Been a Cubs fan since late 60's. Seen Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Andre Dawson, Bill Buckner, Bill Madlock, Rafael Palmero...all great players...I think Mr. Sandberg had all 5 tools, maybe a 6th, as his feel for the game makes him my all time favorite Cub. Thanks for the memories Rhyno!
Ryno, you will be always my favorite player!!!! Even though they final won in 2016...that 84 team is still my favorite of all time! Thank you, Ryno for the baseball memories!!!!!
If it wasn't for Carey/Stone, Sandberg, and wgn I wouldn't have known how great and how terrible the Cubbies were. Even though I have hometown team now I'm still and always will be a Cubs fan at heart.
Harry Caray was hilarious by the end of the game he was drunk and he’d slap his lips together especially when he was eating. There will never be another announcer like Harry Caray.
I remember my pops telling me the story of him recruiting Ryno to play QB at UW. He told him he’d never make it as a baseball player. My dad being a massive Cubs fan always had a laugh about it...
I remember the Mets also starting to be good, and it was extra fun that usual two worst teams were now the best in the division battling it out. $5 walk up bleachers seats.
I’ll admit I never saw Rogers Hornsby or some of the other greats play, like Charlie Gehringer, Eddie Collins, Robinson, but I’ve seen all the modern ones, and I think Sandberg’s the best I’ve ever seen. And yes, better than Morgan and Alomar.
He’s the best I’ve ever seen at the position. When he retired he was Top 3, but you could say Alomar passed him. Biggio was close, but nowhere near as smooth with the glove. When Sandberg first retired, he was usually ranked 2nd behind Morgan. He came back in 1996-97 and it kind of hurt his legacy. Sandberg was the most complete player in baseball in his prime from 84-92.
He was a Bonafide threat early in his career. He was like watching Mickey Mantle at 2nd base. Sandberg was a true natural and the first 5 tool 2nd baseman (he had a lot more power than Morgan, who is still the best ever).

harry carriee was annoying and thought himself bigger than a game in the player and all he did was read names of people in the stadium which was particularly annoying to listen
It was so meaningful to see Sandberg in the locker room in Cleveland on that great November night in 2016!
I always say 1984 was like a Greek tragedy - so wonderful with the most painful ending imaginable.
84 was the first time a lot ( me )of Chicagoans got a taste of a pennant race, what a great season that was, and the heartbreak...
Ryno! Simply the best.

Can’t argue, although Ernie in his prime with back to back MVPs on terrible teams, was no doubt his equal and had superior power.

Best summer ever. I was 12 years old, watched the Cubs every game and yes, I cried after game 5 vs the Padres. lol.
Steve Garvey hater for life😄
WGN , Harry Carey and Ryne is why I became a Cubs fan and thank you Philly for trading him to the Cubs in 1982
Darn good reason , Sandberg was a breath of fresh air for cubs fans .
Ryno & Jody Davis. Awesomely 1984. Priceless
My favorite player ever!!!!!
Great to hear Sandberg. Bona fide club legend. Good times, even though we didn't win the Series. Still love those guys!
Ryno brings back a lot of memories. Such a different time

My favorite Cub player

Awesome interview!
As an aging old Chicagoan, thanks Greenie!

Class act🙏
Ryno know how you feel 84 still bothers me too.
I was at that game!
As a Cleveland fan I will keep my editorial on the Cubs to myself.
I remember the Mets also starting to be good, and it was extra fun that usual two worst teams were now the best in the division battling it out. $5 walk up bleachers seats.
lifetime Cubs fan here. Just cancelled my MLB app because I'm so tired of the politics.
Greenberg is looking like the local guy who starts coming Into the bar more and more everyday.

He top 5 greatest 2th basemen of all time

Alomar was better.
@@sportscastercanada does he have MVP you smoking p.r rocks
@@sportscastercanadaYour opinion.
The older Ryno gets the more he resembles Jack Brickhouse.
Lets go Oakland!!!⚾🥇
I believe one of the players in the Manny Trillo trade
hes right the 84 team miss out but they should be glad the tigers were unbeatable that year
didnt know he was fast
He stole 50+ bases one year

@@shanemcbride4953 He was the fastest "white" guy in baseball for a while. He had real speed and could of stole way more than he did.
Ok and?
