It's rare (and so difficult to pull off) when a sketch is pitch perfect in every moment, and on top of that, has a huge twist/reversal that completely works with what came before it. Amazing.

It's not the excessive blood that's funny, it's the sharp turn the sketch took. The extended length of bleed time lets the audience have a moment to react to what was happening. I'm only mildly surprised I had to explain this because autism, unlike god, is real.

Their pre-recorded/filmed performances are usually much much better than their performances filmed live in front of an audience. Here, you're hearing the audience respond to a meticulously crafted, practiced, and reshot-until-perfection recording. The same was true with Key & Peele. Live, they were corny and not so funny. Recorded, brilliant and knee-slapping all the way.

I didn't see a full decapitation coming, but my thoughts were, "I know that they're going to stand on their desks and that ceiling fan is awfully low." I knew that the fan was going to figure in somewhere, but damn.
What’s so great about this sketch too is that they do such a great job re-enacting this scene from Dead Poets Society from the little movements and the script that especially if you’ve seen the film you would have no idea what’s about to happen. 😂

yesterday, my animation professor showed this to us as an example for comedic timing and shock value in comedy. That last part caught all of us off guard and I could barely breathe with how hard we were all laughing
I have never seen SNL this dark before like.. my jaw actually dropped. Also idk if it's that time of the month or something but I was really into the sentimental aspect of this skit n like I wanted 2 sing my song 4 all 2 hear..
It's rare to see something dark and gory on SNL since it requires a lot of effects work. The closest one is a live sketch with Will Ferrell playing a journalist that gradually becomes cannibalistic and eats someone off screen with blood splattering on him.

I think that's what made it funny. At first you are like, "Oh, great, taking off on an old classic." But when it got to the point where the head sliced off, then you see the punchline. A lot of SNL sketches don't even get to a punchline.
I think my favorite part about this sketch is that despite the long buildup it’s totally loyal to the rule threes in that his head gets chopped up in three ridiculous ways

It's rare to see something dark and gory on SNL since it requires a lot of effects work. The closest one is a live sketch with Will Ferrell playing a journalist that gradually becomes cannibalistic and eats someone off screen with blood splattering on him.

I think that's what made it funny. At first you are like, "Oh, great, taking off on an old classic." But when it got to the point where the head sliced off, then you see the punchline. A lot of SNL sketches don't even get to a punchline.
Also at 2:32 if you listen carefully there's a group scream stock footage from Buffy The Vampire Slayer when they opened the door to see vampires.
It was pretty good, but shock humor isn’t really my thing, although a lot of their skits with shock humor are really funny.
