The central guiding principle of their music is the Japanese term “mono no aware” (Japanese: 物の哀れ), which describes a wistful, sometimes melancholic reminiscence of the carefree, free moments of childhood and youth; this with the knowledge that time is fleeting and unstoppable. As part of the synthwave genre as interpreted from 2000 onwards and the so-called "New Retro Wave" - which is particularly characterized by the effort to revive melodies as well as film and video game soundtracks from the 1980s - The Midnight combines retrofuturistic elements of synthpop and House, among other things, with the use of electronic drums and characteristic saxophone solos.[2] Tim McEwan has described the duo's past activity as "songwriting done through the prism of nostalgia".[3]

My best friend died 3 years ago from epilepsy, this video is how i feel. My wife is great, my best friend and she tries so hard to be there for me, but shes not him. We had so much in common and it just hard tryign to enjoy life knowing he wouldve loved these things too. I love and miss you so damn much David. Those years when we were young were some of my happiest years. Cherish those close to you. None of us are promised tomorrow🙏🏿
