So many people see video game collecting as an unfortunate quality in a person, but I don't think those people entirely understand what video game collecting is. It's a hobby. Some people make furniture or create art, etc. as a hobby, and some people collect things. There's rock collectors, who buy minerals that are valuable or simply bring them closer to a complete collection, and they know what they need to know about those minerals. Sure, you could argue that some types of minerals look cool, but video games are fun. You can play video games, and, like a rock collection, you can sell them! You benefit no matter what, so long as you're smart and reasonable about collecting. But of course, the main point that those who argue against the hobby of video game collecting is that they don't have a life. Let me explain something to those people. Just because these collectors often have what looks like an overflow of video game merchandise does not mean that is their entire house, or their entire life, for that matter. You can't know how much time these people spend finding and buying these things. You can't possibly know about their life outside of what they show you. So, when they show you a room with every wall covered in things related to video games, that is all you see. When they explain what they're showing you, that is all you hear. They are only showing you small snippets of their life. Unless they mention it somewhere, you can't know for sure whether or not they have a partner or spouse. Obviously, it is possible that what some of them show you is their life, and they could be completely antisocial and reclusive. But to say things like "You collectors don't have girlfriends" and "uhhmm, you need to get a life" are extremely ignorant statements, unless you could justify those statements with evidence, which, by the way, you could only get by directly asking the person or people you are judging. I myself am not a collector of anything. But I believe in the truth, so if you're going to say or type hurtful things about video game collectors, or anyone, for that matter, just know that for anyone to agree, it must be justified. Otherwise, you're just going to make yourself look like an ignorant fool. Thank you for your time.
'[D]o not own anything in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.' Is a hobby not useful? Is a collection not beautiful? I have a small rock and coin collection, a miniatures collection, a LEGO collection, a small book collection, a large DVD collection, and a Harry Potter collection, across three rooms. I have been collecting for years, mostly cheaply. Now I'm starting a video games collection. I have been playing video games since age five. It was my first love (is love not useful, beautiful?). Started with GoldenEye 007 on the N64 -- one of the most profound video games of all time. And I have been collecting in some form or another my entire life, from toys to pencils to cards to VHS. However, this *is* my life. Beyond what I just stated. I have nothing. I have one simple, cheap laptop with very little on it. I don't own many clothes. I don't sing or play music or dance or do sports. I don't have a car or a phone. I don't drink, take drugs, smoke, eat meat, have many friends, have jewellery, or otherwise. I live a simple life. I just have my few, mostly small and cheap, collections/hobbies. I am, in fact, somewhat of a minimalist. And I believe minimalism relates to video game collecting quite well, in fact. And I rather discovered I am a minimalist in my way of thinking and taste, even food. I am very simplistic when it comes to food. If you take out of my DVDs, books, LEGO, video games, Harry Potter items, miniatures, and the other collections, I have almost nothing whatsoever in my house and life. What you would be left with is a single mattress, a laptop, and some clothes. That's all I own, not related to my collections/hobbies... ... Make no mistake, collections and hobbies are useful, beautiful things. In the words of some, they keep us from war, they keep us from being Romans once again. Hobbies, work, entertainment, the arts, and so on keep us sane and moral in this strange world. Without such pleasures and fulfillment, there would only be bloodshed and darkness. The great H. G. Wells suggested in his book -- just two years before the war -- that tabletop wargaming (little wars) ought to take the place of real warfare. Such a wonderful world it would be if world leaders played with toy soldiers rather than nuclear warheads. And as wonderful as tabletop wargaming may be... is video gaming not greater? Are video games not the closest one can come to new realms and imagined worlds? Are video games not the only way one can truly live as an Arabic Prince, English King, vampire, or futuristic warrior, all from the safety and comfort of one's armchair? Can things not be learnt, gained, and improved from video games? Memory, tactics, strategy, coordination, muscle memory, creativity, friendship, hearing, freedom -- true freedom. From the world, the confines of one's own skull, one's own time period or anatomy; from one's own galaxy or universe. Is that not freedom? Is that not beauty? Useful? A life worth living?
It bothers me so much when people say "how much money do you have" and "I don't get why someone is collecting and not just play emulators". Is it so hard to imagine a grownup having a day job, earning his living and spending some money over time on his hobby? Is it so hard to understand that not everyone's the same and some people like different things than you do, like for instance, collecting? I don't collect myself, but it brings me joy to see someone having a nice hobby and loving every part of it. I don't see what's so hard to understand here.
Simply put too, it takes time to earn them. Nothing comes easy without working hard for it. Everything you see with collectors take time and isn't all given at once. All is not free without without pain and effort.
BreadBowl It's not hard to pack at all, this is easy to pack. It's all nice and neat. Unlike other peoples houses where it looks like a hoarder house. I hate those. This is a nice small space, he's needs a bigger space to have more breathing room.😃
Pete, I love this game room update, it's super awesome! Ok that general and positive message aside, here's a giant rant that needs to be said. People on this comments thread are so rude/presumptuous/judgmental/generally awful! I guess I can understand why collecting is a hobby that could be misunderstood if you don't do it yourself, but why the hate? How is it anyone's business how Pete or any other collector spends their money? First of all - he's probably amassed this collection over the course of his general life time. There's probably a good 20+ years of collecting games and merch displayed in this one room, it's not like he's a millionaire and got the money to blow it all on this stuff out of nowhere. But secondly, I don't see how anyone can determine what is worth spending money on for somebody else - It's obvious that this is his hobby and passion. What some people spend on clothing or shoes or food, he probably spends on video games. Why does what YOU happen to deem more worthy of spending money on have to apply to every other person? It's not only condescending, it's just ridiculous. You're putting your own standards of what deems a happy healthy life and projecting it onto a total stranger. I also think all the personal attacks are just really harsh and hateful. He doesn't talk about his personal life on his videos - does that automatically make him a virgin or a loser? I mean - not that any of that is your business to begin with, but even if he was single, why does that have to determine his worth as a person? Which, btw, being a collector, video game enthusiast, or a "nerd" doesn't automatically label you as a loser who "can't get pussy." That's a bunch of bullshit - if you are passionate about something and pursue it for your hobby or professionally, it's usually a plus. Note for desperate guys: A girl who can't accept your hobbies or interests is not the right girl for you to begin with. That's a whole other rant though. I just can't understand what your assumptions about his relationship status or living situation should have to do with this video - you don't know his life! You're just looking at this collection and automatically judging and assuming that he doesn't have anything else going on, and really - if that's the amount of evidence you need in order to judge someone's worth, all of YOU are truly the pathetic ones. It just riles me up so much to see all the crap that people put onto someone who has spent their time, energy, and money into doing something that they really genuinely love doing. Just because it's maybe not as socially "cool" or "mainstream." Unless he's in debt and spending his money poorly and needlessly, or irresponsibly (which I highly doubt considering all his other videos on how to be a smart spending/collector) none of you should have anything to fucking say about what he does in his free time or with his own money that he's earned for himself. End of story. Also, the amount of time and effort that goes into giving back by making TH-cam videos is super commendable. It's about contributing back into a community, and it's admirable, not something to be looked down on. When you critical assholes have something worthy to give back to a larger community of people, then maybe you can think twice about starting to spread your unwanted negativity.
This video definitely made me want to collect games. Crazy watching it again 8-10 years later! Awesome tour and collection, I wonder what it is like today.
That gameboy collection would drive me insane!!! If i were in that room, i would re organize it. Yeah, ive had bad ocd even as a kid. I couldnt even walk down a toy isle without re organizing it.
Pete this is the best example of organized hoarding I've seen. You have the most amazing collection I've ever laid eyes upon, btw your Ico and Shadows collection is amazing!
Game collecting is expensive. I am a former collector and trust me, unless you get lucky with finds, the costs are stupid. I collected for 4 years before I quit and besides the obvious reason of not enjoying it anymore, the cost was too much. I mean, I want to travel, get a nicer car and just in general have a large savings bank account. It was thousands a year on games to just sit on a shelf. It wasn't worth it and I'll be honest, when I think about all the money I threw away on my stupid game collection, I want to cry. I went from buying games I really wanted every now and then to buying on average 3 games a week just to have them. I'll be honest, if you want to legally play retro games, just use something like Steam or the Virtual Console. Much cheaper and it doesn't take up an entire room. I love video games but a near death in my family pretty much made me think about how sudden life can potentially end and I'd rather travel the world, have a lot of cash and a family than thousands of old, mostly bad quality video games I don't care about. Also, I think I collected because I was depressed and I would feel happy and felt like I was doing something building this collection. Sure, it looked cool when I got my room in order but at the end of the day, I was lonely, sad and I needed more in life than Intellivision or SNES games.
AvengingOttsel I agree. Pete can do what makes him happy. I just wanted to share my view with game collecting. It was fun for probably two or three years but within the last year I just didn't care much for it anymore. I did get excited again a few months ago and decided to go for a complete Sega Genesis collection but in the end I was buying a lot of bad games and the money adds up and in the end it was just for plastic to sit on a shelf.
I do all of those things while collecting. Sounds to me like the problem was either 1.) You were trying to collect WAY too much in too short of an amount of time (Pete's been accumulating his collection his whole life, not just four years) or 2.) You need a better job.
Game stop and Funcoland were both under the Barnes and Nobel umbrella until 2004 when Gamestop became it's own entity. They did not 'buy out' Funcoland. Gamestop was first publicly traded in 2002 though. I worked for Funcoland in 1996, and I currently work for Gamestop.
3 and a half years ago I watch a room video and all I had was a X Box360. I now have 6 consoles and 3 handhelds. Thank you Pete for the inspiration to get back into older games. Great room tour also.
My parents never did that because they paid for the consoles when I was a kid, there was no way they were just gonna give them away lmao. They'd get pissed at me for selling them
I'm catching up on some old Pete Dorr videos and was so happy to see you have a copy of Orb-3D. Most people hate that game, but I love it! I setup the SRC leaderboard (with a very tasteful custom site logo), created the TAS, and now I'm currently working on speed running guides for what seems like nobody 🙃
Μan your room (Which is superb I must say) looks like a small video game store back from the early 90s when I was a kid. I 've seen your video more than 8 times, so many memories !!
Pete could you please tell me where you got the MVS Boxes from? Im also starting to collect AES/MVS Modules but the most of them are withouth the original Box.
YO GUYS!!! news flash having a big game collection has nothing to do with having a girlfriend or being a virgin look at Alpha omega sin, Happy Console gamer,Metal Jesus rocks Hell he's married! All you need to get women is confidence, good conversation, last but most important good hygiene, there's some other stuff but those are the norm. You guy's making the virgin comments are probably virgin's yourselves without the huge gaming collection.
The Dude only a virgin would think “have good hygiene” is useful advice when attracting the opposite sex. If you need to be reminded of that there’s no hope for you.
Great video Pete. My friend just gave me his boxed Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Evermore, FF2 and FF3 and a bunch of N64 Games. This has made me want to collect again.
watching tours of people's game room's, really makes me wish I had kept all the games and game system's I got as a kid. Though it wouldn't even be half the size of this guys collection, I wish I could have it all back just for the memories
lestat34208 the sad thing is that even if they watched they probably didn't understood it : ) (i'm not talkin of anyone in particular, i'm just sayin that not everyone really understands that movie!)
+PyroPD Even though many do poke fun at what Gamestop does offer for cash or credit, Ive always got a pretty fair price for what I do trade in and put it towards the purchase of something else. Ive gotten as high as $40 for a trade in and then as low as $.50 - the game sucked and I didnt care
Amazing collection Pete! I noticed that you owned the first 3 seasons of Lost, I don´t know if you have seen the rest of the series but if not, you should, Best TV show ever!
I don’t mean this as a troll, I Mean this with all due respect. But I’m not impressed. I mean, I’m great in terms of quantity, but qualitatively it’s very messy, unorganized, and claustrophobic. He has some organizational scheme, granted, but mostly it’s just cluttered, probably not dusted, and..... idk I’m more impressed with game rooms that take the time to make it look presentable, organized, clean, comfortable. I feel like I’d have a panic attack being in there more than 5 minutes.
Thanks Pete for posting these tours! The only thing I'd fix for the next tour is to pan through the various titles more slowly. You speed by them too quickly so it's just a blur. I can't make out the titles and it gets me nauseous. Anyway, keep up the good work!
He gets asked this a million times and it's in his FAQ. Last time I checked I think he worked at bestbuy, but stuff like this just builds up when it's your passion.
couldnt help but notice that solitary nintendo game and watch there pete.do you have others?im an older gamer and i started on these back in the early 80's,i have been collecting them but boy theyre pricey!that room is simply awesome man,a real credit to a serious collector!
no one can ever say I have too many games. If they do - I can just show them your game room - so jealous but man that is an amazing amazing collection of gaming history you have. Maybe think about opening a museum one day?
i watched your whole room tour your the reason i starting collecting 2 years ago when i saw your frist room tour it made me wanna collect so thanks pete for being so awesome
From what i heard, and idk if its true but apparently his house is paid for and insured by his parents, so all the money he makes from working full time as a cashier at bestbuy is what he uses to travel, and pickup games so often
No Commodore 64 in the mix - you need to add that to your collection. SO many amazing and great games came out for C-64 and people will be surprised at some that came out for it
i truly loved the ICO & SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS shrine. that was subliminal bro, SOTC is 1 of my top20 best games ever created, a true master piece o beauty & wisdom
I think this is actually really cool! I wish I could collect like I used to. I moved when I was a child and all of my PS1 games went missing so I want to start after, but I'm not sure yet- but you have inspired me!
in the UK they closed this old arcade down and they put this big 5 foot sculpture of Sonic and Scratch in the garbage. I use to go to that arcade all the time and when the people came to close it down I assumed they'd keep that stuff but it was just deemed trash by the workers. I went to try and see if they'd give it to me and it was already lost in the dump.
I clicked on this and was going to watch around 20 mins or so tonight, then another bit tomorrow and so on. But next thing I know, I've watched the full video! It was so interesting! Love your handheld collection, and the Mario and sonic toys! I'm watching the Sonic X anime at the moment, I remember it was on during my childhood, do you watch it? Just wondering how old are you and if you study or work ?
Love the Funcoland sign, I remember that being in my small town and they had all the best stuff ever for a old school gamer like myself. Too bad Gamestop took over it.

It sucks when your mom donates all your old gaming consoles and games such as the SNES, N64, Game Boy's to some one!
My parents never did that because they paid for the consoles when I was a kid, there was no way they were just gonna give them away lmao. They'd get pissed at me for selling them
It's 2015, how the hell do you have space?
How many games do you own that you've never played?
I'm catching up on some old Pete Dorr videos and was so happy to see you have a copy of Orb-3D. Most people hate that game, but I love it! I setup the SRC leaderboard (with a very tasteful custom site logo), created the TAS, and now I'm currently working on speed running guides for what seems like nobody 🙃
Μan your room (Which is superb I must say) looks like a small video game store back from the early 90s when I was a kid. I 've seen your video more than 8 times, so many memories !!
Pete could you please tell me where you got the MVS Boxes from? Im also starting to collect AES/MVS Modules but the most of them are withouth the original Box.
you drowning in your obsession, dude
It's called having a hobby
nice game room, nice games.
WOW man, wow, your game room made me smile. Really awesome.
Its been 7 Years Pete, Im from Argentina and a BIG FAN! and i request the updated version jajaja!
Emm I see you like sonic.
imports make me want to learn to at least read and speak japanese.
YO GUYS!!! news flash having a big game collection has nothing to do with having a girlfriend or being a virgin look at Alpha omega sin, Happy Console gamer,Metal Jesus rocks Hell he's married!
@@emarskineel go wash if you smell, the original comment was perfect
Great video Pete. My friend just gave me his boxed Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Evermore, FF2 and FF3 and a bunch of N64 Games. This has made me want to collect again.
watching tours of people's game room's, really makes me wish I had kept all the games and game system's I got as a kid. Though it wouldn't even be half the size of this guys collection, I wish I could have it all back just for the memories
How do u get ur money?
Mommy and Daddy obviously. There is no way he accumulated all those games by working while still in school.
Leon R
did you watch the video? he said he grew up in the 90’s... so how he can be still in school? you are obviously just one more jealous hater
Rikoeip he lives with his parents.
The things you own, end up owning you.
You must be fun at parties.
LobsterTaco I usually get too drunk, so yes.
Dan Mac The things you write, is pure nonsense.
lurifix I guess no one watched fight club here lol ha!
lestat34208
the sad thing is that even if they watched they probably didn't understood it : ) (i'm not talkin of anyone in particular, i'm just sayin that not everyone really understands that movie!)
you say lenticular alot ahaa
You grew up playing sonic games when you were younger? I thought you grew down when you were older.. Thanks for explaining it Einstein
Wtf
This was the first video I looked up when I first bought my tablet. Keep up the great work Pete
Mommy and Daddy spoiled someone growing up.
If i was him, i'd sell all these games and get me some facial plastic surgery
looks won't make anyone truly happy in the long run bud, it also fades in every human-being in the end..
gamestop: Yea the best I can do with this is $7.50. Would you like in-store credit?
+PyroPD Even though many do poke fun at what Gamestop does offer for cash or credit, Ive always got a pretty fair price for what I do trade in and put it towards the purchase of something else. Ive gotten as high as $40 for a trade in and then as low as $.50 - the game sucked and I didnt care
...What if your house caught on fire... lol
Insurance lol. You insure anything worth a lot of money...
Great collection, Pete. Very thorough tour of your game's collection room. Really enjoyed it.
Amazing collection Pete! I noticed that you owned the first 3 seasons of Lost, I don´t know if you have seen the rest of the series but if not, you should, Best TV show ever!
Collecting is just a glorified version of hording
Dumbest thing I've heard in a long while
do you like sonic ? lol
I was going to make that very comment
josh bell
do you like “evil dead”? lol
I don’t mean this as a troll, I
Mean this with all due respect.
I know this video is super old but wow what ever your hobby there is always someone into it ten fold.
really impressive stuff. Not only you have a huge collection , but the room is also really tidy
Virginity.
People who bring sex into topics that have nothing to do with sex are super insecure.
Life of a virgin in HD.
he's a level 99 wizard
someones jealous
Would love to see an updated Tour video, dude! Keep up the awesome work!
one of the best if not the best game rooms i've ever seen
Its nearly been another 4 Years and 2 Months... You doing another one of these :D
Dang 8 years ago its about time for a new one?
Thanks Pete for posting these tours! The only thing I'd fix for the next tour is to pan through the various titles more slowly. You speed by them too quickly so it's just a blur. I can't make out the titles and it gets me nauseous.
Anyway, keep up the good work!
He gets asked this a million times and it's in his FAQ.
Last time I checked I think he worked at bestbuy, but stuff like this just builds up when it's your passion.
What I find most impressive personally about the room, isn't the games, but the toys and memorabilia.
couldnt help but notice that solitary nintendo game and watch there pete.do you have others?im an older gamer and i started on these back in the early 80's,i have been collecting them but boy theyre pricey!that room is simply awesome man,a real credit to a serious collector!
It's amazing how many games you have I haven't even heard of .
no one can ever say I have too many games. If they do - I can just show them your game room - so jealous but man that is an amazing amazing collection of gaming history you have. Maybe think about opening a museum one day?
Wow, the visual stimuli is amazing!
i watched your whole room tour your the reason i starting collecting 2 years ago when i saw your frist room tour it made me wanna collect so thanks pete for being so awesome
From what i heard, and idk if its true but apparently his house is paid for and insured by his parents, so all the money he makes from working full time as a cashier at bestbuy is what he uses to travel, and pickup games so often
Enjoyed that Pete. The hour went by quickly on my end.
This video is over 1 hour long but didn't bore me for a second.... great gaming room !
You have an absolutely beautiful collection Pete! It must be a pain to maintain and dust.
WoW that is a more then a collection,, that is a nest egg for your retirement.
Must be one of the most epic personal collections iv'e seen on youtube.
+AFTER DARK Nest egg for retirement? Naw, man - that is what Patreon is for, right?
you are awesome dude, never lose that youthful spirit
Wow i can't believe I actually watched the whole video..this is one impressive collection !
Welcome To GameStop Is The First Thing That Came To My Head
Wow, this my first i know if there people with huge collectors Gamers...wow amazing
Great collection, so much nostalgia.
No Commodore 64 in the mix - you need to add that to your collection. SO many amazing and great games came out for C-64 and people will be surprised at some that came out for it
Your room looks like a store...it's amazing
Where did you get the clear display case for your handhelds? That's nice. Awesome collection!.
i truly loved the ICO & SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS shrine. that was subliminal bro, SOTC is 1 of my top20 best games ever created, a true master piece o beauty & wisdom
That's so cool that you have those selves for the handhelds
Dang.. This guys takes this shit to a whole new level.
bout that time again pete
2024 update when Pete?
I think this is actually really cool! I wish I could collect like I used to. I moved when I was a child and all of my PS1 games went missing so I want to start after, but I'm not sure yet- but you have inspired me!
in the UK they closed this old arcade down and they put this big 5 foot sculpture of Sonic and Scratch in the garbage. I use to go to that arcade all the time and when the people came to close it down I assumed they'd keep that stuff but it was just deemed trash by the workers. I went to try and see if they'd give it to me and it was already lost in the dump.
Even though I cannot own as much games and toys as you, it is always a pleasure to see your sharing. Thanks! Please share more! :D
Great Game Collection! I really enjoyed watching the updated room tour.
What...the...shit...
Everything combined, I wonder how much all of that is worth now, not to mention 15-20 years.
Awesome, dude!
Also a big recommendation for your MVS collection. Windjammers (US) Flying Power Disc (JP). Super fun with friends easy to learn hard to master.
holy shit you actualy have my favorite game of all time Grandia 2.... is super rare
goddamn this is just insane, awesome collection pete!
Your collection blows my mind! That's what I'm working towards
Just wondering how old are you and if you study or work ?
which do you like more, retro games or newer games?
Love the Funcoland sign, I remember that being in my small town and they had all the best stuff ever for a old school gamer like myself. Too bad Gamestop took over it.
