What 15 Handicap Golf actually looks like

  • Can I break 90? - EVERY SHOT IN 18 MINUTES
A round of golf at Rhuddlan golf course in North Wales. It's a par 72 hole course that was 6260 yards from the men's yellow tees.
The green fee was £20 for a twilight round in March 2022. They were trying out a new order of holes at Rhuddlan on this day. Apologies as this has scrambled up the scorecard a bit. This new layout is now confirmed and will be played from April 2022 onwards.
I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off an 15 handicap. I had taken 3 golf lessons to improve my swing on the day of play.
I'm looking to continuously 90 after taking some golf lessons. Even if I don't shoot a good score I always enjoy strolling around the fairways of North Wales, UK :-)
    Todays course: rhuddlangolfcl...

Playing a hero shot usually adds 2 to my score, one day I will loose my " 1 foot shot in 98 will make my round" mentality, and enjoy breaking 90 with 50 under control shots.

Thanks James, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE Rhuddlan GC !
The very first course where I "Broke The Ton" back in My 20's, with a handsome 96.
In My mid 60's now and on My first ever return there, two years back, following a foolish 25 year lapse from any Golf, I managed a 96 again.
I'll be back to Beautiful Rhuddlan again this summer of 2022.
Hopefully with rounds at Maesdu and Mold.
Nowhere offers such stunning Golf Courses at such throwaway Green Fees as N Wales.
Thankfully, from N Liverpool We get "Englands Golf Coast" AND Cymru to choose from within 90 minutes drive.
Also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED St Deiniol, Hawarden.

@@notaperfectgolfer3489 Around here We have literally scores of Courses, from decent "Munis" to exorbitant "Royal Links". a single round on Merseyside ranges from just £9 up to £275. (eg. Arrowe Park, where a 16 yr old Peter Alliss qualified forhis first Open Championship is a truly beautiful Municipal Course returning to it's former glories and just £16)
My "Home Club", Mossock Hall, is a great example of the beautiful South Lancashire countryside. No pushover at slope126 but even a poor round is still set in tranquil, almost silent surrounds and copious varied wildlife. £25 as a Members Guest is almost on N Wales scale of Great Green Fees.

Getting older ( 70 ) , I have lost distance with all clubs. Hitting greens in regulation on longer holes is difficult. This is when you become more dependent on the short game. I have difficulty with those little chip shots near to the green, lack of confidence and can't seem to overcome the fear factor. Keep at it James, it is a great hobby but sometimes very frustrating.

Well definitely a round of 2 halves! Your lag putting is great and you never seem to leave it much more than a few feet each time. As mentioned your short iron play was fantastic and the pw was on fire. The greens were very bobbly which you coped with well. You seem to lack a bit of confidence with the short putts as I did a year ago. I spent hours and hours on the putting green hitting 2,3 and 4 foot putts until I had a near on 100% record. Might be worth giving a go! Apart from the couple of disastrous holes pretty good mate. Keep up the good work.

James, I know you aren't thrilled with a 91, but boy, was it well earned. From holes 15-18, your short game was very solid and hey, on that bunker shot on 17 where you skulled it into the face, that was honestly a very good strategy 😂. The sand underneath looked pretty hard and for me whenever the sand is rock hard I always just hit it low like a normal chip shot. Some very solid iron strikes and hybrid strikes as well to keep the longer par fours under control. I can see low 80s in you dude. Keep up the good work. 👍⚔️

Your distance control on your putts is what stands out to me in your game, you hardly leave them short and when you go past it's not that far past which is great. If you can learn to read greens better your score will go down and if you can fix that slice you could possibly gain 20 yards on your drives which will aid in lowering your scores.

Quick question, James. On 14 you hit a nice 4 wood, 150 yards and straight.
On your next shot you used a hybrid from 154 out and came up 20 yards short of the green. Any particular reason why you didn’t use the 4 wood again?

    • @notaperfectgolfer3489
      @notaperfectgolfer3489  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes no worries, I can't hit the 4 wood as straight as the hybrids so could potentially lose the shot out a long way to the right.
The approach shot on 14 from 154 yards was slightly downhill too. I had to guard against going long so played the hybrid which normally goes 140-155 yards. This actual shot had a slightly heavy contact from the rough losing distance which was still a good miss and better than being left or right in a greenside bunker.
Hope this explains everything a bit more! Thanks for watching

Just like me. Got to get better inside 6 feet and gir. And we would probably be a single digit handicap

The snowman rattled ya, didn’t it? It didn’t help your putter was cold as ice. Good round. You would have easily broken ninety with a few better breaks. Curse my eyes, James: that 22° has NEVER gone left. Ever! You hit it straight about a third of the time and the rest are going right. Aim left, James! Play the odds! 🤣 All in all everything was fine. Good round. When the greens are slow, consider hitting a club or two up. Coming up short on greens as many times as you did will drive you nuts after a while.

Yeah, that was me Warren. I'm completely sunburnt with all the nice weather we've had recently. Silver Birch is a great little course for sharpening up the iron play and short game. Vid will be posted in 2 or 3 weeks. Say hi next time as long as I'm not standing over a 6-footer! haha :-)

Only one bad hole .take time when your putting you seam to be too straight when putting and looks like not completely over the ball when striking maybe stand at a bit of an angle this may help with sighting the ball and lining up but well played

Why is every bunker you go in perfectly raked under your ball?

The course order is changing at Rhuddlan meaning the scoreboard was scrambled up at the end. It was very confusing for me to! :-)

Well done again James in not losing your head after a few awkward holes!! It can be all too easy to lose your rag n start smashing your way around the rest of the course!! Enjoyed it once more!🏌️🏌️👍👍
