well yeah.. thing is that the 3.8 can take turbo boost very well but not that great on supercharger boost .. but you are right on the i beam point .. but theoretically they are good up to 400hp at the flyw. but after that its nomans land .. i just hate that people pick on 3.8v6 alot underestimating a good build and the infamous "shoulda got the v8" line is very funny makes you wanna reply that they "shoulda got the v10 or v12".. there is allways a bigger fish ....
People are driving around in v6´s with stock bottom end and daily driving 475rwhp with occasional track runs and its holding up quite well .. so i dont know where you get that info from
Stop fighting. The issue here is that you can do a ton of power adding to a 3.8. The nay-sayers are full of shit. Buy it cheap. I have a 1997 Sn-95 and it took very little to make it LOOK just like a cobra 1996. Why not? If you want to blow your money on a car and over-priced mods, just buy a Corvette. I have one of those two and I can't choose a favorite between them. Mustangs are badass. That is all.
what do you mean by "good" everyone uses the stock one and hold out pretty good some ppl just port and polish it or get one that already is. look up "super six motor sports" they have different levles of port jobs. but if you want something different get the windstar intake. i have it on my car and its so sick
@pbushbaby You always mod the engine internals before doing a power adder, unless you only want to run about 7-8 psi... all the little ricer kids turn up the turbos on stock internals and KLABOW, you break something. I would recommend putting money into the engine before doing a power adder. It will be a waste of money to get TTs without internals, as you will run low amounts of boost to avoid breaking. Its not worth 3k (or more) to get 60-70 HP. You will be happier in the long run..
@bountyhunter4691 plus girls likes guys who drives mustangs over guys who drives camaros. The only exception might be that one transformer bumblebee camaro.
I know a buddy who made his hit 290ish before he blew a piston and the 2nd motor was built a bit more and he built it up at 320hp i think. he is now builting up another 3.8 that is going to be modded to hell. he is hoping to have a 11 second v6 with it.... and it is turboed
You need to spend a decent amount in order to have a car that is not a timebomb. Meaning, some of these kids will strap a big turbo on stock internals and make just as much RWHP. However the car will not last long. I have a few thousand into it... specs are listed on my gotstang site.
@219stangdriver I would not run 13 psi from a turbo on stock internals. It may last once, or twice, but will be a ticking time bomb. The v2 right now is being overspun at 7 grand. It peaks at about 16psi. Its making about 420 or so at the crank. On th way in is a Manual tranny, and a TT kit being started in January. Should see around 500 to the rear when im done. Ive been playing alot with my stock 5.0 recently.. love the sound :)
well like i said the best you can get is one from super six motor sports you will have to pay but to see the most gains you should also get the lower intake.
Your v6 is stock at 190 to the crank, once you add the exhaust intake and headers, you will see about 12 to 16hp. once you get the tune you may see an additional 15 or more and then the spacer i've heard bother good and bad about it... maybe 5 if your lucky. so you would be around 230 to the crank so more like 180 something to the wheels maybe 195. a turbo will add the i've heard 30 to 50% more power, if your running a safe tune and a stock motor.
hey bro, seeing all these turbo'd stangs has really convinced me bout getting a turbo for mine, but the thing i dont kno is, can u turbo an automatic stang? or does it have to be standard? nice car by the way
You are being awfully generous with those numbers. With full bolts on and a tuner you might see +15rwhp. The numbers just don't stack up like that. 205hp at the crank is more realistic. From there you might see 170 at the wheels.
@pbushbaby you said you were going to chip it, my advice is buy a SCT tunner, much more tunes and adjustments than a chip , and you will find you will get more out of a tune then a chip.
Turbo is badass, and is less stress on the engine, agreed. The one point you are incorrect on is the seperate oil. My V2 runs off the same oil as the engine oil... so I wouldnt use that as a differentiator.
How should I go about modifying my v6? I have a K&N air intake, FFRP Dual Exhaust, and is about to get bbk shorty headers...I've heard the throttle body and the spacer makes a big difference together about a 15-20 hp increase, and a tune is another 15-20 hp increase so before turbo charging a v6 you're looking at about 260-270 hp with bolt-ons? and some super chargers/turbo's are claiming about 75-100 hp increase so let's say that's 350hp roughly? for a v6 ?
@cacman1993 absolutely there is nothing wrong with getting the most out of what you got. Some people either could not afford the higher end model and had to settle on the body but the generic V6, you should have been around when they had 2.3liters in them. The reality is if it makes you happy, that is what counts. My 11 v6 smokes v-tecs and some GTs now just because of mods. And I paid 17K for it =)
All you camaro people Aleta remember, the mustang will beat the camaro. It looks a helluva lot better, it corners better, cheaper, lighter, more fuel efficient, and outsells te camaro almost every year. And the mustang has never been cancelled.
@232stang232 Actually, an auto is best for a turbo... you dont have to predict when the turbo is gonna kick in and what gear to goto etc... I should really have a manual for this vortech, only time I see top power is around 6k... which isnt seen often. The internals can handle it, and a manual can hold me whereever I need it to be. I have a manual 5.0 and was debating going turbo in the 6.. and moving the vortech to the 5.0... thanks for the comments
tranny was purchased as a kit, includes everything you need from mpsautosalvage for around 1100 (shippping is more).. I just picked up a used TMA turbo kit (they rock) for around 3000.. go on v6power or 3.8mustang and check the forsale forum.
@@JUSTALS400 best tip I can give after having Nitrous, supercharger, turbo - build your bottom end first - then turbo it - will cost $ to get any power - no "small" mods will get you what you want - just the reality of things - happy to help if you want to make the investment though
it bolts up to the stock drive shaft... this car had an auto in at the time... its a manual now.. just had to change the yoke from auto to manual... original drive shaft.

@compbumj I have a 3500 stall in my procharged 6 and love it. It has so much power out the hole, it's been 1.70 on the 60' in 100* air. Never run it in 60* weather, but I feel almost positive it could have cut 1.6's and run 7.3's.
CFMooCow i've been thinking of the same build with my v6 and this build here is at least 8-12k plus. The best advice i've had is to go for a 5.0 or a 4.6 which are close to the same price and are much better platforms. However, this car would embarass a stock 5.0.

Don't mod the V6, sell it. I have had a 98 V6 that I did an m90 swap on, 210rwhp 305 rwtq good for bottom 14s or lower with a tire, and now I'm trying to make the fastest stock stroke and heads roots blower mustang, doesn't seem that special but aiming for bottom 11s. If I could take it all back I would have just dropped a 351 in it and stroked it. It's a pretty easy swap on these. Modded V6 is worth nothing resale wise. I've had 2 fox's and 95 GT, a 302 or 351 motor can be had for under $500
So I got a question. How do u make a mustang v6 or v8 into a good car? I dont think its possible. Ive got a 95 v6 5 speed and its the biggest piece of shit ive ever owned. Guess u throw enough money at something it will eventually work.

Its just an OHV engine, not SOHC. You're thinking of the 4.0 V6 SOHC.
I agree though, very impressive.
