Aaron is so into fitness that even when he is just sitting there in the passenger seat while traveling, he still moves around enough to maintain his gains. Likewise, even though he let Chris take the hard route up the dune, and gave her like a 30 second head start, he still beat her by a step or two. Skipping leg-day is what gave him the edge he needed to claim victory, and he shall cherish it, forever more. Aaron is a boss.
I have multiple security cameras on the outside of my van giving me 360 coverage. I was parked at Wal-Mart, about 10pm - plenty of cars and activity. And I notice a car obviously "casing" my van. It'd park next to me on one side for a few minutes, slowly drive away, park on the other side of me, slowly drive away - then it'd circle around me for a few minutes. I got everything ready inside - quietly - and moved up front. Had everything ready so I could go from starting the engine to driving in just a few seconds. As my rig springs to life and drives away, two guys get out of the car and just stare at me. I haven't been to a Wal-Mart since, even for groceries at daytime. And I archived the video off my security camera system so I still have it.
Oh man! Scary. It's a good thing you were aware of it. I really wanted to get a 360 degree camera system when I was first researching this lifestyle. It would be so nice to see all around in situations like that. I feel like I would be watching it all the time though!
@@IreneIronTravels I love my system and couldn't imagine life without it. My setup is based off a home security system for a maximum of 8 cameras. I've got a screen up front I can watch while I'm driving, and it's hooked into the factory TV in the back. And yes it's on most of the time. I love being able to have all my blackout shades up, but have a single screen I can look at and see exactly what's going on around me. Cuts down on what lot of stress. Since it records, I'm also able to use it as a "dash cam" in case something happens while driving. Thankfully nothing has happened to me, but I have saved all few clips of crazy things I've seen.
I worry about this situation too. I wonder if there’s some sort of system where you could install lights all around the van and be able to switch them on from inside the van. Sometimes, flooding the area with light will deter people. Motion detection lights would be good too, but animals set them off all night in the campground.
That's a good thought Joyce. If I were to build a van out I would put a roof rack up top and attach cameras and lights on all four sides. Along with an alarm/siren that all could be activated remotely even if we were not in the van.
When the wind storms hit out here (I am in El Paso), it does kick up lots of dirt and sand until you can’t see. I love White Sands, being so close is a great gift.
Wow !! White , white sands. So beautiful to see it. This was a great to see this video and the adventure that the two had driving on the New Mexico sands . It’s nice to see that the two of you enjoy the same thing that makes it a pleasure to watch both of you and to add your comments on the area . Thank you for sharing this beautiful video and taking the time of making it !! Also thank you for always responding to my email which I also look forward to . BS & BK
We love this area. Checkout Cloudcroft, just 8000 ft up the mountain from Alamogordo. As full time RVs we make our goal to return at least once each year.
Great video guys! Your film quality and camera presence has improved so much from your earlier videos. I’ve been waiting for a video on the white sands of New Mexico. It really looks like a winter day here in Canada 🇨🇦. Thank you guys.
Thank you, really appreciate the kind words. It truly is repetition, practice, and then comes the comfort level that just makes it become easier and less stressful. It was hard for us to start doing these videos at first, but we have had a blast with it growing into it! Thanks Gary!
Hi Chris and Aaron!! Wow....this place looks stunning!! Of course, I've heard of White Sands, but haven't really looked into the place yet. You said it.....it is like you are out in a snow field. Either that, or you expect to see some ocean waves lapping up just around the next corner. Awesome hike!! I have a long hair german shepherd....he is down for everything adventure!! Snow.....sand.....woods.....leaves. He had a blast when we camped at Great Sand Dunes N.P. last year. But, by 10am, I needed to get him off the sand as it was getting hot. No doubt, he'd love White Sands! Hmmm...so White Sands closes at night? Great Sand Dunes lets you roam around at night, i believe. thank you for sharing this and safe travels!!
Hello!! Yes White Sands closes at 7 which is too bad, but they had a moonlight hike that you could do some how. I think most NP's are open 24/7 , but there is no camping here, so maybe that's why. We'll have to check out Great Sand Dunes sometime!!
@@IreneIronTravels Ok...very fun. I love hiking under full moon here in the CO mountains! Yes....kind of a bummer that they close. Oh well. Yes...Great Sand Dunes are pretty much what these White Sands are, except it is traditional tan color sand. And, it seems the Great Sand Dunes actually go up and up. I think the biggest ones are about 700ish feet or so. We stayed at the Sand Dunes RV and Pool campground, which was recommended by Driven & Vibin. It has a pretty popular pool; which is great for the summer time! Also, in this area is the UFO Watchtown, a quirky and cheesy UFO display (only takes 15 minutes to see or so...and they do let you boondock camp there for a small fee), the Penitente Canyon hike and campground (the campground is free. The hike eventually has a painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe painted high up on the canyon wall. And, on the south side of that San Luis Valley, there is the small town of Antonito, which is both an incredible drive to Chama, NM, but also has a narrow gauge train to Chama, as well. If you take the train, I recommend taking the train in 1 direction and the shuttle the other. Riding the train both ways is a LONG day. Here's an article covering the Penitente Canyon hike: www.colorado.com/articles/hidden-colorado-gem-penitente-canyon And, Crestone, CO, just north of the Great Sand Dunes, is an eclectic place to visit. It is the confluence of many religions influences, meditations, etc. When in doubt, at least visit the Crestone Brewery hehehe Of course, you can only do the Great Sand Dunes after you come visit Ouray!!! Safe travels!!
Sand kicks my butt. I guess there's a reason the footprints go away after a couple hills lol. I like that you can feel so isolated out there. I've got to put this one on my list.
We just missed you. We were there around March 3rd. So wonderful. We also did the 5 Mile stretch but it was more like 6 for us as we did a lot of longer loops to avoid too much climbing.

Very cool looking park! Is there camping near by? Also, I would be nervous about the sand getting into the gears, chains, etc, on the eBikes. Did the sand blow up into the bikes?
