This makes me want to plant acres and acres of daffodils!!! So pretty! And no one more deserving of the first bouquet than Grandma!!
Yep, Grandma definitely gets the first bouquet in my book.
I love that you took your first flowers to grandma. Made this gruff ole guy tear up a bit.
"If one daffodil is worth a thousand pleasures, then one is too few." -William Wordsworth
🥰
Your mom is so lucky that you humour and support her at the same time. 😊😉
Every time I watch these videos it motivates me to get my butt off the couch and get planting..
I just found your channel and I am binge watching. I am learning so much while enjoying watching you plant and teach. Your personality is infectious and so much of why I enjoy watching your channel! Thank you for being a bright spot during my day!
You just gave me the idea to make a photography bed. Grandmas daffodils were beautiful.
Thank heavens someone else gets dirty in the garden. I was beginning to think I was alone 😄
I'm covered on the regular here in Cedarville ! Happy planting 😊🌞
Dirt happens! It’s refreshing to see someone else doesn’t look perfect after working hard in the garden.
Love the dirt mustache! 😅 its an achievement when you have one.
What a great video!!!! After seeing grandmas bouquet i feel like I need to see the other lucky persons with all the extra bits.
I want to see it too lol!
Those are as pretty as you! Thank you for sharing your treasure with us!
Daffodils are my favorite bulb. "a bowl of sunshine". Grandma is so cute! What a cheerleader. Couldn't help but notice sleeveless to sweatshirt. How crazy is spring. Your CSA distribution methods are very smart. I wish you much success.
Omg, the geese honking right after you said loosey goosey lol!
🤣🤣 I cleaned the lens of my cell, then cleaned the lens of my glasses. Still couldn't tell what was on your upper lip. Looked like a mustache. Kept on watching and realize it was dirt. I then, cracked up laughing.🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for making me laugh.
I did not know that daffodils would make such good cut flowers. I have plenty and have never harvest them. Good job!!
LOL!!!
Holy thrip that's a lot of daffodils!
Daffodils!! We've had them here in Tulsa OK for a few weeks - the first sign of spring! I love them and after watching your video on different kinds of daffodils, my partner and I want to plant a bunch of different kinds next year.
my early spring flowers are already bloomed out 9 daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, grape hyacinth, iris). So excited to see all of yours!
I will never be a flower farm person, but I do look forward to sharing flowers from my garden with family members (like Grandma) when I go visit this year. My daffs are already done, but this was their first year so I am really looking forward to seeing what they do in years to come.
Wow so nice to see your hard work comes to life. I love daffodils and they make me so happy whenever I look at them. They are a ray of hope during this cold spring with snow and hail showers.
"I'm taking the pretty and passing it on." So good.
🥰💐
Daffodils are my favorite! Happy harvesting!
So jealous of your soil! My soil is clay and we set out our ranculus yesterday it was quite the chore. Love the idea of using old blinds for labels!! Thank you for sharing, you really have inspired me!!
I used mini blinds (cut shorter) as plant labels in my garden last summer, but found that the Sharpie faded in the sun. I think you have a fancy garden marker that doesn’t fade, but my pro tip for others reading the comment section who are working with Sharpies like me is to write on the back as well as the front, because the sunlight won’t fade both sides.
Or use a soft pencil, it won’t fade at all.
Paint pen instead
Paint pen or pencil...both great ideas, thanks!
Ohh nice. I bought an oil based sharpie
Love the enthusiam! Great fun, very informative too!!!!
"I'm taking the pretty and passing it on" LOVE IT! you are so sweet, I enjoy watching your videos while I'm dreaming of my own garden. Thanks Nicole!
Northlawn Flower Farm also covered this topic. I loved both videos!
We had our first snow of this year and I'm already looking forward to spring. Found your channel and am trying to decide if I should binge watch now, or wait till real winter sets in.
I admire you you how you go above and beyond for your customers. That’s how all good business should run. Congrats on your first flowers.Cheers for the spring and first sales!,,,
Thank you so much 🤗
And so it begins...💞💞💞💞
Happy Grandma to be the first to receive a bouquet of sunshine! I love how they instantly make you feel happy and uplifted. Didn't know you can pinch them off for a longer stem. Thanks for sharing Nicole :)
if you have time to work with the photographers (basically supervise while they are on property) maybe you could plant some extra rows of daffodils that you don’t cut for spring photo sessions? Could be great extra income for the farm from charging sitting fees! I mean some wedding venues charge $200. And daffodils come back every year for you so you can’t loose! Could be a great investment!
My dafs are almost done but thank goodness for some of the doubles that are late because yesterday’s heavy rain beat down my replete variety. 😭 there are a few that haven’t opened yet, so there’s those! I just love daffodils and have them everywhere in my gardens!!
This year, I had the best flowering since I planted bulbs 10 years ago. However, in Belgium, we had a polar cold wave and snowfall. Temperatures dropped by 25 degrees Celcius in one day. Daffs have suffered.
My daughter changed out her two inch white vinyl blinds to something else and save them for me. After cutting them I now have tons of heavy duty markers for my garden. Glad you found something to use because you are right those little tabs just get lost in the shuffle
Those glasses....get me every time! Ha!🤣
Brilliant blind hack. Thank you!
Would you give us a tour of your ranunculus patch when they are ready for harvesting? I have never seen them in a garden before.
I literally use the exact same thing! One of our cats destroyed our blind and I have years of markers! I even cut them in half length-ways for seedling markers! :)
Yes! I made tiny ones this morning too for some potted plants 👍👍👍
Love the daffodils! I've been harvesting a bucket load every week. Tonight I also harvested a bucket full of ranunculus! It's so great to be surrounded by flowers again. 😁
Flowers ring you such joy, don’t they? I love watching your videos.

so Fun!!!! TY!!!!
Thank you Nicole for another awesome flower video. I've been using mini blinds this way for the past few years...just something to pass on....when starting new varieties of dahlias and you only have a few (or one) of each just cut about a 5 inch piece of mini blind and put a hole on one end (with a hole punch), write the name of the dahlia (I've had good luck with pencil) and place in the ground with your dahlia. Then as the plant grows you can just remove it from the ground (where it can be accidentally pulled when weeding) and use some bailing twine to tie your label to the plant using the hole made on the end. No more mislabeled dahlias!!! Also, thanks for helping me id what's eaten all my ranunculus...only planted about a hundred but, yup, the leaves have been eaten right off. I thought they were poisonous!?! They didn't touch the anemones thankfully!
Great idea on the blinds! I currently cut up old yogurt or dip containers if I'm out of labels for my seed trays (small enough to still put on the humidity dome). But the blinds would be great for out in the field! You made me crack up with the chipmunk voice when counting! 😆
First flowers of the season! Congratulations
Just beautiful Nicole, well done you 🌻💚
Your little giggle after the first flower was contagious and made my heart smile.☺️
To walk amongst the sunshine of the first smiling Daffodils...
Beautiful flowers for gma 💛💛💛
Such a sweet bouquet 💐😍. And boy did we get the rain 🌧!!
Your labels are genius
Makes me want to go take down some blinds. 🤣
Thank you for keeping it real! You show the reality and genuineness of gardening. I am thankful for that. PS I bought the same tool/garden belt because of you and I cannot tell you it is a game changer! Thank you again and have a wonderful day!
BLINDS!! what a great idea!
I am about to cry 😥😡my dog tore up my flat of ranunculus! I had it in a low window sill and she climbed up and dug them up! She is in big time trouble. I remember your chickens last year , it hurts my soul lol. Great video!
Ughhhhh I’m so sorry! That’s the worst 🙄
Your dirt mustache/beard is on point ;)
My face is always covered in dirt when I'm done gardening
I just came in from planting flower bulbs and saw you had uploaded a new video. Thank you for the content you make. I absolutely adore your videos!! All the best to you and your family from Central Iowa!
I really like the blinds idea! I just happen to have 2 that need replacing! I'm in 4B too and my daffodils started opening 2 day ago. I was so excited!!
Yay! My dafs are done here in zone 7. I definitely need a few more varieties next year to make my flush last a little longer. I'm so excited for your 2021 season! As soon as the notification showed up on my phone, I told my husband Flower Hill Farm has her first harvest! 😂
Very nice
Loving it!
You are a trouper 💪🏽💚💪🏽
Old blinds?! 🤯 Sooo smart! 🤓
So excited for you!!!
Woohoo! My daffodils are blooming too and my tulips are starting !!!!🌷 😄
Thanks for explaining how you handle your CSA customers when you don’t have enough flowers all at one time. It really helped easy my panic attack🤪
LOL I've been using blinds also.
Beautiful daffodils 🥰
I was driving in the car with my husband when you posted this yesterday, ajd I was like "yay Nicole posted a video" & he was eavesdropping on the video. (I think he's beginning to get jealous b/c I talk about you all the time 🤣) Anyways my husband could hear you saying saying "A pool toy" & he started laughing! 😂
Good idea!! Gram should get the first bouquet..
They look beautiful! :)
Awesome farm.
My akita laid down and stuck her paw under the fence that I put around my ranunculus . . . and dug up all the golds. Oh, my heart! Pray for my dog!!
Oh no!! I feel your pain. My black lag decided to just rub through my freshly planted basil plants earlier this week. Crushed a few. 😑
Ugh! Sounds like my chickens 🐓
Oh, no! My lab learned over her first growing season with us that she can smell, but not dig up mommy's plants. I still have to watch her - I think some plants smell too good to resist! What I need to do is train her to dig in the spot I tell her to, lol.
Update: I now think it was probably a bunny, because after thinking about it she would have moved the fence if she had stuck her paw under there. I have now fortified the bed with more fencing and will be setting up the trail cam!!
Yep, I have done blind trick for years for bulb planting GPS, lol..... I also use leftover plastic utensils, especially the knives for my smaller garden areas or my seedlings n cups........( permeant marker)
Happy Days!
It must be something in my zone or the variety grown out here, but the rununculus have super short stems. Rununculus are dreamy, but I have never grown any with long stems for cut flowers. Darn bunnies getting the babies you planted!
So far we haven't gotten much rain today. I was hoping for more. Enough to wet down our grass seed, but my plants definitely need more.
I have bunnies eating my flowers too. I looked on u tube at a recipe of hot sauce and water you can spray around to detour bunnies, I’m going to give it a go. 👍🏼
Really liked this. I am convinced on the early picking. About your water totes. I have several as I raise fish in them, but mainly so I have rain water for my plants. There are several benefits of having a lot of totes. !. You can survive a longer drought, 2. Gold Fish are about 16 cents each at Pet Smart. I put about ten in each tote. They eat the mosquito larvae, #3 The fish poo in the water naturally fertalizes my plants. I never have to buy emulsion. Wiil send you some pics of how I do it.
Wow that's fun! The water doesn't get too hot in them for the fish?
So impressed - every other time I step on a T pole, the T falls off!
I have 2 very naughty cats who have destroyed 3 of my blinds, and yes, that is exactly what I do. I use them as plant markers.
(Gasp!) You can pull daffs for a longer stem???
I did not know this before!
Thank you!
I am going to try this method out today!😊
Pulling daffodils will also make for less mess from the sap (which can be an irritant) that comes from the stem. Also, I believe daffodils should be put in their own water and then the water should be changed out before mixing the daffodils with other flowers.
Look for an auction company to get you a cooler, I bought all the shelving from a staples going out of business for $650.00 over $300,000.00 worth retail, I saw they did a Kroger the next week and a cooler went for $100.00 it would have been $8-10,000.00.im not sure if they are near you but Grafe online auction is who I used. Just thought I’d share, I was so happy.
Can we be besties?
Daffodil season yay 🤗
2021 Here we go!!! Wohoo. Why do you pull and not cut the daffs?
Hi Nicole, did you find that your bulbs multiplied much from last year? Love your videos!
Definitely
Can you plant anything else after you picked the daffodils????
We’re 9 weeks away from the first 2022 harvest (hopefully)!!!!!
I have yellow Loosestrife if you want some!
I HATE the commercial youtube put on the intro! BUT I love you!! So I can endure the 5 seconds. Thanks for your inspiration and I informative videos
😂 oh no! What was it? Everyone sees something different I guess 😂
@@FlowerHillFarm some kind of butt wipes. Not for babies, apparently! Ha!!
Omg!!! 😱😂
How are your tulips doing?
Coming along!
NICOLE! QUESTION! My neighbor has a bunch of daffodils that look to have just begun growing wild in her yard years ago, well knowing that I'm on this cutflower business journey, she offered to dig me some up. Do you know anything about the wild ones and their vase life or anything I should be concerned about vs. the ones we buy online?
I’d grab them. There shouldn’t be a difference! 💐
Congrats on the first harvest! Have any advice on how to harvest tulips? I have a lot of buds turning their color but they sure aren’t goose necks lol
Definitely not goose neck! I pull them when they start to color up.
@@FlowerHillFarm thank you 😊👍🏻👊🏻💯
Wow noticing you don't work the ground before planting...is this better for the plants/soil to be left alone? Do you have major weed issues when you don't?
Thank you, love your info and honesty....a lot of laughs here
That ground was worked last fall. We do a mix of fall and spring whenever we have time!
Hi, on one of your videos you mentioned a training that you attended. Could you let me know the name of it? Love your videos!
Hello there. I took a class in 2019 with The Gardener's Workshop with Lisa Mason Ziegler. It's a six week class about farming flowers. She's based in Virginia.
Lovely daffodils. Hey Nicole. Which direction do your flower and vegetable beds run? Do they all run north-south? Or east-west?
I have both but these beds run east/west
You should action off the very first boquet for each season. A lot less complicated and could generate lots of suport $s. For example. I would start the bidding at $50. Just to support your fabulous channe.
Love the video! Question some of my Ranunculus I have started indoors have long stems with leaves on top almost like strawberry plants. I have them under growlights for 14+ hours a day are my lights not strong enough or could this be caused by something else?
That’s kinda how they look- might be normal! Buds come up from the bottom when it’s time!
@@FlowerHillFarm oh phew! It is my first time growing them after seeing them in your videos! Attempting a container cut flower garden in my tiny gravel yard!!
@@FlowerHillFarm thank you for the advice!
Are you able to take Daffodils to farmers markets?
No, markets around me don’t start until June at the earliest. Daffodils are done by then.
Wegmans was selling 10 daffodil stems for $2.50 today.how can you hope to compete with that?
Do you also grow a vegetable garden?
Sure do! 🍅👍
Do you grow Gerber Daisy?
I do not!
Where did you get your boots?
Those are Bogs - Amazon!
Hey what’s the music you play at the start of your videos?
It’s a song called Freshly Fallen Snow
Tis just a natural scrub 😂
