Beautiful Woman 🤎🖤😍🖤🖤😍😍
🤎
I'm glad that you picked her. Dark skinned black girls need to see themselves represented in the industry....
🤎
Colorism from her own mother?! How disgusting!! Self hatred is a mental illness. I'm grateful a PIONEER such as Naomi Sims knew her self worth and her beauty. May she rest in heavenly peace. 😔🙏🏾❤️🕊️🤎
My grandma experienced colorism from her mother. Her mother hated her and treated her brother better because he's light skinned. You should never be surprised where colorism is concerned.
My mother was a colorist as well and didn't really embrace being a black woman. She would constantly compare me to white classmates and schoolmates. She would was dismissive of any racism I endured. She just wasn't a good role model to me as a black woman.
At the beginning of her career she circumvented the agencies and went straight to the photographers. She was a teenager. She started her own business at age 25. She was clearly absolutely brilliant! Wow! Very clear eyed. A true legend. 🔥🔥🔥
My mom went to high school with her. Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. She said she was always a bit different and fashionable.
Naomi Sims was huge back in the day and her name was common in a black household. My mom had everything by her. Thank you for covering this phenomenal woman.
She was absolutely beautiful. R.I.P. Queen 👑💖 🙏
I remember seeing her image as a child. She was a beauty so glad she came through all the adversities and had a good life.
Beautiful & very well spoken...I can empathize with her and her mother's situation. I wasn't in foster care, but I did get adopted as a baby. I remember countless nights asking for my biological mother. If you have both parents in your life, treasure them...everybody does not unfortunately ❤
She reminds me of a crane, such a tall elegant body. And too many people, especially of colour go for lighter foundations and end up looking like a different person. You can see how classy and beautiful dark skin is. You do not need to use all the contouring and highlighting.
Naomi was such a gorgeous woman and yes she definitely personified "black is beautiful". I first learned about her in my early to mid 20s. There was a debate whether she or Donyale Luna was the first black supermodel. They both were trailblazing and iconic in their own rights. I can relate to the colorism Naomi went through. My mother was also a colorist who favored whiteness over blackness and also cared more for my younger sibling than myself.
She was absolutely gorgeous
Noami Sims was a real beautiful black American women model. Her life story was about triumph and possibility and creating her own business. She was a naturally beautiful!! black woman who made it possible for Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Chanel Iman, etc. She is the essence of a real black supermodel who defied all odds in her life. Great! story Karine.
What incredible bone structure.
I’ve never heard of Sims but she was an icon…building an empire off her own name and image.❤️
Karine! Have you considered doing a breakdown of Empress Soraya of Iran?!
Please do!!!🫶🏻💞🫶🏻
Another great one. I absolutely loveeeeee this channel. You are very talented.........I see a successful Podcast in your future.........
🥺💖🙏🏼
I was her stylist at the salon that bore her name on 57th street,,, she lost everything I also worked with her African partner,,, she definitely was my idol growing,,, REST MY IN POWER QUEEN
😳😳 Why or how did she lose everything?
....would you PLEASE....be KIND...and tell us MORE....
Her son spoke about her bipolar disorder in an article. That was one of the main reasons. Even in her heyday she started being a no show for modeling jobs.
She had bipolar disorder and it was something she hid and it was hard for her to manage.
Wow! Such a great story. Beautiful chocolate woman, but brains to go with it. She was ahead of her time in modeling. Entrepreneur and class to boot. ❤
All her looks are classic…beautiful
I love her advice I want to add on that don’t think because you have dark skin automatically life will be harder I know people that are living the soft life.❤
It’s Dealing with BM ‘s burdens. That makes life harder! She Died because of Stress!
FACTS🙋🏾♀️@@G.G.276
@@G.G.276she had a white husband
I remember her makeup line. lovely foundation colors.
“Colorism from her mother?”😟That’s very sad. Reminds me of Zulekha Haywood and her mother. Don’t know much about Naomi Sims. Looking forward to watch.
Omg, I literally hate it so much zulekha and her mother aren’t close like they should be😭i kind of get mad when i see more posts of her sister on her moms ig page than her. She should write a book because i just know her childhood was exhausting with a supermodel mother and nba player dad. Just because the marriage was horrible with the father doesn’t mean that the relationship with the child should be strained
I like Iman but I have noticed how she talks more about her daughter with David Bowie, Alexandria, then she does Zulekha.
@@taylorwaylor8965plus she’s a big girl
My Sistas couldn’t win during those times… Ever they was too dark or too light….😡🤦🏿♂️
She was beautiful, my mother-in-law looks like her and she said she had compliments saying she looked like Naomi Sims since the 1970s. Plus my mother-in-law and Naomi were both born in 1948.
She was beautiful!
I remember her very well!!
Wow I’m a hairdresser and I’ve never heard of her thanks for sharing her story
I love your videos keep up the good work. Can you do a video on little Richard?
Thank you 🙏🏼 and yes I got you ❤
Gorgeous ❤️
Thank you for this wonderful story! I remember seeing Naomi Sims in magazines when I was a child. She was beautiful, her dark brown skin was flawless, and she looked statuesque and graceful. Seeing her in those magazines made me, a little dark brown girl, feel so special and beautiful🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
Great video !!! Did you know that her and Phyllis Hyman went to high school together ? Can you do a video on Peggy Dillard? She's the second black model to be on three American, Vogue covers with natural hair, behind Beverly Johnson.
Very beautiful and elegant, I have observed that many elite dark skinned women past and present end up with white men, it thus a coincidence or purposeful. I do know many dark skinned black women ae shunned by black men which is sad. The colorism runs deep , but it is sad that we don’t embrace our own features and looks and give our beautiful and all things good to others.
She's stunning! It amazes me every time i find out about these amazing black women from you Karine! Great video ❤
pure beauty!!!!
My gorgeous beautiful black Queen! RIP!!!😢😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Karine can you do a segment on Gail Fisher, black actress from the 1980’s - she was a co-star on show Mannix?
I love this video!! Your videos on both your mental gem and this channel are my comfort during my finals week... Side note: I would love to see a breakdown from the characters in Ugly Betty, especially Wilhelmina Slater.
Please make a video on Ronnie Spector ❤
Thank you!
Omg my new favorite ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎 Naomi Sims was one lady I admired who was beautiful and a great business lady. May she RIP. 🙏
Great to learn this about Naomi in another great video!
Please do a video about Yasmeen Ghauri, 90’s top
Super Model, of Pakistani (Muslim) and German decent. Yasmeen was bullied for her darker skin as a child and teen. She left at the height of her career to start a family. Very smart! She never partied or did drugs like other models in the 90’s. She is known for her unique catwalk and exquisite feminine face and form.
She has 2 daughters.
Queen
She was beyond gorgeous. I just love her so much. Also, if she was so healthy, how'd she pass from breast cancer? She was doing everything right. I don't understand.
Wow I never heard of her
Can you cover some old black painters ?
💖💖💖💖💖💖

Do a story on Ellen Holly

Shes beautiful perfect very beautiful woman 👠
A role model
🤎🤎🤎💪🏽
Her Mother was A Sadcase! WHERE WAS HER FATHER?
....NAOMI has said that she and her dad did have a good relationship......she learned how to take long strides to keep up with him....he too was very tall......
Her mother referred to her father as a absolute bum
I remember seeing her in my mom’s collection of fashion magazines from around that time. When I saw her I remember thinking how beautiful she was and how much I wanted to look like her. I’m white. My heart breaks for her about her mother 😢. Thank you for sharing her story! 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎 Completely off topic: those metal bras look like torture devices 😖 Look at how they’re digging in!
Well no she didn’t overcome colorism. It’s still very present. The South Sudanese models are putting the kabosh on it tho. She definitely challenged it and made a difference but she couldn’t get the work like say: Charlene Dash.
She is my relative.
