      Showrunners basically said "oh, did us taking the sweetest, most wise animated grandpa figure for you and breaking him down into tears break you? Well in case it didn't, let's take a big fluffy lovable animal who you've already seen be kidnapped and haven't seen since now be put through multiple forms of animal cruelty to the point of not trusting humans and then being kidnapped and imprisoned again!"

    Poor Appa going through so much and all to just get back to Aang. This episode honestly made the separation even more heartbreaking. The promise to always be together broken and how they both dreamt of each other...
    I also loved how despite Appa being a non-talking character, there's still so much emotional depth to everything in this episode.

    Avatar came out when I was in college and watched a lot of anime (often bootleg because the vast majority of anime wasn't even licensed for the USA). Most of my friends (and my) reaction was to say that Avatar "is a really good dub of an anime" because kids cartoons from the USA weren't this deep and we were used to dubbing companies carefully editing out "adult" themes like death and alcohol from anime because "cartoons are for kids". Then we were all flabbergasted that this is an English cartoon that was first run airing on Nickelodeon.

    Air is actually one of the most dangerous elements but Aang would never use it in a lethal way even if he knew how. You can take the air from people’s lungs and stop them breathing and his attacks are almost invisible and could carry needles or blades to cut them along with blow them away. This is canon things airbenders could do. But airbenders aren’t warriors but monks and don’t seek violence. Through achieving enlightenment it is said airbenders can fly without gliders and float and fly freely but this requires detachment from earth which they gave up to be with the air bison whom bond for life and keep airbenders attached to the world and not flying around like supermen

    I am happy to see Maddie here seems or appears to understand hopefully or already of Appa and Aang's strong and unbreakable bond, friendship and general relationship before the Hundred Year War and since Aang and Appa were way younger than they are even in The Storm episode flashback or backstory, before Aang became an airbending master and got his airbending master tattoos because of his original invention and mastery of the air scooter, and it also seems or appears that she now hopefully or already understands why Aang thought, spoke, acted and behaved the way he did in The Desert episode with Toph, the rest of the team, and with the sandbenders, with his sudden lost of Appa, which is not just his pet, but also his only actual connection to his people, ethnicity, nation and nationality, the air temples, and his culture, customs, beliefs, traditions and spirituality as an Air Nomad and a monk, all before the Hundred Year War, and that also has a strong and unbreakable bond, friendship and general relationship with him, all before he met Katara, Sokka, Momo and Toph.

    I think what you guys forget with the discussion about airbending being about escaping, is only in terms on combat. That said, the fact that air is EVERYWHERE makes it the most dangerous element, especially if you can control how it works. Could easily make people's lungs explode. Then again, water bending and firebending and earth bending can go just as deep too.

    • @danielgardner3601
      @danielgardner3601 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Air is not even close to the most dangerous bending. People act like getting hit by a boulder and caving in your chest would be a walk in the park. Or getting electrocuted or flame throwered to death would be any less brutal. And water is by far the most OP that it’s practically a joke. Literally all of them you’re dead if you just let a bender do whatever they want to you

    • @Suto_Ko
      @Suto_Ko ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You're absolutely right that airbending, especially when mastered, can be incredibly powerful and dangerous. The ability to manipulate the air around you, which is an essential element for life, can be used in a variety of ways to harm others.
      As you mentioned, a skilled airbender could potentially suffocate someone by removing the air from their lungs. They could also use air currents to generate powerful gusts of wind that could cause serious injury or even death. Additionally, airbending could be used to create sonic blasts that could rupture eardrums or even cause internal damage.
      While other bending arts like waterbending, firebending, and earthbending also have their own unique and destructive capabilities, airbending's pervasiveness and versatility make it particularly dangerous. The fact that air is everywhere means that there is no escape from it, and a skilled airbender could potentially unleash their power from a distance without even being seen.
      Of course, the ultimate danger of any bending art depends on the intentions of the bender. In the hands of a benevolent and skilled airbender, these powers can be used for healing, rescue, and protection. However, in the wrong hands, airbending can be a devastating weapon.

    • @CRAZEH247
      @CRAZEH247 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielgardner3601 Air can be manipulated to negate all of what you've mentioned. If you have no air, none of those will work.
      High air pressure can turn earth into dust.
      Fire, water, and electricity also cannot exist without oxygen.

    • @thekamotodragon
      @thekamotodragon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielgardner3601 I agree that if we take each element to their extremes, then water is the most op, followed by air (flight). Water is the most flexible and it has the best hidden ability. But for the average bender who doesn't know any of the OP hidden techniques, then i feel like earth or fire are the best for average combat.

    • @pimentx3253
      @pimentx3253 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielgardner3601 None of that would be a walk in the park, realisticly any element bending could kill a person easily(like you just describe it), however the main differene is that their attack has to get the person before it could kill them, and it requires a exeternal source(except for firebending and bloodbending but we will get to that) Air is already around the opponent all the person has to is suck the oxygen out of their lungs and that is game over. Even a super lightining attack from Azula could be blocked (like Toph did it) or dodged. Unless the opponent is a bloodbender/ a fully realized avatar, or a masterairbender there is really no counter to this.

      @@CRAZEH247 Aaaah, cap… but that’s your take.
      I believe that the writers left hints to Azula’s inner pain and humanity.
      In “the beach”, when she looks deeply into the fire and says “my own mother thought I was a monster…” she is truly saddened by this reality, before quickly snapping back into her psychotic protective bubble, conditioned by her father and herself through his praise.
      Then, her mental breakdown allowed her suffering to seep through the cracks. She is still scarred from a lack of her mother’s love (which once again conflicted with her father’s praise, forcing her to repress her pain).
      I believe that if Zuko found his mother and she spoke with Azula (over many months) and Zuko and the Gaang put faith in her, allowing her to rejoin the family (probably without her bending initially), she could be redeemed.
      (Bit of a rant but I am passionate/ invested in Azula because so many hate her “toxic” personality and overlook the depth in her character. She also has an unparalleled, chilling and invigorating screen presence)

    • @Puckett.
      @Puckett. ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I dont think Azula can be redeemed. We see in flashbacks that she was always a terrible child. She only 14 for the majority of the show but we've seen enough of her for me to safely say that's just who she is. Zuko always struggled in his defined role because it wasn't who he truly was. Azula flourished in her role because it suits her she was exactly the kind of child Ozai needed. Azula gets opportunities for redemption in the comics and it never lasts. She always turns bad when she gets an opportunity.
