    Paradigm shift,
By destroying the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Israel broke international law and endangered world peace. Iran responded in a very balanced way by using its old drones and missiles to do little damage.
If Israel once again celebrates aggression, it will definitely be excluded from the world community.
Iran will be a far more attractive partner for the US in the Persian Arab region than Israel.
Israel will have to accept this, unless it wants to risk an Iran-Israel war, which would also mean the end of Israel.
A paradigm shift is currently taking place and that is encouraging.
What we need now, however, is the UN's irrevocable recognition of the Palestinian state so that the Palestinian population can live in security, self-determination and freedom

I don't think Iran was ever under the impression that Israel wouldn't respond. Iran had to respond in order to maintain the respect of its people. They tried to respond in such a way that Israel could dial it down without completely losing face, but I'm pretty sure that they never assumed that to be end result. After all, Israel hasn't dialed anything down for a very long time.

Before I make my comment I would like to clearly point out that, I'm in serious disagreement with the present regime in IRAN, in relation to Civil Rights of Women, or lack thereof.
I was born in Shiraz, and that would give many like me the propensity for siding with Ali. However, he's poorly informed regarding some issues such as the profound negative effects of Sanctions on IRAN!! IRAN is able to manufacture most of their own drugs and there doesn't seem to be any lack of fine medical doctors and nurses. And, as for diagnostic equipment such as imaging, some have already argued that IRAN has too many MRI machines, for example. But, despite all of the aforementioned, thousands of people have died and will continue to die from the lack of cancer medications for many of their fine oncologists to prescribe. Further sanctions will only cause more inhumane deaths for the innocent civilians, many of whom may be in disagreement with their government.
But, perhaps the most ill informed person regarding the issues in IRAN seems to be the son of the last puppet king. It was astonishing to hear him suggest more sanctions when his own father was in desperate need of treatment for leukemia when the land of his puppeteers (The US) turned him down for treatment in 1979.
