Just seen a Grizzly Beast bourbon and Rocket Top rye bottled in bond says spring 2017 batch 2 on both the cork labels higher abv 50+ going for about $90 apiece. I didn’t grab them but I stood there thinking about it for awhile lol
Great review thanks Jason. I’ll skip these and buy an older and more delicious JDBP, ECBP, OFBP etc. I’m not a fan of the regular Lost Monarch as it tasted young and spikey in flavor (sign of youth). If their regular expression doesn’t impress me their barrel strength certainly won’t either.
Was that a Boondocks reference in the intro 🤣 Did you blend the Pipe and Emerald to see if they were better than the Monarch? I'm picking up the Rocket Top and Grizzly Beast next week
I find it odd that the mash bills for the cask strength versions are slightly different than the regular versions. Neither of the originals has wheat in them. Not sure if the small percentage makes a huge difference, but I guess enough so they decided to add it. Wonder what the driver was behind that choice.
I wonder of it's a statement that they've added more of their own juice. The Emerald Giant says distilled in Indiana, Kentucky and California. My regular Lost Monarch does not declare sources of the whiskies.

Only have had the Pipe Dream $29.99 version. Probably a pipe dream to be able to find these Cask Strength versions.
So the bourbon is at the same proof point as Rare Breed - which would you prefer, especially considering the RB is $30 less?

The rye is fantastic. It has a nice mix of chocolate, pumpernickel and spice. A very rich balanced juice.

The current pipe dream has like 1% wheat or something from what i remember but i could be very wrong
I checked the Redwood Empire website just to make sure. The website says: Mash Bill: 75% Corn, 21% Raw Rye, 4% Malt Barley. There's no wheat there.

try adding some pipe dream to the lost monarch and see if you can find the sweet spot you are looking for
I've just picked up the only one of the three I've ever seen, the Pipe Dream, and I find it surprisingly mild, but I like the subtle piney note

How can you tell the differnce between the REDWOOD EMPIRE CASK STRENGTH EMERALD GIANT (2023 RELEASE) vs, 2022 release as they are both 58.2 % ABV ?
