In my opinion, college basketball in the early 1980s was unreal. Look at the talent: Micheal Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Ralph Sampson, James Worthy, Akeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Charles Barkley. Need I say more!
I think you also had John Stockton, Joe Dumars, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Sam Perkins , Terry Porter and in the very early 80's you had Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre.
Sam Perkins wasn't the best at his position but he had an above average career and was a good shooter FT & 3PTers . In all, his career got him an Olympic Gold medal and a NCAA title . His best year was 16 pts a game. His least was 11pts. That's not bad in my book.
Drexler and Ewing both lost to Jordan in the Final Four and the NBA Playoffs and Finals.. I bet they hate seeing him on the other side of the court.. Young GOAT 🐐.. doing his thing.. not to mention Worthy and Perkins that UNC team was loaded 32-2 NCAA championship.. Houston and Georgetown would play each other for the 1984 championship 🏆and both those teams were loaded too.. Drexler and Hakeem and Ewing.. so with MJ and Worthy u got 5 future Hall of Famers playing in the 1982 Final Four.. amazing.
All time great superstars in this game. Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, Drexler, Olajuwon all went on to have great NBA careers! All with the exception of Perkins won NBA championships and Jordan, Worthy, Drexler, and Olajuwon are Hall of Famers!
This game was too much for the officials. They really didn’t let the players play back then in college basketball. No wonder these players exploded in the NBA!
53:12 mark....thats where he earned one of his nicknames...."The Tomahawk"....WORTHY was amazing...his next game vs Georgetown would be profoundly climactic !
9:12-9:20...explains why Worthy was the #1 pick in the NBA draft that year....ahead of Dominque Wilkins and Terry Cummings...(all juniors I might add).
The 3 point shot was a good idea but I personally think the shot clock took away from the college game. Notice how these two teams are more patient and don't rush things.
This Final 4 was a transition to a new era. First in the dome era (except for 1971 in the Astrodome, which used limited seats), first by CBS, Dean Smith's long overdue first title. The first where a freshman assumed a leadership role in taking the winning shot. And the first of the era of titles often coming down to last second shots. That hadn't happened since the 1963 Loyola overtime win. And the rise of the Big East and the ACC as title winners. And UCLA's long shadow at the final 4 was finally gone. And, from my perspective, the last Final 4 while I still lived at home. I moved out a few months later for a job. Personally nostalgic.
If you want to watch something check out the 1982 final four when the heels were dominating the houston cougars and then Hakeem as a freshman who had only played bball for 3 years came off the bench and changed the whole game by altering and blocking shots and rebounding.
I can tell you about that game. Drexler had 6 fouls. The referees blew it. Drexler literally jumped over Andre Turner for a dunk. Houston won but Memphis played a good game
Yo people who.always say when you saw mj in college you didnt think hed be great,..that was cappp every college game I've seen he was moving differentiate thsn any player
@@MeIn321you must be tripping, dude. Akeem(Hakeem)'s defensive play brought them back into the game from 0-16. Remove the blindfold or get some bifocals and rewatch again.
I remember this classic game NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELS great team with Sam Perkins, Micheal JORDEN the beast greatest player in college I have ever seen u know love the dude
UNC had "The Dream Team" before the Olympic Dream Team, IMO. Worthy, Perkins, JordJimmy Black, Matt Doherty, and Jordan. Each one was drafted by NBA teams and had considerable contributions to the league (to say the least) - except Black and Doherty - who would later become UNC coaches of one sort or another. OTOH, Houston wasn't a slouch either (again, to say the least) - with Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon and Clyde "The Glide" Drexler and two others making the NBA as first round draft picks.....
He definitely wasn't scared to shoot the ball considering he made the shot which won the NCAA title that year. He was just unselfish and playing his role, he was only a freshman and he had other really good players on his team like Worthy and Perkins.
Coach Lewis blew this game: #1 - Not starting Akeem, which allowed NC to build a huge lead. #2 - Playing #21 Williams too long (He really HURT the team)
Rob Williams was an all american. The Only all american that season for Houston. Hakeem was a redshirt sophomore, 1st year playing organized ball. No doubt Guy Lewis gave NC State the chip in 1983, but he coached brilliantly in this tournament. They were a 6 seed and made the Final Four with a bunch of sophomores
Lol at North Carolina white bench players just passing the ball around the horn back and forth. Not like any of them are going to bust an explosive move .😂
The cover photo of this video has Olajuwon looking struck by the ⚡ electricity 🔌 of Yahweh and Drexler looks like a 1970's nightclub owner. Sideburns and poofy close crop afro... And mustache... Drexler missed his hair that's why he kept the George Jefferson until 93-94
RIP Billy Packer. Thanks for the memories my friend.
In my opinion, college basketball in the early 1980s was unreal.

It seems all greats of the game played against, or for Houston in a dome.
I think you also had John Stockton, Joe Dumars, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Sam Perkins , Terry Porter and in the very early 80's you had Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre.
The talent on the floor is crazy. The last time a guy name Jordan wouldn't be the best player on his team.
Olajuwon, Drexler, MJ, Worthy and Ewing among others. That 1981-1982 NCAA men's basketball season had quite a talent on the floor.
sam perkins too.
@@mkhan8527 what does Sam Perkins represent in terms of the NBA?
Because as far as I remember he was an average player at best.
What a great ballgame ! The beginning of a legend like Worty and Ewing .Of course the arrival of the best ro ever play this game.
Dean's 1st . He deserves it.
Sam Perkins wasn't the best at his position but he had an above average career and was a good shooter FT & 3PTers . In all, his career got him an Olympic Gold medal and a NCAA title . His best year was 16 pts a game. His least was 11pts. That's not bad in my book.
That #23 for North Carolina looks pretty good, I think the kid's got a future in the NBA.
Idk he might get like what 6 rings or something?
He would even make a great team with bugs bunny and tweety bird
Jordan? Sounds familiar. I think I've heard that name 23 times.
I’ll think he’ll end up being 2ND BEST of all time
I think he gave up after this and became a shoe salesman.
That Worthy dunk man 🤯
Awesome!
Sick he really elevated
Tag it for me so I can get right to the dunk. I'm not watching this whole game....lol.
they unfairly made a big deal when he banged a prostie.
7 months later BUT I think he might be talking about the dunk at 9:15
27:12
Could any one tell this young man will become the NBA’s all time blocked shot leader.
Better than today's NBA
Look at the freshman shooting guard for North Carolina and notice how timid he was dribbling the ball.
College Rookie Jordan 🐐
Big Game James!!!
That Worthy coast to coast dunk tho
Drexler and Ewing both lost to Jordan in the Final Four and the NBA Playoffs and Finals.. I bet they hate seeing him on the other side of the court.. Young GOAT 🐐.. doing his thing.. not to mention Worthy and Perkins that UNC team was loaded 32-2 NCAA championship.. Drexler and Hakeem and Ewing.. so with MJ and Worthy u got 5 future Hall of Famers playing in the 1982 Final Four.. amazing.
That Jordan kid could be good if he works on his reverse layup. That Worthy guy seems ready to be a serviceable NBA player.
Nah, I doubt he'll amount to much, he turned the ball over too much
My all time favorite NBA player in history Michael air jordan
Akeem Abdul Olajuwon!!! Crazy how little they dribble in the half court offense..
All time great superstars in this game. Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, Drexler, Olajuwon all went on to have great NBA careers! All with the exception of Perkins won NBA championships and Jordan, Worthy, Drexler, and Olajuwon are Hall of Famers!
Has there ever been an other NCAA game featuring so many future NBA stars? I'd bet not.
This game was too much for the officials. They really didn’t let the players play back then in college basketball. No wonder these players exploded in the NBA!
And no wonder why they left school early.
Let em play. They called the ball in those days. Now they don't call the ball at all. Especially in the NBA
The Heels best team without a 3 point shot ever was 1982. The best with the 3 ball is 2009. Best starting 5 was 1984.
My picks for all 3 eras as well. We think alike I suppose. Go Heeels!!!!
Just think, Buzz Peterson was considered a higher freshman recruit than Michael Jordan.
Enough Hof in this game to win a 3 peat
The 3 point shot was a good idea but I personally think the shot clock took away from the college game. Notice how these two teams are more patient and don't rush things.
Sam Perkins and Worthy were probably so blown away that Michael Jordan became what he became- MJ just soared past them in ability, fame, athleticism
Re upload the March madness games from the 90s too since y’all put this is great quality
I miss the cbs sports basketball theme music from the 1980s.
NBC had the best
why Akeem did not start AND refs calling fanthom fouls on Akeem are reasons why Houston lost
Jordan. Perkins and worthy. I remember seeing them in the 91 nba finals
Originally from North Carolina been a Tarheel fan since Phil Ford and Al Wood. Go Heels!!
Wow. Wordless at the talents.

Go, Rookie Jordan!
If you want to watch something check out the 1982 final four when the heels were dominating the houston cougars and then Hakeem as a freshman who had only played bball for 3 years came off the bench and changed the whole game by altering and blocking shots and rebounding.
I didn't even recognize drexler with all that hair
That 1982 Shag. Him and Benny Anders
Whoever #23 is was a legend
It's nice to see the court with no 3 point line.
Any chance you could upload March 25, 1983 Houston v. Memphis State?
I can tell you about that game. Drexler had 6 fouls. The referees blew it. Drexler literally jumped over Andre Turner for a dunk. Houston won but Memphis played a good game
Jordan and Olajuwon would make the best Draft class of All Time : The '84 NBA Draft
Could be but most experts agree the '96 NBA Draft was the best of all time
What experts think that a class is better than Hakeem, Jordan, Barkley, Stockton, etc.?
Can y’all please upload Nevada-Cincinnati, Marshall-Wichita State and Syracuse-Michigan state as classics games please @MarchMadness 🤠😬
Jordan , Clyde Drexler , Akeem The Dream
03/27/1982 - 42 years ago
This final four was so star studded
39:28 .... When Big Game James is innit to winnit...You get spanked!
Yo people who.always say when you saw mj in college you didnt think hed be great,..that was cappp every college game I've seen he was moving differentiate thsn any player
Clyde had more hair in college 😁
As lot of us did!
19:13 pause 😂
That unusual shot reminds me of a person I call the Cresent Moon.... Silk Wilkes' cresent shot.
This game reminds me...The diff tween college n pro reff's.....Much more strict than college!
I have been considered a Tar Heels fan for years and since 1982 I have been without regret for the Heels Have Eyes 👀
Pabst Blue Ribbon
rip Dean smith
Guy Lewis should had taken Hakeem out of the game before his 3rd foul.
Drexler wearing #23? Didn’t know that
Dream straight up dominated the paint. No easy buckets for MJ, Worthy or Perk def a first. Wak calls on the Dream also.
We're you watching the same game as me? Hakeem was non-existent in this game
@@MeIn321you must be tripping, dude. Akeem(Hakeem)'s defensive play brought them back into the game from 0-16. Remove the blindfold or get some bifocals and rewatch again.

It seem like MJ was scare to shoot the ball) maybe he was on a lease by Dean smith*
He definitely wasn't scared to shoot the ball considering he made the shot which won the NCAA title that year. He was just unselfish and playing his role, he was only a freshman and he had other really good players on his team like Worthy and Perkins.

But Guy was an expert at blowing it at the final 4. Nobody found more ways to lose there.
Rob Williams was an all american. The Only all american that season for Houston. Hakeem was a redshirt sophomore, 1st year playing organized ball. Hey ,hey hey I remember watching this game oh my God I was 11 years old !!! God but I don't remember who won 😕
UNC
No Shot Clock and No 3pt Line. So weird
Jordan wearing Converse Allstars, lol.
This is like watching robots except for Drexler Jordan and James Worthy.
Jimmy Black was a baller
Because they respect the defense.
Houston wasn't ready.
Rob Williams, PG and team leading scorer went 0-8 from the field. He was the leader of the squad and they couldn’t overcome his performance.
Houston wasn't quite Phi Slamma Jamma yet
Lol at North Carolina white bench players just passing the ball around the horn back and forth. Not like any of them are going to bust an explosive move .😂
Go tarhells James worthy Michael Jordan wow
I will be there explosive move.
Racist much? 🤨
Like Houston had a chance in this game. That's hilarious 😂 😅
Mj got his dreams come true become the first nba player of billionaire
HAKEEM 27:13
Not as much as those I mentioned
Who's 23 still trying to figure it out
