds Corny but I’m not kidding you could have a hoedown on top of one of the cut trees. If you don’t go to the peninsula but continue south from LaConner you don’t want to miss Mount Rainier. And further south you don’t want to Miss mount Saint Helens that blew 40 years ago. I am skipping other amazing towns and things to see. This state is amazing and if you don’t plan a couple of weeks here next time it would be sad. Or, do it now! You are about two weeks later then would be Prudent as the weather has started going to rain.

    • @IreneIronTravels

    Ok, first the caption for Teddy “that wasn’t my poop! Really!” Spontaneity is good. It’s taken me to 60+ countries around the world. We’ve lived in Vienna, Spain (where I met my wife of 38 years!), Kazakhstan, Nigeria, and of course in the USA. And we’ve taken our four kids along for the ride. I can tell you, you’ll love Munich and Bavaria when you get around to shipping your sprinter to Europe. I’m in Germany now on one last business assignment ...and alas... Oktoberfest was canceled this year due to Covid. You might think I killed off my internal wanderlust but, five months from retirement we learned our LTV will be born on December 20th! Time to wonder the USA and head up to Alaska! Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!

    Another great video! Really enjoyed seeing your view of Leavenworth WA, looks like a neat little town. Spent 12 years living in Germany so I really enjoyed the music (nice job Aaron) and the sights you shared. Oh yea, Teddy says, "why are you wearing that silly mask?" Enjoy your travels and be safe out there!

      Thanks! 12 years in Germany, sounds fun. We plan on visiting more of Europe in the future. We have seen Greece and France together, but Chris did one semester in England during college.
      I'm surprised someone didn't mask up Teddy!

      @@IreneIronTravels Getting a pleasureway Ascent sprinter. Expected it in early November but not it will be in late December. Where are you going after the hood canal? If you like towns, go to Port Townsend.(From there you have lots of choices - the ferry to coupeville and on to Deception Pass Park. Or around the peninsula but that is soooooo long. Or the Hoh river. Or you can go toward the ocean and head for Astoria (goonies). Oregon coast is amazing but check the weather. I heard some bad weather is coming there. Best state. (what is your rig?)

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exciting! PW Ascents are beautiful rigs! Have had a lot of votes for Port Townsend and Deception, but plan on going towards Hoh and the coast. Then we will travel south. Thanks for the heads up on Oregon, we will keep an eye on it. Our van is an 2014 Airstream Interstate dual wardrobe model. Thanks for the suggestions!

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there, good question! Irene Iron Fitness is our business that we started when we left our corporate jobs and became full time RVers. Chris is a certified fitness and nutrition coach and I (Aaron) run the back office. We never really knew what was going to come out of TH-cam, so we just kept our business name. We thought about changing it early on to a "RVing type" name, but could never decide on one! We are glad we kept the name as that is our main business and I think it sets us apart from the crowds of RV/Van channels. Thanks for watching!

    I don’t want to sound like a snob here, but as a Dutchman and neighbor to Germany I'll have to say this town looks as if Walt Disney designed it :) Doesn't look like an authentic German settlement, or is it? However it's beautifully situated between the mountains and looks like a fun place to visit once when passing through (like you guys did). While poor teddy is about ready to quit on life.

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're probably not far off, from who designed! It is not an authentic German settled town, from what I read. It was inhabited by native American tribes and then settled by early pioneers. After a big boom, it then went bust and revived by this Bavarian themed town. It is set in beautiful "alpine" looking mountains that might have inspired them. Popular american tourist small town, but its kinda in the middle of nowhere. Fun to visit, but understand your viewpoint as a Dutchman!
