Faye, thanks for another terrific interview.
It’s incredible that Rima stood behind this cause, fully aware that it would put her own career in jeopardy. And she’s a prolific actor, at the peak of her career.
The WCC is truly blessed to have fearless and compassionate leaders like Rima, Parvathy, Bina, Deedi (among others) to drive the cause forward, relentlessly.

It's a privilege to belong to a land where women like Rima and the members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) stand tall, challenging the status quo. The reality is stark: women face rampant discrimination and sexual assaults in their workplaces, and it's time we confront this naked truth.
With the Hema Commission's findings now public, the veil has been lifted on the power structures that have long suppressed voices seeking justice in the Malayalam film industry. This is not just a moment for reflection but a turning point. We hold our breath, hoping for a sweeping, diabolical change-not just in cinema, but across every field where women are employed.
The time for silence is over. We demand accountability, respect, and an end to the toxic culture that has been allowed to fester for far too long.
We believe in you and stand with you as you all go against the tide.

Excellent.. And coming from a man. If everyone is educated well and right, they might learn to distinguish right and wrong..a lot seems to be learned behaviour led by the perpetrators and it's become a culture. We need to change the whole mindset remembering that our daughters might want to go into the field and then what? Live in fear that ninety nine percent she will be accepted for saying yes and rejected for saying no and she is left with very little choice to be in her choice of career? Actresses (and actors) need to feel safe and feel they are in the arts to be creative and another agenda should not even be in the picture.. Just like I never have to be concerned when I go into my schools to teach. Let every one who abuses now at least refrain out of fear of being 'exposed' even if not on sound moral judgement. Let there be changes.

It's really immaterial if it's coming from a male or female-it's about the dynamic between the oppressed and the oppressor. As a civilization, we've made significant strides, moving far beyond the days of misogyny and male chauvinism. Yet, culturally, we still cling to regressive and backward views. The right to equality and a safe workplace is fundamental. Unfortunately, safety concerns persist across industries. Now that the spotlight is on the glamorous world of film, we're finally talking about it.
Truly hope that at least one step towards betterment is strided because of this movement.

I salute WCC for the bold step they took. It's utterly disgusting that the Kerala government sat on the Committee Report for nearly 5 years. India is hardly a safe space for women at so many levels. Their abhorrent plight is in the news every single day. Indians may not change, but there can be, I hope, some legal measures with teeth that allow women to seek redressal of concerns that pose a threat to their wellbeing.

I feel proud that the Malayalam Cinema fraternity is courageous enough to bring these issues to light. We shouldn't dismiss Malayalam Cinema, especially when it's producing masterpieces recognized worldwide. The bottom-most truth about malayalam or any other indian filmy so called industry is that they are just a copycat place with very little room for creativity... with a few powerful families on top who will never let go of their style of playing the game and indulge themselves n their near n dear all the time... not much can be done bcz there will always be some people who can/will do anything to get a foot inside that door...

Kudos to the efforts. Looking forward for an industry which is safe for women and men. They shouldn't be waking up wondering if they have to face harassment or not. The only thing I don't agree with Reema is "believe women". Probably we can believe some women, probably 85% of women, but definitely not all women. There are many instances where some women misuse their rights. So the right thing is, work for the legal procedures to become more efficient, let the law run its course, and if proven guilty, punish the sinner.

There are thousands of Malayalam movie lovers outside Kerala. I'm one among them. I wonder if these crimes happened even in the Malayalam film industry. Since we stay very far, we know only the good face of the industry and its actors. It's because you shared your stories of sexual assault, we came to know the hidden and shameful face. It's the right time to take appropriate actions against the accused. Because there was a stage of time, when nobody believed in such allegations, now the time has changed, that the society is willing to listen and believe you. So please come forward for justice revealing your stories in front of the right system. We all pray for you as well as support you!

Status of Tamil cinema will be more filthy and horrible regarding sexual exploitation. But few actresses are willingly promiscuous for chances or money 😮

Rima, you are spot on. So proud to have such a genuine and wise actor in Malayalam industry. The grim fact is, even when the government asks women to come forward, the courts can simply quash these complaints given the lack of evidence (which is almost impossible to obtain for such acts such as molestation or professional isolation). So we're not sure what the government even meant by promising justice. Anyway, the real power is with the people of Kerala. Please go easy on the women who come forward, even if you are skeptical, please don't troll or harass them. India is a land of both gods and goddesses, we need to actualize that culture of balance and empowerment in our nation, not leave it behind once we step outside our temples.

Good truthreveal. Rima , keep the fight on . I have a suggestion . Why don’t you now set up a NGO , with specific purpose of starting a class action lawsuit against Malayalam movie industry , or specific persons who are guilty . Drum up support from ALL political parties and let us see which political party withholds support and if there is such party , voters must vote them out .

Sadly forced sex and rape has become institutionalized and normalized even amongst the victims as a desperate way of getting work and furthering their careers and out of necessity to sustain themselves. The old men sexual predators have created this mindset and climate for a long time now and they never thought that a day would come when this would come out and appear repugnant to good men and women of our country… this is why investigations ought to take place in all workplaces if victims come forward to seek help or restitution. Clearly the problem is more common and more serious in some industries like movies and music shows organizers especially in Mumbai. Many women are lured by the glamour of shows abroad where they are often raped or pressured to have sex in motel rooms and even in private homes in US Dubai and other parts of the world…. Some videos on private WhatsApp groups are testimony to that and could be used as evidence if victims are made aware of their existence and are willing to cooperate with authorities.

Extremely Elite actress Parvathy/ Rima/ Amala Paul , belongs to the most elite and educated class. Mamatha Mohandas and Mini Richard belongs to the NRI class. Parvathy is several notches above all. We are so proud of her. Extremely intelligent, of course there are many in WCC belong to her class.

Hats off to all the female actresses and legal team behind the Hema Committee. This shock and exposure of the chauvinistic males of the male dominating entertainment Industry was LONG OVER DUE. My appreciations to Hema committee report for DARING the DEVILS. On the same footing, it must be understood that, men take advantage when women are willing to succumb for various reasons.
Women or female actress who are willing to expose their skin on screen, should have the nerve to say NO offscreen also. It is such reluctance to say NO, encourages chauvinism. So, the Hema Committee must ensure the converse also is complied with. IT IS COMMONLY KNOWN TODAY AND IN THE PAST ALSO, THAT WOMEN DONT CHOOSE THIS INDUSTRY, UNLESS THEY HAVE ATLEAST SUBCONCIOUSLY DECIDED TO COMPROMISE IF NEED BE. This thing should change,

Kerala art and creativity especially in their cinema history needs to be appreciated. The Malayalam film industry was built on the backs of those that were pioneers and storytellers. And produced some legendary talents both male and female. Old and young. Sad to see its current state. Looks like all the success over decades was breeding a sick underbelly.
