Hi Jason and everyone, I checked with Dakota Pastels in Washington State and right now the Canson Mi-Tientes Velvet paper is only available in Europe. It will begin being rolled out in North America in October and Dakota plans to carry it. I have contacted the stores I use to ask them about stocking it when it is available in Canada.
Thank You so much for this Jason. I called Dakota Pastels in the USA and they said that it's only available in Europe right now and they hope to be selling it towards the end of October.
THANK YOU Jason. FINALLY someone has really made a stand. I am seriously tired of every singing the praises of Pastelmat without being completely honest with the drawbacks. The quality issues reminds me of how Prisma's pencil's quality has also declined over the years but refuses to fix and in the mean time people sing their praises and refuse to buy a different pencil. I am not going to spend $60 dollars a pad for paper and run a gamble that has these issues. I had bought 3 pads of paper and there were examples of this in all of them.
glad you found it of use - any defective pads contact clairefontain and tell them about it - their after sales is very good and I have heard of many people gettng replacements.
Just a note on Prismas. They were first produced in 1938 by a company called Eagle Pencil Co. which rebranded to Berol , While Berol owned and produced Prismacolor pencils they were the first “professional-grade” pencil on the market. They were the no. 1 pencil designers, architects, graphic artists, and art schools used. After Berol sold the Prisma brand/production the quality has continued to plummet as each new company takes over. Right now Prismas are under the Newell Brands umbrella. There are currently 39 brands under the Newell Brands umbrella. Only 5 or 6 are art materials, including Prisma. They also represent RubberMade and several other kitchen appliance products, office supplies, and several other non-art materials brands. The point (sorry it took the scenic route) is that Prisma is only 1 of 39 brands they represent. They sent production to Mexico and there is very little quality control. They don’t care if Prisma isn’t a big money maker for them because they make any loss up with other brands that do well. With any luck if the sales go low enough they will sell the brand to an art materials company and Prisma will hopefully become a professional-grade option again. It’s similar to what is happening with PastelMat. As long as Claire Fontaine was the “best” and had no real competition they could afford to have lapses in quality. Hopefully Canson can give them insensitive to bring PastelMat back to its original quality that we all fell in love with.
Thank you! I am so frustrated with my Pastelmat, having dropped a substantial sum for a large pad last year, only to get around to using it recently, and half the pad had deep flaws. I cannot believe paper that expensive has no quality controls. It’s great to have another option!
I’ve experienced the second issue more and more lately, like they have gotten skimpy with adding the texture. Very frustrating when I’m 3/4 finished with a work when I run across a bare patch. So grateful for your generous information.
Also the Canson sanded paper “touch” is wonderful. It can take alcohol, water, airbrush medium under painting without warping. It comes in big sheets that cost around $16 a sheet but you can get 4 good size paintings out of it. Its texture is consistent and you can get many layers on top. It’s grit is about the same as uart 600
Yes, I like this paper too for things I don't plan to do a ton of layers. Great for flowers. 😊 A little rough on the fingers if you use those to blend...I know I shouldn't but sometimes I can't help myself. 😅
I have spoken to jacksons in uk who say they are in discussion with canson regarding it after many inquiries and will let us know via newsletter on its arrival. 😊
Jackson's have a warehouse in Australia so I'm keeping my fingers crossed we get some. Unfortunately, a lot of the paper stocks aren't available from our local warehouse and the cost of postage makes it even more expensive.
Hullo Jason, thank you for sharing this sweet video full of information about this new paper! I have only tried a few sheets of Pastelmat and I have found UArt sanded to work better for the kind of painting that I want to do! Premier pastel paper is another sanded paper that I have found to work well with soft sticks and pencils too! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you Jason. I thought I was just unlucky with my pastelmat sheets, but you have talked about the exact same issues I've had over the years. I use Golden Pastel Ground to fill in the bald patches. The holes are a real nuisance. Thanks for the tip about using gesso. Can't wait to try out the Canson velvet.
This is amazing. In my country (Uruguay), Pastelmat isn't sold, and it costs a FORTUNE to bring in some pads just to paint decent pastel artwork. Great stuff by Canson to step up in this neglected art market
Jason - wanted to leave another msg for you- I just got an email from Dakota Pastel here in the US-they are going to start offering the Canson MT Velvet in Oct. Thank you for this video I am sure it helped make their decision! Just a perfect time to join your classes before the Holidays with some other options for paper! Kinda excited. I like Canson sanded grain for practice paper so I look forward to testing this out. The colors are beautiful. I use the Canson my touch MT but only for impressionistic work not a lot of details, it will be great to compare.
It seems like more than a few of us contacted Dakota Pastels as well as Blick. They must have been inundated. I actually spoke to a couple of people at Canson USA and they don't even have little samples.
Hi Jason, Thank you for all you do and share with us 🥰 (Best tutor and Tutorials on the planet) This is great news! I do love pastelmat but admit in a pad of 12 sheets there is usually 2 or 3 sheets that are flawed in some way (1 lines 2 with white pots etc) it is a major pain and too expensive to be flawed like that. I love being a patreon member of yours and i am looking forward to trying out this new paper.
Thanks Jason. I had to ask for Pastelmat at my art store for about 3 years until they said they had a few other people mention it... Im not sure if they had other people ask or if it was just me repeadely asking Lol. Finally they did bring it in but mostly in white. 😮 I couldnt complain but i did strongly encourage them to bring other colors, which they have and they cant keep it on the shelf of course. 😊 Glad to know there is another potential option coming. Canson really has upped their game even more the last few years and has several awesome papers available.
@@wildlifeartjm Yes, We're doing everything we can! We just launched this paper, and it always takes a bit long (too long for our taste) to find it in shops. ;-)
Very excited about this. The last pad of pastel mat paper had horrible scratches on every page. At $70 I put out for the pad I was incredibly disappointed. I love the paper when it is perfect but it is painful to pay for poor quality. Thank you I’m on the hunt now for the canson
Brilliant Jason!!! I too have been having many talks with Clairefontaine - in a zoom with their product and finance directors to try to work out what they could do to help with all the issues - for me as a coloured pencil artist I like pastelmat that's a bit smoother. Looking forward to trying this out to see if it will work for coloured pencils too :)
Many thanks Bonny, always great to hear from you my friend :O) Unfortunately my many talks with Clairefontaine never amounted to them being able to improve their quality and consistency of pastelmat surface and that is over 6 years ! The surface of this new paper is VERY similar to pastelmat brown (when its good) and not very fine like pastelmat white, but worth a try and it is a beautiful paper.
Pastelmat has always been my go-to paper but I found the quality issues lately very frustrating. I checked on the Canson site & am especially excited that it is available in rolls in the beige & grey colours 👏 so not limited to standard Pastelmat sizes. I’m going to try to get local art shops to order this paper. It sounds amazing. I look forward to trying it. Thank you so much for this video.
I ordered all my art supplies from Jackson's Art, hope they will bring in this new paper. 2 years ago I bought tons of pastel mat, Uart and the normal Canson Mi-Teins. I still have tons that I haven't use yet 😅. But thank you for sharing this info...when Jackson's Art bring them in, I will order them and try! 😊
I have gotten a weird shiny spot (two different paintings) my pastelmatt board that will not cover no matter what I do to the surface. It’s reflective and hard like it’s baked into the paper. I want to send you a picture of it, but I can’t seem to attach an image here sorry. Luckily Blick Art Supplies gave me a one time refund and sent me a new one for my trouble and sent it next day air. I was at that point under a time crunch and needed to start all over again. I did get the painting done in time but it still needed a bit more details I wasn’t able to complete. Just 3 weeks ago it happened again and I was able to cut a 1/3 of my painting off to save it. Thankfully 🙏🏻😅 I think the Canson Mi-Teintes Velvet launches in the USA in October there are some stores that are taking advanced sales beforehand. Thank you Jason for telling us about this new product- I need to use up my pastelmatt boards fist and try this new product- and looking forward to it. 👍🏻🥰
I love it. I’ve tried four different colours now and the feel is exactly the same on each one ( unlike pastelmat which varied ) also quality is 100% perfect. I love their selection of colours too - 14 to choose from. Readily available here in France thankfully and hope that uk USA suppliers will be stocking it soon too!
I agree - the surface is exactly the same on each sheet an dcolour I have tried so far and that has NEVER been lik ethat on pastelmat, the texture ALWAYS varies on each colour.
I hope it's easy to get in Canada eventually! It's next to impossible to get pastelmat here now, and it's really decreasing my ability to continue working in pastels.
Thanks so much for this video ! I just ordered a pad of the brown tones. A bit difficult to find a place to order online that delivers to Switzerland, but I found one! Can’t wait to use them once I receive them in around 7 days 😊
Glad I found this. I knew I could rely on you, I was about to buy some pastelmat... phew!. I'm in Australia and just searched for it and its reasonable priced. Cheaper than pastelmat
Someone further down said it's only rolled out in Europe atm. Ensure your paper has velvet written after mi tientes as they have other paper which is hopeless for multiple layers.
@@wildlifeartjm I use it with pastels only and so far I haven’t had problems to layer (a lot). I have tried it with coloured pencils in the past (I used to work exclusively with coloured pencils then) but I truly HATED it as couldn’t achieve what I aimed for. I much prefer HP watercolour paper to use with CP. It is complicated to judge as we all draw differently. What works for one person can be a total fail to someone else.
In the U.S., Dakota art supplies has a request page. I am putting that out here so that as many as possible can put in a request to be emailed when it’s in stock. If they get a lot of requests, then hopefully they will stock it.
Terrific news. I tried standard Mi Tientes and *did not* have a good time, bought Pastelmat but haven't used it yet. If Velvet is the new gold standard for both quality and consistency, everybody wins
I've had a sheet with that oddly smooth issue. It was a section, and it was the lower section, so I'd already done a full spaniel head in colored pencil, so I just did the best I could to make it work. It probably wouldn't have been possible if I were using pastels, but I was able to get enough down in CP to do the body of the dog.
Hi Jason! I love your videos,I don’t do wildlife or even use pastel, but I use colored pencils and do portraits. I started following you, since I’ve watched your video on how to print good reference pictures,I was looking for videos on how to do that, and I clicked on your video,I also was looking for a good inkjet printer, and I have my eye on the one you use. Your videos are inspiring to me,God bless. :)
Well that's brilliant news! As a colour pencil artist, I'm reaaaaally wanting something other than pastelmat. I've searched everywhere in the UK that I can think of and nobody has any 😭
I found the pads on Amazon Australia. Being an Aussie I was excited to find it and was going to buy it. Until I noticed the shipping advice which was approx 3-6 months. I’m not paying and waiting that long. I’ll contact Soft Pastels locally and ask if they will stock it as they have other Canson products.
I hope it’s as you say - I’ve lost more than 1 picture after finding an irreparable mark part way through a commission - when it’s in good condition I find pastelmat great - but if Canson is more reliable I’ll switch. Thanks Jason for all your valuable guidance over the years, you helped me switch to pastel.
its SO annoying when you get halfway through a drawing only to find pastelmat defective - I have only got 1 pad on Canson so far and the surface is perfect
Thank you Jason! I'm so glad to hear about the new velvet paper. Did you have any problems with the velvet paper becoming scratched or dented accidentally? I'm picturing a soft surface that could easily marred. And how well can you lift or erase mistakes?
I was really excited to try this new paper, but on Amazon it’s only $8 cheaper than Claire Fontaine Pastelmat. (canson is $71 and CF is $79). My local art store doesn’t even carry it yet. I’m hoping that this will change, but for now it’s way too expensive 😢
Thanks, Jason! It's great to have an alternative. I sent a request to Blick, where I get most of my supplies, to order it. Hopefully they or other suppliers will stock it soon.
I stock Pastelmat and have used it since it first came on the market and recently spoke to Clairfontaine regarding the lines, I told them where the issue is coming from , it’s. Really simple fix but for some reason they are still making the same mistake. It’s the glassine paper in the pads, it’s clearly warped and patterned and then gets put between each sheet of paper which then embosses the patterned lines into the paper, causing the problems. I suggested putting the glassine at the back of the pads to stop the impressions. But as they haven’t changed it I swapped to large sheets as it doesn’t happen with them.
it has just happened to me with a 100x70 cm paper after 15 hours of drawing, when I started to paint the paper is scratched, there are areas where the pastel is not fixed, I feel very frustrated.
Sounds like the quality of pastel mat has changed over the years. The brilliant artist Leslie Harrison has used velour paper from Dakota Pastel for years. Her work is absolutely gorgeous!
I wonder if you have tried the Sennelier mixed media pastel card? I get the impression that it's new, but not sure if that's just in my country. Apparently it's more durable and can take liquids well, also cork based.
But I know it. I have used sennelier pastel card for pastel pencils also. I found it to be too much grainy ... eats up too much pastel, even then the colour does not look that vibrant. Granularity should be reasonable -- not too much. That way pastelmat is better definitely... My experience only.
@abhijitbandyopadhyay8189 Do you know if that was this new one though, the waterproof one? Their usual pastelcard feels kind of gritty and lifts super easily if you as much as sneeze on it, but from what I've seen the new one feels smoother - more similar to pastelmat. I haven't tried it myself yet, but if it's comparable to pastelmat then it will be a cheaper option for artists in my country. Can't be certain we'll ever get the Canson velvet imported here, art market is pretty small.
I’ve tried the new sennelier one, the one that takes water or alcohol. It still feels like a sanded paper, nearest comparison would be Uart fine grade. Nice for loose stuff but nothing like pastelmat or the new Canson Velvet ( i’m the JM member who tried it that he talks about in this video 😊 )
@maxineedwards2055 ...in that case, thanks for bringing it to our attention! Meaning the Velvet. Hopefully there's enough interest that it becomes more available worldwide. Most products get better with some healthy competition; might even drive Carandache to actually fix their quality issues!
Does anyone know if you can paint wet media on this new canson paper? I like doing a layer or two of watercolour on pastelmat before going over it with pastels
Yes you can. I’ve used it with both a watercolour underpainting and alcohol underpainting. Worked perfectly with both and didnt warp! ( I’m in France, can get it easily so have been using it for a few weeks )
@@wildlifeartjm ow its exciting to try this canson velvet i hope it will be available soon worldwide! I had a problem with pastelmat the edge are curling/warping despite of its thickness. i bought it even if its so expensive. thank u so much sir Jason♥!
Hi Jason, thank you for this. I’m a coloured pencil artist and, like you , love using pastelmat . However, halfway through my latest commission I noticed the surface was like working on sandpaper in places - really disappointing! I’m really interested in this new Canson paper, do you happen to know if it would work well with coloured pencils too. Many thanks.
I dont do coloured pencils, so not sure . Bu tthe texture on this Canson is not smooth like th epastelmat white paper, but more like the pastelmat brown.
Is this the same as what used to be Mi Teintes Touch? They recently repackaged the pastel pape line. I was really annoyed because the normal mi teintes used to come in 30sheet blocs and now it only carries 20 but the price is the same if not more expensive.
No completely different surface to the touch, nothing like it at all. The feel to this VELVET on eis VERY similar to pastelmat. I tested the Touch years ago - not a big fan of it.
There's also the Art Spectrum Colourfix smooth, which I'm sure you'll have come across Jason. Almost identical to Pastelmat and seems to work as effectively with soft pastels. However, as I am an oil pastel user rather than a dry pastel user, the Colourfix smooth is awful for oil pastels, unlike Pastelmat. The oil pastels just slip around on top of other layers and blending is a nightmare.
I buy 500 grit wet/dry sandpaper from a really good paint store. Depending upon your style and if you use pencils or the soft pastel sticks .... I do abstract art so Mi-Tientes has been fine for me (no pastel pencils). I've also applied Golden and Art Spectrum pastel grounds to both watercolor and bristol paper, but they need to be taped down until the grounds dry. There are many TH-cam videos on these techniques.
I contacted Canson and in their reply email they said “the Canson team is excited to launch the new Mi-Teintes Velvet paper in the North American market in October 2024”. 🤞🤞
I don't think it is a qualitycontrol issue. Why are the older sheets of pastelmat better than the newer ones? Is it a new machine that is malfunctioning? I don't think so. I think the problem lies in the same machine that was working perfectely 5 years ago, but now is running too old and wears off. Now is the time for Clairfontane to replace the old machine for a new one. And they don't want to make the investment. It will cost a lot and why should they, if they have a monopoly on the product? I am glad there is gonna be some competition. When people are not buying pastelmat anymore because of poor quality, they will be forced to adress the issue. For me Mi teintes is too expensive right now. Hopefully when people are buying more of it the price will drop a little. We will see how the battle between the two will turn out. Thx Jason for trying this out for us. Great job 👍👍👍
Hello Jason, your videos are very interesting. Congratulations. Have you tasted the paper HAHNEMUHLE VELOUR 260gr 10 colors (24x32cm or 30x40cm). This paper can be used for pastel. Sorry for my poor english I am french. Thank you for your response. Martine
The Canson Mi-Tientes Velvet is not available anywhere in the USA. They have the regular Mi-Tientes and the sanded version, not the "velvet". Hopefully it will be here end of October or November.
Jason! Thank you for bringing this new product to our attention. Perhaps it will be better than Pastelmat, and maybe a bit less expensive?(🤞🤞🤞!)? Anyway, I went to Canson's website and found it, but I didn't see any way to buy it from them directly☹️. I am in the States, so I checked Blick, Jerry's Artorama, Jackson's USA, Cheap Joe's, the Art Warehouse and Michael's. Nada. Zilch. I also contacted Blick and asked them to consider carrying it. Please let us know if you get any new info on this product.
I really do NOT like Pastelmat. I tried it once, never again. I love Uart 400 the best. Always works for me w/o any problems. I don't have trouble with it curling up either as I do not use a lot of water in my underpainting.
The last time I bought PastelMat was over a decade ago and it was wonderful. Quite disheartening to know that quality control has gone downhill especially since their cost is absolutely bonkers.
@@wildlifeartjm 6 years???! Wow, I am glad I didn't pick up a new pack at Blick after someone sent me Pan Pastels (My old Pastelmat went to a former friend before I moved lol) and they have the nerve to continue to charge extravagant amounts of money for their paper! Eugh...

I agree - the surface is exactly the same on each sheet an dcolour I have tried so far and that has NEVER been lik ethat on pastelmat, the texture ALWAYS varies on each colour.
Thank you! Now I have to find it. Pastelmat has also gotten crazy expensive!
I hope it's easy to get in Canada eventually! It's next to impossible to get pastelmat here now, and it's really decreasing my ability to continue working in pastels.
Wonderful! I’ll be ordering from Blick. Thanks, Jason! ❤️👍
Thanks so much for this video ! I just ordered a pad of the brown tones. A bit difficult to find a place to order online that delivers to Switzerland, but I found one! Can’t wait to use them once I receive them in around 7 days 😊
hope you love it :)
Dear Maria, could you tell us where you found it online? Thanks :).
Glad I found this. I knew I could rely on you, I was about to buy some pastelmat... phew!. I'm in Australia and just searched for it and its reasonable priced. Cheaper than pastelmat
My pleasure :o)
Someone further down said it's only rolled out in Europe atm. Ensure your paper has velvet written after mi tientes as they have other paper which is hopeless for multiple layers.
Hi, could you please tell me where in Australia you found the new velvet one to buy? Thanks
I'd also like to know where in Australia you found it because I haven't been able to get it anywhere.
Thank you Jason! This is a game changer!
agree
I use Pastelmat in white only and so far I haven’t had any problems with it. But I will keep this paper in mind, for sure! Thank you!
the white is a bit smooth for pastels but great for coloured pencils - seems th edarker papers are the worst
Thanks Jason. I’ll certainly be looking out for it.
my pleasure - glad you found it useful
Terrific news. I tried standard Mi Tientes and *did not* have a good time, bought Pastelmat but haven't used it yet. If Velvet is the new gold standard for both quality and consistency, everybody wins
The Mi Teintes TOUCH I was not a fan of - the VELVET is FAB so far
I've had a sheet with that oddly smooth issue. It was a section, and it was the lower section, so I'd already done a full spaniel head in colored pencil, so I just did the best I could to make it work. It probably wouldn't have been possible if I were using pastels, but I was able to get enough down in CP to do the body of the dog.
so annoying - glad you made it work.
thank you :o)
Well that's brilliant news! As a colour pencil artist, I'm reaaaaally wanting something other than pastelmat. I've searched everywhere in the UK that I can think of and nobody has any 😭
all sold out after I mentioned it online by the looks
@@wildlifeartjm Thanks for the reply Jason - want to say where you got it - can't find any in the UK?
I’m hoping Dick Blick in the states will start carrying it soon.
@@wozz_1 sold out
Thank you Jason! I'm so glad to hear about the new velvet paper. Did you have any problems with the velvet paper becoming scratched or dented accidentally? I'm picturing a soft surface that could easily marred. And how well can you lift or erase mistakes?
think o fthe surface as almost exactly the same as perfect quality pastelmat - its nothing like velvet or velour to be honest.
I just sent a message to Jackson’s. Hopefully other people will too! Thanks for sharing this info, Jason.
I am gonna request to them also!
yep - all we really need is a viable alternative
I called Dakota Pastels just now and they hope to be selling in by the end of October.
On one of my paintings on Pastelmat, I had vertical ridges that looked like the ridges on cardboard.
yes very frustrating
Thanks Jason for this video! I am not a fan of Canson but I will try this one.
All I can say is what I have seen so far - its so much better, lets hope they can maintain quality :o)
But as they haven’t changed it I swapped to large sheets as it doesn’t happen with them.
there are NUMEROUS different issues with the surface, I have told them about them repeatedly over many years.
it has just happened to me with a 100x70 cm paper after 15 hours of drawing, when I started to paint the paper is scratched, there are areas where the pastel is not fixed, I feel very frustrated.
@@Art_Mallorca i can relate - no paper or product is ever 100% reliable, things happen. But pastelmat is very unreliable
Would a coating of clear gesso be a solution for the smoother parts of pastelmat?
Not really - gesso works differently
When did they release Carson Mi Tientes Velvet paper? Not for sale on AmazonUS
couple of months
Sounds like the quality of pastel mat has changed over the years. The brilliant artist Leslie Harrison has used velour paper from Dakota Pastel for years. Her work is absolutely gorgeous!
I will look her up!
Really no excuses for clairfontaine with the price of pastelmat. Hope i can find some canson, i really like their othr papers generally.
I fully agree with you
Thank you for sharing 😊
Can you use a white pencil crayon on top of coloured on this paper? If so I may be switching paper!
No idea sorry, I dont use crayons
My problem with pastelmat is I need A2 size and I just can't source it. I've looked up this paper and its available on amazon
Thank You 🙏
Paperstory have it, but it's out of stock. But.....£55 for a 30x40 pad. I stopped using Pastelmat because of the ever increasing price.
@@carahindes4341 sorry, I have not seen or used canson velvet yet. I cannot answer u properly.
Does it take wet media? Can we use the gouache method or use watercolor, inks, etc.?
yes
Does anyone know if you can paint wet media on this new canson paper? I like doing a layer or two of watercolour on pastelmat before going over it with pastels
Yes you can. I’ve used it with both a watercolour underpainting and alcohol underpainting. Worked perfectly with both and didnt warp! ( I’m in France, can get it easily so have been using it for a few weeks )
as maxine says below - yes you can
@@maxineedwards2055 great to know, thank you!
wow its really new!is it similar with velour?since velour is also velvet surface. thanks for giving us idea
HI No nothing like velour paper at all. Canson states it s a velvet paper but really its VERY similar to pastelmat surface NOT velour.
@@wildlifeartjm ow its exciting to try this canson velvet i hope it will be available soon worldwide! I had a problem with pastelmat the edge are curling/warping despite of its thickness. i bought it even if its so expensive. thank u so much sir Jason♥!
@@wildlifeartjm I'm happy to hear it's not velour.
I bought a 12 sheet pad of Caslon Velvet paper A3 350g/m in an art shop in Riga, Latvia for 40€. It has 4 colors
It’s not velvet has 430 g m
@@wildlifeartjm oh thats good to hear then, I will have to try it.
Yes I tested it years ago - not a fan to be honest
I have searched online and can’t find a supplier. Help?
depends on your country , but as more people request it , it wil then appear in many more art stores
What is the best paper for a new new beginner to learn on? so that we don't break the bank while learning?
I buy 500 grit wet/dry sandpaper from a really good paint store. Depending upon your style and if you use pencils or the soft pastel sticks .... I do abstract art so Mi-Tientes has been fine for me (no pastel pencils). I've also applied Golden and Art Spectrum pastel grounds to both watercolor and bristol paper, but they need to be taped down until the grounds dry. There are many TH-cam videos on these techniques.
try canson touch or any of the very fine sanded papers as an alternative to start with - bu tthey do differ quite a bit from these 2 papers
It is officially being sold on The Blick Store now!
Do you know what the cost is like, compared to Pastelmat, please?
different in different countries
If you say it’s good ! Than I’ll buy it !!! Only when it’s available in the US ? Who knows ..
Dakota Pastels is hoping for the end of October, but as you said "wo knows?"
we are hoping in 1 to 2 months time
I contacted Canson and in their reply email they said “the Canson team is excited to launch the new Mi-Teintes Velvet paper in the North American market in October 2024”. 🤞🤞
The white dots have been the bane of my existence
Great job 👍👍👍
pastelmats problems have been there for at least 6 years that I have been using the paper. It might well be worse now
Anyone able to find anyone selling this online? It’s neither available at Jackson’s, Jerry’s, Blick, Cheap Joe’s, nor Amazon. 😢
Martine
Has anyone tried velour? Can you do fine detail on it?
I tested it years ago, I found it very frigile and didnt suit my style for details. Other slove it but tends to be for mych looser work.
@@wildlifeartjm Thank you!
When someone finds this paper for purchase somewhere, please post it here. Thanks!
which country?
Thanks Jason, but can the person that introduced you to it let us know where he/she purchased it? I can’t find it anywhere
I cannot find it so far in Canada. If anyone knows somewhere in Alberta to purchase, please let me know!😊
october for stocks - none now
Available here in the USA and fairly inexpensive from Dick Blick art supply.
The Canson Mi-Tientes Velvet is not available anywhere in the USA. They have the regular Mi-Tientes and the sanded version, not the "velvet". Hopefully it will be here end of October or November.
Carson mi-teints velvet Britain
Please let us know if you get any new info on this product.
i will certainly let you know - as more ask for it then it will appear in art stores worldwide
@@wildlifeartjm Thanks, Jason!
My goodness thank you so much for this. I absolutely hate the original mi tients.
my pleasure - this is VERY different
Oh boo no suppliers in my country. :-(
its a new paper - it will hopefully be worldwide soon.
3 Months later, are you still sure about the new Canson Velvet, as the best paper for Pastel??
Its still excellent
Brush and Pencil LuxArchival Professional Sanded Art Papers
I tested that when it 1st came out. I saw no difference between it and other sanded papers.
They are very different to this and pastelmat.
I used to like lux archival but felt it was eating up my pastel sticks too quickly.
Quite disheartening to know that quality control has gone downhill especially since their cost is absolutely bonkers.
last 6 years its not been great at all.
Eugh...
