The way I understand it, the song is written in the point of view of the mother who is being called “frozen” or “cold” for her actions despite her good intentions of saving her daughter. She is trying to explain that the daughter or even the public will not fully understand her choices as it’s based in the strict Victorian time period. This is pointed out in the video where she writes to her daughter asking for forgiveness and explaining herself before she is carried off to presumably be executed. She is heartbroken for taking the sacrifice for her daughters future, but she knew it was her only choice to save her from the abuse. It’s a sad story of sacrifice for a child, misunderstanding and abuse to those vulnerable especially children. It’s such a powerful song which had a very important message to tell
This band is criminally underrated!!! They blow away many of todays so called pretend bands.

Domestic and alcohol abuse is never funny. Such a beautiful video from Within Temptation. This video captivated my mind and attention. Frozen is such a hauntingly beautiful song and it gave me the goosebumps.

I heard this song when I was 18 years old. Now I’m 34 and I’m also flying into space. There were times when the topical was presented without vulgarity, as it really is in combination with amazing music. Now I’m not ashamed to say that I’m old and in my time there was such high-quality and soulful music!

The fact that i was listening and venting to these type of songs before i was fully aware of the true extent of the situation i was in, makes them hit even harder now. Realizing just how much i relate to a song that i already loved for its capability of resonate with my unwellness and discomfort makes me wanna shake people by their shoulder, give them a warning to always trust their gut cause deep down you have the capability to know if you're in a toxic enviroment or not, you just have to stay in tune with and check on yourself like you would for a friend of a loved one. Take care and don't worry if you feel Frozen, stuck in place incapable of moving out of forward: you'll find a way out of the gutter eventually. Just don't give up please

You speak truth. The issue is that the abuse gets "normalized" to the point when you don't even consider it "abuse" just something regular... even though it's killing your soul, messing up your mental health and tearing your heart apart. When the offender does not want to acknowledge his transgressions that is when you need to pack your bags and go.

I haven't listened to this song in years and yet, I still remember the lyrics. That alone speaks volumes about how powerful this song is.
I just love this song. It's sad, melancholic, painful, yet so beautiful and touching. I'm in love with this band since I was 12, and I love them still, after 8 years later.
One of the best songs of their career. This melody is timeless. I don't listen to rock everyday but this song sounds the same way after all this years.

The worst part of my childhood in this video! I have an alcohol addict stepfather who was always hurt me. That's why i have a really bad time when i was a teenager,i'm stealing things from market's , i dont have any friends and nearly tried cocain but before that happens i meet a guy who is worked in a Tattoo Studio. He helped me, i learned him to createing tattoo's and set piearcing's. Then my stepfather died some months ago and i tried to forget that part of my life. I'm happy with my job, i'm working with that guy in that Tattoo Studio! :' )

This song reminds me of my brother. He was put in a very bad situation and ended up giving his life to protect the ones he loved (wife, kids, parents, siblings). This song hits so different now because of it.
