Sheikh I've posted a thread on Twitter/X about the history of Imam Shamil and the Influence of the Naqshbandiyya a few months ago I want to continue writing better threads sharing Islamic caucasian history InshaAllah. By the way Sheikh Murad Osman is my cousin and my brother have met you as well!

The Dagestan War is the longest military conflict involving the Russian Empire. It lasted, sometimes flaring up, sometimes dying down, for exactly 60 years. The Russians have never fought with any country for so long. The Iranian Empire was afraid of them, the Turkish Empire did not want to deal with the Russian Empire. The Russians subjugated Georgia and Armenia and Azerbaijan. But they had a problem with Dagestan. The first Imam of Dagestan was Gamzat-Bek, the second Imam Gazi Muhammad, the third Imam Shamil. In our city of Derbent, 33 Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) are buried.

Imam Shamil is like for the casuals
If you want to know the real bad ass warriors and warrior scholars of the Kavkaz region then look no further than the following:
Baysangur Benoivsky of Chechnya - he pledged allegiance to Imam Shamil. Baysangur fought to his last breath and made the last stand with his band of warriors even when Imam Shamil had long submitted to the will of Russia.
Baysangur continued fighting many years with a missing eye, hand and leg.
    Imam Mansur of Chechnya
    Hadji Murad of Dagestan

A less-known fact is the Circassian genocide which Imam Shamil tried to prevent by getting the 12 tribes to unite and fight the Russians.
The Circassians were famous because the women were sold into slavery in the Ottoman, Russian, and Persian empires and the men were the famous Mamluks. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Circassians
Many of them settled in Amman Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey and even India!!
