Maruki was someone I held close to through my playthrough because I’ve been to council in and therapy. I have plenty of regrets and things I wish I could change, but my therapist helped me more than I could’ve ever imagined. Seeing the main cast, characters who I related to more than any game, have therapy sessions with a man who talked so similarly to my old therapist reminded me of how much therapist truly help. And while I can see where Maruki was coming from in the third semester, I can’t agree with him because I realized I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in without my regrets. Humans are meant to have regrets so you can learn from them and grow as a person.
This explains why we could hear their voices in that dream. I kind of like these better tbh I do wish Futaba talked to Maruki about cognitive science though, and I see why they went with the tea time for Haru.
These do seem a little *too* on the nose. The team being firmly told they should ignore their problems is rather unsettling for a first play through. Although it does explain how Maruki finds out about their dreams.
Exactly what I was thinking By not giving them all solid voicelines, getting to the dream makes you think about where you've heard and seen those lines before.
I think part of the reason Futaba's needed to be cut out is because it feels...a bit too soon. She hasn't known Ren for that long. There's a good chance that the player wouldn't even have the Kindness to start her second Confidant at this point. I think she would need more time to develop such strong feelings for Ren.

Some of these feel really weird to me. I wish they had kept some of them, especially Ann’s, but it would be really weird to have some of them voiced and some of them not. Ultimately I prefer that they rewrote it (because it shows that they actually cared about the writing) but the trade off that it had to not be voiced almost makes it not worth it.
All of these Maruki scenes and talks with the PT really does prove that Maruki isn’t a evil or corrupt antagonist, he just really want to help, give back to the people who helped him, and makes sure no one has to suffer. While I definitely do not agree with his ideals, he is not evil by any stretch, he is just a good man doing the wrong things. Plus, he give us snacc :P

Even though he's a very questionable counselor whenever he counsels Ren and the rest of his friends he almost sounds fatherly in a way. I guess that's why most people call him therapy dad. This is especially true when he's counseling Futaba
Ironically enough you can also think of this from a story line perspective. One of the reasons it couldn't have gotten in is because it already _is_ in. On the Hollow Day, in the middle of New Years and 1/1, Joker has a dream. Over the course of that dream, you hear voicelines of everybody else's dream, the very same lines they use in Dr. Maruki's counseling. While it's way more likely it was just rushing, it also works as a way of trying to make you think "Now where have I heard these words before?" during Joker's dream.
It's interesting, these highlight for me how much Maruki, attitude and charisma as disarming as they are, is imposing his will on these folks. His interest isn't in helping people confront their fears, problems, or issues. He has an ulterior motive. He wants everyone to believe a specific thing, to get everyone to see his perspective: that if he can remove anything negative from your life, wouldn't that just be better? And then takes even the slightest agreements as confirmation that he's right. The really big moment left in the game that cements it for me is when he tells Joker he wishes he could believe him about Sumire. Sumire told him once that she wanted to be Kasumi. But she changes her mind, she accepts her reality. He stopped wanting what was best for her, he didn't spend time with her like Joker did and learn that in the interim. He's already made up his mind to save her, and that HE knows what's best for her. That and these voiced exchanges lend character foundation to Maruki. Of course he thinks he's doing the right thing. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Why did they not add it to the final product? Just like 3rd awakenings. It feels so empty for no reason at all because as you see it is actually recorded.
I wish the sessions in the final cut were voiced, but I see why these were scrapped. Dr. Maruki being the antagonist of the 3rd semester was already somewhat predictable as I fail to see why they’d make a new villain to introduce them after Yaldabaoth (despite not being introduced early on, he was at least disguised as Igor the whole game), Jose didn’t seem like he’d have a role in the story either, and Kasumi was already advertised as the new party member. However, they kept his powers as an element of surprise. I feel like these sessions foreshadow his abilities a little too hard to the point where the whole plot of 3rd semester would’ve been predictable (minus the Kasumi twist). All of these emphasize on “make your desires into reality” in a game where the word “desire” is tied deeply to the game’s overall plot and lore.
Me after listening to futaba's conversation: wow, I didn't think I could like her more but somehow I do. And after I heard her talking about psychology terms and learning them because her mum's work influenced her, the more I feel comparing Futaba to Nanako is doing Futaba a big disservice.
Not the implication that Futaba is more complex than Nanako. She isn't. Nanako is just as complex despite being a child, exploring child neglect and childhood depression / suicidality.

You know what, if a "Persona 5 the Royal Animation" were to ever happen, they should use these unused lines for Maruki's voice in the English dub instead of recasting a new actor!
Personally I feel like the counseling sessions with Maruki should have been voiced. Considering his role in the game, it would have a much larger impact on the plot and more memorable. Such a shame they didn’t add it in 😔
Weren't these voiced in the japanese release? And I don't mean in the western release with the japanese dub, but the actual Japanese release last year.
Still confused. I thought a person needs to witness Morgana talking in the metaverse in order to hear him talk in the real world. It's the reason Sae can't hear Morgana talk despite having gone to the Metaverse. And Zenkichi can hear him because he witnessed him talk.
Why arent the used ones voiced, I thought atlus west just translates? Is this the original translated version and then they themselves changed it? I'm very confused
Spoilers This has nothing to do with the video, but I’m curious: do you know what happens if you lose the 1-on-1 fight with Sumire? Do you just Game Over or is there a scripted scene that happens when your HP is low?
These not being included in the game baffles me. If I remember correctly these sessions weren't voiced in the final cut, and were written pretty similarly. So at that point why not use the voiced versions? You already payed the voice actors for it, so why use a very similar non-voiced version? It just feels like a waste of money at that point

@@princecharming8125 just meant it is surprising I keep finding you in these comment sections by coincidence. I wouldn't even be against such a reality so🙌🏻
@@yeontanseyebrows5588 Maruki: Good. What exactly is your happiness?
@@princecharming8125 gosh that is a hard question. I'm not sure, I don't really feel like I ever get anything done since I always set such unrealistic goals for myself while already struggling with smaller ones. I have a hard time just doing daily things something so I guess I'm just happy when I manage to actually get something done, and when my friends are happy. They deserve it after everything they've gone through
Why did they not add it to the final product?
I have the feeling that in Maruki's reality everything is going to go to hell
Me after listening to futaba's conversation: wow, I didn't think I could like her more but somehow I do. And after I heard her talking about psychology terms and learning them because her mum's work influenced her, the more I feel comparing Futaba to Nanako is doing Futaba a big disservice.
Not the implication that Futaba is more complex than Nanako. She isn't. Nanako is just as complex despite being a child, exploring child neglect and childhood depression / suicidality.
I wonder if these voice lines will be used in the PS5 version since it’s been announced. Probably not… Though it would be nice!
You would have to change the dialogue to fit the voiced lines.
@@nikoladedic6623, does that take a bit more programming and tweaking to do that?
@@DecimaDragonoid It seems that these voice lines were part of the original script before re-edited into the current version. Which is why no Yusuke.
@@nikoladedic6623, I see. It’s still a shame I couldn’t hear these extra dialogues in my playthrough.
15:07 Oh no. Haru's voice is coming out of Maruki 😂

Maruki ❤️❤️
I would've loved these
Man
Maruki is just such a kind man
Everyday we stray further away from the true persona.
I was saying to myself while playing why aren’t these voiced I’m surprised it was actually considered. I feel like it would have been much better and impactful for the 3rd semester.
I swear to god I got the Ryuji and Makoto ones...
This man is no villain
I like the dialogue in the main game more though it more subtle.
His insanity is showing a little more like this
Honestly. I mean he still doesn't come off as evil or anything, but he's a lot more pushy in these. I think that dialogue wise I prefer the new ones
If I were in P5R: My power is a fairy godfather. I can't say fairy godmother because I'm a dude. " What do you wish to do as a career choice? Whatever it is I can grant you complete understanding plus all knowledge you will learn in that field, you will instantly know everything by hard starting now."
My favorite antagonist in video games So amazing 😉
You know what, if a "Persona 5 the Royal Animation" were to ever happen, they should use these unused lines for Maruki's voice in the English dub instead of recasting a new actor!
it's amazing how he can understand and sympathize with so many different personalities, he's quite the admirable councilor
No
Why in the world were these never used in the game? they partially use them in the game as-is!
im feeling robbed
This channel is just making me not like this game as much as I did lol
Is it me or some of these paragraphs should a lot different than the in game subs too?
Why did they remove this much content
Still confused. I thought a person needs to witness Morgana talking in the metaverse in order to hear him talk in the real world. It's the reason Sae can't hear Morgana talk despite having gone to the Metaverse. And Zenkichi can hear him because he witnessed him talk.
mmm maruki
There was no reason these shouldn’t have been used
Why arent the used ones voiced, I thought atlus west just translates? Is this the original translated version and then they themselves changed it? I'm very confused
How are you confused?
This isn’t about the language. The used ones are a bit different and NOT voiced

Spoilers
This has nothing to do with the video, but I’m curious: do you know what happens if you lose the 1-on-1 fight with Sumire? Do you just Game Over or is there a scripted scene that happens when your HP is low?
Game over. It's the same as dying to any other fight in Jan 2 or Jan 9. Harry type C has a video about it.
Wait, aren't these the same as the convos in the game but voiced? Why aren't the voices in the game?
There are lines and such that aren't in the game! It was to keep one's guard down. If it wasn't voiced then people tend to pay less attention.
I wonder why these weren’t used?
They literally last minute overhauled the text and didn't have enough time/cannot be bothered to reaudit.
I am sad this wasn't included
Why do I feel like some of these were actually in the game?
When you go into the new year and Ren has his "dream" in the school, you hear clips of these.
Are these voiced in original dub?
you mean vanilla p5? of course not
@@pilotsayshello1758 uh no, I mean japanese version of P5R. I was wondering of it's west-only thing
@@treyla140 oh then yes actually. there are japanese versions just not used
Is it not voiced in japanesse to?
These not being included in the game baffles me. If I remember correctly these sessions weren't voiced in the final cut, and were written pretty similarly. So at that point why not use the voiced versions? You already payed the voice actors for it, so why use a very similar non-voiced version? It just feels like a waste of money at that point
Is there a mod to include the voice lines?
I'm working on that
@@FazPersona Cool, thanks! I'd love to install a mod that includes unused voicework for all of the extra scenes in P5R.
thats the plan :)
