I had 4 of these back in 2000 2001. Raced it at TCS finals in southern California 2 seasons. F1 champion at my local club in those days. For club racing, wrap the upper and lower suspension arms in fiberglass as they are extremely fragile. I think tamiya made heavy duty A arms and that was cool. Tighten rear diff and back off screw on front diff to get more rotation out of rear. Tight front diff pushes.
I used to race an F201 back in 2005/06 and I ended up selling it to one of the guys at racing. After a while I regretted selling it so I checked to see if there were any on ebay and I found one pretty cheap NIB never built, I think it was about $170 AUD so I snapped it up. I've still got it here in the cupboard and still unbuilt.
I raced an f201 in the early 2000's at Southampton srcmcc behind a pub! superb chassis, and beautiful to watch around the circuit. myself and the other f201 driver used pit shimizu tyres and aftermarket springs, though i dont remember what they were. eventually we moved to the Eagle racing carbon chassis, which was a huge improvement!
Glad you got another one! I too had the williams, and moved it on with regret, however Ive been able to get a mint F2001 recently and will probably try running it. Those “pivots” you refer to are suspension rockers
I raced in the tamiya eurocup when this chassis was released. The F1 /LM class mainly had le mans style bodied cars and then most people swapped to the f201 chassis which was legal in the class
From what I can make out the f1 cars are very difficult to drive quickly..... maybe being 4wd it's 'easier' to drive? Been looking for an mp4-6 for a couple years now but the prices for new in box originals are really up there. The 'Tamiya tax is high' Time for a re-re Tamiya 🤞 Another great video Glenn and 1 more very selfless viewer 👌👏💪
Thanks Philip 😅 Yeah I’m really interested in the comparisons between this and the standard 2wd cars. I’d imagine it’s much easier to get the power down but maybe it won’t corner as good as the 2wd? 🤔🤷🏼♂️
Got a few of these in my collection including a couple with the 3racing carbon chassis conversion. Got boxes of spares and hop-ups if you’re missing that random part if you decide to build the second car. Those prop shafts look to be a Tamiya hop up and by the looks of it, there will prob be lightweight gears in there too.
These things drive absolutely superbly Effortless compared to Tamiya’s 2WD F1 cars You can get so much speed out of them in a far smaller space I inadvertently ended up buying a second one (too good a bargain to miss) when they were new, so have a basher and one NIB. I’ve got a few hop ups for my runner but you’ve done really well there Glenn - I’m still after the metal bell cranks, shock bodies and steering set. You’re correct, all the parts you pointed out are legit 👍🏻 Does your car have a carbon chassis plate ?
Great video. I need some help trying to figure out a price for my new in box RC F201 TUNED CHASSIS KIT. This kit has never been built with all original parts that comes with the kit. I am ready to part with it but struggling to find a fair asking price. I hope you can help me. Thanks.
Very cool car Glenn. I have never seen one before other than in the catalogs. I am looking forward to seeing more on this one and how it all goes together! Being 4wd it should drive really well too!
G'day Glenn bloody hell you have changed the way I think again I love that thing mate how's the suspension set up lol I remember when it hit hobby shops in Australia and I hated it I thought the suspension was copied from somebody else that just released an off-road vehicle with inboard shocks canterlever suspension about the same time. I think I like it so much now because it's so odd and so dam nice looking cheers for sharing video with us mate 👍👍
Like a forerunner to the TC01, which Glenn just said as I was typing lol it’s a cool thing, amazing really it took Tamiya so long to to use the push rod inboard system on a buggy
Glenn, that Jaguar body is very special since that team went on to win multiple F1 world championships and are still in F1. One of the drivers for that Jaguar team was none other than Mark Webber. And the team they became? Red Bull.
Bonjour je suis français j ai le meme modèle avec l électronique vintage moteur charbon sport tunez controler Tamiya et un accus lipo un regal a conduite on s amuse beaucoup deja dans cette configuration
Maybe it was an internal company joke. Ya know how guys are “ you couldn’t build an f1 car if you tried” “oh yeah watch this shit…….Awesome car, gonna look great when it’s done Glen.

Incredible how they squeeze a 4 wheel drivetrain in such a narrow car very very cool!

Excellent I hope you manage to find another one my friend 😎👊🏻
Nice bit of RC history
I raced in the tamiya eurocup when this chassis was released.
The F1 /LM class mainly had le mans style bodied cars and then most people swapped to the f201 chassis which was legal in the class
Looking forward to nxt video, awesome car❤

wow this great! I bought one a few years back still in box. This is the motivation i needed to finely get it out and build it.
Thats a cracking chassis, i think if they did a rere of this, i would have to have one just to build it 😁

Ohh boy!! Thats something else! Cheers Glenn!
Thanks for watching my friend 😅👊🏻
Very nice Glenn it looks a great project!
These things drive absolutely superbly

lovely car this, quite a rare one and very sought after! nice haul you got there! 👍
Fantastic generosity, looks like a really interesting chassis Glenn. Can't wait to see more 😎👍
Thanks Rob yeah I’ve seen this Ferrari finished and it honestly looks amazing 😇
Hey Glenn, you may have spotted it in the manual but the F201 came standard with a sport tuned motor.
Hi glen. I think it’s ps 60 for f1 cars. Was made specifically for the last Schumacher f1 release. Much brighter red than standard
Very cool car Glenn. I have never seen one before other than in the catalogs. I am looking forward to seeing more on this one and how it all goes together! Being 4wd it should drive really well too!
What a very kind donation to the channel!
Could you retrofit the alloy suspension pivots from the TC01 for a retro hop up on the F201??
Do you think about it set up more true to a F1 car.
Nice pickup Glenn. Very nice chassis, not my thing, but very interesting. It'll be good to see what you do with this.
Nice car, i have a brandnew ondriven Ferrari f201 to.
It looks there are lightweight diff joints on to👍

I need a 201!!! It is definitely something I have wanted for some time.
It would be awesome if Tamiya did another run of them 🙏🏻
@@TAMIYALegends oh!! We can dream!
This was one of the first rc cars i bought! Still have it.
the hop ups on the car, and all the spare parts suggest to me that the previous owner raced this car
That is so so cool!
I think it will look amazing. I think I might have to look for some running videos
Haha I’m very curious too as to how these handle 😅
Glen I’ve got one I’ve been restoring and have been looking for the top of the rear gearbox and can’t find one anywhere in the world
I’ve had a few conversations with people regarding this car. It really does seem as the spares are a absolute nightmare to get hold of 🤕
Looks like fun.
Fantastic racing single seater car, cheers Fabrizio

Yeah it’s weird how there F1 chassis’s completely moved away from this 🤔🤷🏼♂️
So cool!
Now you can run it for sure you got a lot of replacement parts.
"Holy shit its got alloy steering!" Hahaha 😂
Glenn, that Jaguar body is very special since that team went on to win multiple F1 world championships and are still in F1.
One of the drivers for that Jaguar team was none other than Mark Webber.
And the team they became? Red Bull.
Awesome car!
The only f1 I want in the collection. Some day I will find the one for me.
Hey let’s see if the parts I have will build a car for you 😅
Bonjour je suis français j ai le meme modèle avec l électronique vintage moteur charbon sport tunez controler Tamiya et un accus lipo un regal a conduite on s amuse beaucoup deja dans cette configuration
I need an f1 car done up as the Rick Mears Penzoil car like my Nikko was
I have the BMW Williams with a Midnight Pumpkin type lexan shell on it.😁😁😁
Haha that sounds crazy but I love the idea lol 😂
Maybe it was an internal company joke. Ya know how guys are “ you couldn’t build an f1 car if you tried” “oh yeah watch this shit…….Awesome car, gonna look great when it’s done Glen.
Haha quite possibly lol 😅
Tamiya made a GT103 based on the f103.😁😁😁
Oh wow I didn’t know that, thanks for the heads up 😎👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Hi it's actually called the F103GT. With a LeMans hybrid Toyota shell.
I think you want PS34 Bright red for Ferrari
I forgot that they ever make a four-wheel drive F1 car? Before they need to make this again.
Hope you run it run it.
The motor guard is tamiya for sure Glenn so if you go with how the rest of the alloy looks I'd say it's all tamiya
I have the BMW version of the F201. Amazing handling car but very very fragile!
Rere for sure 😬
Tamiya should re-re this as a 2wd.. although it’ll probably wouldn’t stand a chance against the f104..
Nice kit, but not realistic... as we all know F1 cars are 2wd.
