John and Yoko made an event of the session- dressed in matching Santa costumes- Brought Phil Spector, invited the Harlem boys choir to sing on it. Also rented a huge Times Square billboard with “War Is Over” - Happy Christmas, John and Yoko
The best Christmas song ever because it said 'war is over if you want it' and as a 16 year old worried about going to Vietnam it was a welcomed message… Another great song from 1971 the best year in music
My favorite Xmas song by a pop/rock star. It's beautifully produced and sends a lovely message. And over 50 years later, the song is still painfully relevant, as we approach this Yuletide with two awful wars raging overseas. 😞
This dropped when I was a little kid and absorbing Christmas songs like a sponge. The haunting children's choir parts are indelibly stamped on my brain, despite of, or maybe perhaps because of, the melancholy of the melody reflecting the seriousness of the anti-war protest tucked into the song.
The only song that Yoko’s voice actually contributes to the overall sound in a positive way! Great song by John Lennon. He was such a cynic regarding religion but he left the world a beautiful Xmas song.
Thank you for doing this song, it's my favourite Xmas song( and I'm not really a Christmas person). You're right, there's a special positive vibe around this time of year! Yes that's his wife Yoko singing the chorus. It brings me to tears hearing John's voice
Demonstrates Lennon’s deep soul yet again. A simple Christmas ditty … becomes an anthem for all time. Without love, there is no art. < Nietzsche God the world misses him. He could have been writing music for another 50 years.
The beginning of the song is... Happy Christmas, kyoko (Kyoko Chan Cox is the daughter of the Japanese multimedia artist and singer, Yoko Ono.) Happy Christmas,Julian (Julian Charles John Lennon is an English singer, songwriter, photographer, filmmaker, author, and philanthropist. He is the son of Beatles member John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia, and he is named after his paternal grandmother, Julia Lennon. )
Leave it to John to write a deep and meaningful Christmas song. Love it. Paul McCartney also made a popular Christmas song called Wonderful Christmas Time
@haranbanjo8024 The lyrics are completely different than Stewball. It's the lyrics that make it deep and meaningful. There's no need to try to cut down one artist over another. This isn't a competition
@@alrivers2297 Lennon didn't believe in Jesus, so that lyrics aren't deep, cause for no war and only have peace you only need to believe in Jesus, cause He Is THE Peace, and The TRUTH
@@alrivers2297 songs for peace never work, cause the devil (and people who serve him) didn't care about singers and songs and everything about peace! Only Jesus can destroy the war and the devil! Lennon was an iphocrit man cause meanwhile he sang about peace, he has the war in his heart (vs his wife and son Julian)! He negletted Jesus and the thrue peace and love.
Thank you for this one, a Christmas classic. This one makes me happy and sad at the same time thinking of John at Christmas when I hear it. Future Lennon "Cold Turkey" about his heroin withdrawal, you can feel his pain. Very powerful and trust me Biz, a must listen. Also "Mother" about his mom and dad abandoning as a young child. Again, you feel his pain and anguish. A must listen. "God" great song. From his Double Fantasy Lp which is the one with "Starting Over" which you enjoyed. "Watching The Wheels" and "Woman". One more from his " Imagine" Lp. "Jealous Guy" with video. Great Track. John was a very complex individual. A lot came from his mom and dad ditching him. He was born in 1940 and his dad was in the merchant marines during WW11, he was always at sea and after the war was pretty absent and mom turned him over at age five to her sister Mimi. John's aunt Mimi raised him while his mom lived just a few miles away. Just when John began to reestablish a relationship with her again one night she stopped by to visit Mimi on her walk home a drunk off duty cop ran her over and killed her. I think the trauma of losing his mom twice and an absent dad may have played a large role in his development in becoming the genius artist he became. Please make a note of those songs, you'll dig them. I would do the first two first, powerful stuff. Forgot to mention, he was 17 when his mom was killed and his best friend Paul McCartney who was 15 lost his mom to cancer a year earlier at age 14. I think these tragic events really bonded the two which led to a lifetime friendship and unique admiration for one another like blood brothers. Peace ❤
There is another Christmas song by Greg Lake from Emerson, Lake, and Palmer that I thought was pretty good, but a lot of people didn't like it. Yoko and John cut an album called the Plastic Ono Band.
Gotta do TOM PETTY’S “ Christmas All Over Again”…this and Lennons song are the best Christmas songs ever imo…Blues Traveler has a good Christmas song too
Happy Christmas, Biz! Check out his tune Borrowed Time. It was written close to his passing but released a few years later. Heavy lyrics. 💙 I’d recommend checking out A Christmas Song by Dave Matthews. Feliz Navidad, Amigo!
This song is protest song against war there is a emotional video of the song it shows war victims with song in the background it will make tears come to your eyes especially now with gaza and Ukraine going on find it on TH-cam and watch it and you will understand the song

Me too I was scared to death to possibly going then Nixon stopped it
Lennon copied Stewball song
Lovely song and message. I wish we could say "Happy Xmas- War is Over". Sadly tonight there are many people living in fear. Rest in Peace Dear John.💔
Harlem children's choir singing their little hearts out.. watch the video if you can find it..
Absolute classic Christmas 🎄 song 🎵
Only John could combine Christmas and war and make it work.
It isn’t Xmas time until you hear this song. A true classic Christmas song….
I guess Its Xmas time now
Lennon copied Stewball song
@@haranbanjo8024 I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info…
It's a brilliant song, but hey it's John Lennon so never expected anything less than this masterpiece.
My thoughts exactly ☮♥️

My lovely John. Missed always. this is a great song and has a great little film to go with it.

Not the only song, actually.
It became in instant classic. Brilliantly done!

Iconic. One of my fav Christmas songs. From Lennon I recommend Nobody Told Me.
One of the few Xmas songs I can tolerate
Don’t forget The Kinks’ “Father Christmas”, a punk rock Christmas song from 1967, 10 years before punk rock supposedly existed.
The Kinks dropped "Father Christmas" in 1977, the same year the Sex Pistols dropped their debut album.
Always tears me up. The sentiment has never been attained but has there ever been a better one? Happy Christmas All ☮️
Everyone should know yhis Christmas song..is so meaningful..always my number one Christmas song.

Yoko actually makes quite a nice contribution to this song. She can sing quite well when she doesn't do the warbling thing.
Billy Sqire did a christmas tune, "Christmas Is the Time to Say 'I Love You'"!
Good one
Nice reaction. Please watch David Bowie and Bing Crosby duet LittleDrummer Boy
