    I'm from the Philippines, the ordinary was introduced by my sister in law. I use the same product as well as I do the routine you did in this video. Its been like 1yr and how many months since I used the product. It really helped my skin look brighter and less breakouts also it even makes the scar look less visible. ☺️

      Yes, that's fine!
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.
      It’s fine to use both types of exfoliants (AHA and BHA) as part of your skin care routine - you can use them at the same time, alternate days of usage, or use one in the morning and one at night, depending on your preference.

      Yeah, you can add Glycolic acid to your routine.
      For scars, it depends on the scars as this is always a trickier part to see improvements as there are different treatments that may or may not work for you....Have a look at Retinoid/Retinol and combine it with Glycolic Acid.

      @@nnayaf And what are your results?
      Yes, 😞 But what you can do is looking for an alternative, you may wish to buy a cleanser with Salicylic Acid in it.
      What I would recommend is using the Salicylic Mask twice a week. And probably wait until the solution it's back in stock. Or you need to buy the one from Paula's Choice, but that's just crazy expensive, and I think it's not worth it. But I would rather wait until the Ordinary Salicylic Acid Solution is back in stock, and like I said, to use the mask as an alternative.

      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John,
      Technically it would help if you did not use the AHA (Glycolic Acid) with your retinol serum, as this can lead to irritation. Usually, it is fine initially, but your skin can become sensitive after a while. So my advice is to alternate days.
      Example:
      Monday:
      Cleanse
      Glycolic Acid
      Moisturizer suitable for your normal to dry skin (No retinol, no Exfoliating acids) e.g. Paula's Choice Omega + Moisturizer
      Tuesday
      Cleanse
      Olay Regenerist retinol 24-night moisturizer
      Wednesday:
      Cleanse
      Glycolic Acid
      Moisturizer suitable for your normal to dry skin (No retinol, no Exfoliating acids) e.g. Paula's Choice Omega + Moisturizer
      Etc.
      of course, you need to adjust the frequency accordingly to the changing needs of your skin, but that would be a great start :)

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I'm getting the feeling that the Olay Regenerist 24 night lotion that I'm using is the same as the ordinary 7% toning liquid? do they both act as exfoliant?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, all I'm saying is that I recommend not using your Glycolic Acid and Retinol Moisturizer in the same routine. Alternate between them in your evening routine. Use a non-Retinol moisturizer after your Glycolic Acid such as Paula's Choice Omega moisturizer, however, this can also be a different one.
      Glycolic Acid helps to loosen the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin while Retinol helps to speed up the cell turnover and also leads to a 'sort of' exfoliating part, but they work differently.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! :)
      Both are exfoliating acids. You may just want to stick to one for a while before switching or alternating with the other. This way, you can see which one your skin prefers most and what works the best for you.
      I recommend starting with using it 2-3 times per week for some time before increasing its frequency.

    AHAs are also recommended for oily skin, blackheads and large pores...

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are not. They only work on the surface of the skin, so they will not be very effective for controlling oiliness or reducing the appearance of enlarged pores unless there is a significant buildup of dead skin cells. Unfortunately, they are also not effective for blackheads that are already present since they cannot penetrate deeply enough to have an impact. However, it should be noted that there is no proper testing available to confirm their effectiveness in this regard.

      PM Routine:
      Gentle Cleanser (choose one that suits your skin type - for dry skin, use a cleanser formulated for dry skin; for oily skin, choose one for oily skin).

      Hey! :)
      Please do not use Glycolic Acid and Buffet + Copper Peptides in the same routine, keep them separate. Buffet + Copper Peptides (and all the other Ordinary Peptide serums) conflict with AHA and BHA (exfoliating acids) and Vitamin C.
      So you can use Buffet + Copper Peptides and Niacinamide in the same routine and/or Glycolic Acid and Niacinamide.

    Is my skincare routine is correct?
    1. Washing my face with hada labo AHA+BHA with salicylic acid
    2. The ordinary Niacinamide
    3. Hada labo hyaluronic acid or neutrogena hyaluronic gel mask
    Night i add the ordinary toner

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The order of application is correct!😊
      However, does it say anything about the % of AHA and BHA of your face wash?
      Since when using the Ordinary toner (which isn't really a toner, it's still an exfoliator as it contains 7% of Glycolic Acid (AHA) in it...) I recommend using a gentle/neutral cleanser that doesn't contain AHA and/or BHA in it...it may be too strong as it's like you would double exfoliate the skin.

    • @jenniferho4246
      @jenniferho4246 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's the correct order :)
      Also, how often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA(Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid) or BHA(Salicylic Acid) twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.

      Blackheads are a bit tricky to get rid of. Usually, Retinol and/or Salicylic Acid can help to reduce them. However, they sometimes need to get extracted with a tool, and then you can maintain it with skincare products.

      t's low strength, so there shouldn't be an issue. But be careful when using higher strength of Retinol. If you do so, either keep Glycolic Acid and Retinol separate or use Granactive Retinoid 2% or 5% since otherwise, it may irritate your skin.

      Hey :)
      Use your moisturiser before applying Azelaic Acid! The rest of your routine looks good! :)
      Keep in mind:
      How often you can exfoliate your skin with Glycolic Acid depends on your skin concerns and tolerance. Some people can do this daily whereas others prefer to do this only 2-3 times per week. Start slowly, see how it goes and based on that adjust the frequency of it! :)

    Hello, would this be a good daily skin routine..? I usually just wash my face once a day since I have sensitive skin.

    Glycolic acid toner
    Lactic acid
    Hyaluronic serum
    Niacinamide

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤔 Please, do not do that routine if you have sensitive skin.
      Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are not recommended for sensitive skin since they have small molecules that can easily penetrate the skin, leading to stinging and burning.
      Sometimes Hyaluronic Acid can cause issues too for sensitive skin.
      And Niacinamide 10% is generally okay.
      What are you trying to target with the routine? And is your only concern sensitive skin 🤔

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on what you do during the day. If you have a lot of sun exposure, then a higher SPF factor is always better. However, if you just spend brief periods outside, then SPF 20 or 30 is more than enough. Personally, I generally only use SPF 20 or 30, but it really depends a lot on your lifestyle. Therefore, you need to adjust accordingly.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey 😀 Thank you. Yes, you can use it after. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
      Cleanser
      Glycolic Acid (Water-Based Serum, Exfoliant)
      Niacinamide (Water-Based Serum)
      Moisturizer (Cream)
      Steps:
      Cleanser
      Toner
      Exfoliant
      Serums (1.Water Based, 2. Anhydrous Solution, 3.Oil)
      Moisturizer&Suspension
      The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
      1. Water-based serums
      2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
      Important:
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing.
      It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
      About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
      Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
      Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!

    hi this is the routine that i’m just starting:
    - micellar water (if there’s makeup)
    - cerave sa cleanser
    - ordinary glycolic acid toner / lactic acid 10% (alternating days)
    - niacinamide 10%
    - cerave lotion
    is this okay?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend using a gentle cleanser (without Salicylic Acid or other exfoliating acids) when using Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid to avoid irritation.
      The rest of the routine looks great! :)

    For my night time routine I’ve just started using CeraVe SA cleanser then The Ordinary glycolic acid toner then The Ordinary niacinamide serum but my skin always burns & my acne feels irritated. Is this normal? Is my skin adjusting? Or am I doing something wrong?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When do you get that burning? After Glycolic Acid or Niacinamide?
      If you have the SA Renewing Cleanser, it may be best not to use that one when using Glycolic Acid in the same routine since both will exfoliate your skin. Some people can use them together, whereas others may find this combination too strong. Or it may be Glycolic Acid. If that one alone burns on your skin, it may be too strong/ you might be better off with Salicylic Acid (BHA) instead of or like the Ordinary Mandelic Acid.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey again😊
      AM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Niacinamide
      - EUK
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - SPF
      Keep in mind that the conflicts of EUK are those: Do not use with highly acidic treatments, Pure Vitamin C (EAA/LAA), and Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%. - So do not use it in the same routine as Glycolic Acid.
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Glycolic Acid
      - Rose Hip Seed Oil
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
      1. Water-based serums
      2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
      Important:
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.

    Hi! I was wondering if I should wait after applying the toner (30 min ish) before using the serum to avoid any conflict with the niacinamide as my skin is very sensitive (I've just finished taking accutane!). Thank you, I loved the video!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issues are that it can react with Niacinamide. But this only leads to redness or can make it less effective in some cases. But nothing to really worry about if you use it properly. So you can apply the products right after another just wait 30second to a minute or whatever you usually do ;)
      I am more worried about Accutane do you have dry skin, and what did your doctor say?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Avoid using glycolic acid and salicylic acid in the same routine. Use both in the evening but on different days, and monitor the frequency to avoid or reduce over-exfoliation. Use niacinamide in the morning. Additionally, pay attention to your diet to reduce the chances of acne returning. Avoid consuming too much added sugar, processed food, and fast food. Also, be aware of any food intolerances, such as soy, milk, bread (gluten), eggs, and chicken.
