i once recorded a tommy wright video at 4 am because i found the gta 4 tommy wright video (which is the most popular one) and out of the sudden my youtube recommendations were filled with this video, so i just said "fuck it" and fed the algo, it was quite an experience to just see tommy wright all over and it also helped me discover an artist that i would have never known existed less i clicked that one video
i feel like it stems from like 2005-2011 TH-cam nostalgia and when we used to watch people using cheats or mods in gta without like a clear purpose or point to be made. the old audio quality of the song really helps in that aspect, but what's interesting is the original video is from 2014 on Saints Row the 4th using the games intentionally put in movement mechanics so people are almost referring to an era before the video everyone's referencing. the meme quickly evolves into its own thing tho and we try to make it work in any game with can think of with flying and large buildings even if it doesn't match the era its from and thats like part of the fun i guess. i feel like the main factor the song has in the equation is that it might sound kinda mildly goofy but a really catchy song to people. i doubt most people ever heard it before seeing these videos. maybe its also the idea of "creeping at night" being rag-dolling across the city lol. i'm horribly uneducated about genre history but the songs really interesting to me how it uses those sounds every phonk song on earth uses these days at the start and the really reverbed piano sample. it sounds like somthing someone would wanna make recently like like some kinda sub genre, its very interesting how its a meme song that doesnt have an insanely wide spread nostalgia like how everlong is a meme templet song but i cant see this one expanding past its current use.
Hey OsakaSyndrome, I just finished watching your Garten of Banban stream and I wanted to drop a comment. First off, I have to say, you handled the relentless chat banter with incredible patience and grace. As a social worker who often deals with challenging situations, I can totally understand how tough it can be to stay composed when you're constantly being poked at. I really admire your resilience and your ability to keep things light-hearted, even when the chat was going a bit overboard. Remember, it's perfectly okay to take a step back if things get overwhelming. Your well-being is paramount, and your true fans will always support your decision to prioritize your mental health. I hope you're doing okay after the stream. If you ever need to talk or vent about these kinds of experiences, my inbox is always open. Keep up the great work, and don't forget to take care of yourself. You're doing an amazing job, and we appreciate you for all the entertainment and laughs you bring into our lives. Stay strong and keep being you! 💪
Frankly, I don't remember the stream in question. But I appreciate the comment immensely, whatever the context! You didn't have to type all that out but chose to, and that means something. Thank you. I try my best to be a good person. And I'll keep trying even harder!
I didn't see a single video like this in my recommendations, despite using them a lot. Is this really mysterious at all? seems a lot like how other memes spread on youtube.
My current theory is that TH-cam's algorithms have changed to promote smaller creators and that's why weirder memes like this are suddenly gaining or regaining prominence.
memphis phonk in general, should be credited more. myself, also was deep into memphis rap wayyy before the 2023 brasil phonk meme popped off. crazy off da bud sac, where da bud at, ridin in the chevin, are all my favorites. underground vol mix.1 being my favorite CD/Tape/Mix and still listen to it daily. im glad to see tommy wright, an og, get some of the credit he deserves for starting the most RAW form of gangster rap (the only form that's good tbh) hope to see tracks like "fuck all dem hoes" pop off again.
the first i creepy at night vid I posted exploded, it was on a level I designed in about 10 days (it looks kinda grey in the thumbnail). I'm thinking of cutting up the footage i have of my game where i'm using the energy drinks and just super-fast moving around
I said the Memphis scene at the time. A lot of those guys straight up used satanic imagery on their album art n iconography to be more shocking and less mainstream.

My introduction to memphis rap was BMX/Skate vids from 10+ years ago. Beagle (from Baker Skateboards) is a huge fan of that music.
@@g-townstoner7304 baker was a banger skate org/brand. never had their broads but their teams uploaded the funniest vids.
