the way i saw war and peace in the store the other day and seriously considered picking it up before i had a reality check like, “you’re not gonna read that, be so for real” lmao
maybe it’s a sign 👀 you definitely can!!! Don’t think of it as 1,300 pages, break it down by volume and tackle each one separately- that’s what I’m doing x
I've read War and Peace several times now, and it never disappoints. You will find so many universal themes being discussed with a strong sense of the astute; it's crystal clear, like a piece of shaved mineral, what it was Tolstoy was trying to do. I hope you aren't disappointed.
I read it this year too over January and February. Loved it, such an incredible book, so many great characters. I also read the Briggs and found it an incredibly lucid read. Looking forward to rereading it over and over again. Thanks for the video.
I came across your channel randomly and i'm literally so grateful. I could tell just from the thumbnail that it'd be a great one so I got myself a warm cup of coffee as i took a break from long hours of studying. Its safe to say that you're gonna be one of my favourite comfort youtubers now💗
This is such a lovely idea + your personality is so genuine! Yay for documenting this for yourself first and foremost! I'm stoked this popped up on my recommended vids ❤
Best of luck i have tried to read this 5 times i have a copy of this from 1943 i am starting to read i am Barbara and its 985 pages a little daunting good luck
TH-cam served me with your video, now I'm invested. Personally I am terrified of all classics, but this has inspired me to challenge myself this year and read 1 classic. Good luck with reading it and cannot wait to see part 2 in my subscription box! Greetings from the Netherlnads :)
Oh what a lovely message 💕 thank you so much!! Well done you for challenging yourself!! I’d recommend Little Women if you haven’t already read it ♥️ it’s one of my favourites
I read this book for the first time, not fully understanding it, when I was 17 years old. Ten years later, by age 27, I had read the book 10 times! I remember the last read as being this grand experience of watching probably one of the best movies ever seen, because after previous reads, I knew all the characters, and had my own visuals of them that fit their personalities, and knew the story as if it were my own fable. It was amazing experience! In Hollywood I think the best actors for the book would be a young Mel Gibson as Pierre, Keanu Reeves as Count Nikolai Rostov, Cary Elwes as Prince Andrei.
The best part of Crime and Punishment is the first 100 pages, after that, the plot and storyline get muddled by unneeded and too wordy dialogue. I'm talking chapter lengths of dialogues and sermons😂 You should read Doesteovskys novel only for the first part, serious.
We are doing it in my book club now (over 4 months). As long as you have printed out list of characters to refer to not that difficult a read eg easier than Dostoyevsky or certainly Virginia Wolfe. There is website comparing translations I like Maude since Tolstoy approved of it. NB: not needed to read history since doesn’t matter what historical figure of eg kutuzov is like ; he is a plot device, like all of historical stuff. Tolstoys views of history fit very well with eastern spirituality [SPOILER] eg Kings are slaves of history
Thy pointer finger can become a sword, and in the mirror might you knight yourself. The coiled labyrinths our thumbs preserve remember Tristan’s knighting by Iseult. Thou art more than someone who has to work. You’d find yourself behind the pharaoh’s mask and wouldn’t want to labor anymore; the righteous mount within you gallops back. You’re less employee; more a human being who didn’t come to Earth to pay to live. We’d have empires falling at our feet, and have a better January 6th. Look closely on thy finger’s mini-maze. Let’s live for free, and never live like slaves.. my name is Nicholas Leonard, and this is a sonnet that I wrote
So fun fact: the word for "peace" is the same in russain as the word for "world"! So it kinda gives a second meaning to the original title :p
Ah that’s so interesting! Thank you for sharing x
