The interesting thing that I found with Redwood Empire is that when I tried their standard offerings side-by-side, I preferred lost monarch. Then when I had a fight of the cask strength bottles, I preferred pipe dream. They do good stuff. Great Side by side, as usual, cheers 🍻 👏
@@a2e319 I enjoy the Rocket Top bottled in bond rye more than the Emerald Giant CS, BUT I enjoy the Pipe Dream CS more than the Grizzly Beast bottled in bond bourbon
I loved watching Justin Wilson. His stories and the wine he’d always sneak a sip of. I prefer Emerald Giant Cask Strength. Really good and it grew on me the longer I had it.
My wife (from New Orleans area) and I (from north LA) always quote Justin Wilson when we cook. Miss that dude's show! Great tasting review on these two also. Still havent talked myself into grabbing any Redwood Empire, but have come so close on many occasions. Need to just pull the trigger.
I grew up watching Justin (he said Zhoostan) Wilson too! This was fun because even thoughni have a small whiskey collection, i had both Lost Monarch and Emerald Giant so i could taste along with you guys.
For us, the CS Emerald Giant is a top 5 rye for us. We love the CS Pipe Dream. The CS Lost Monarch somehow feels like the bourbon and rye didn't blend well. The 90 proof version is one of my favorite sippers though
The bourbon is called Pipe Dream. Yes, those do have some sourced whiskey in them from MGP, but also younger juice that is 100% their own. The Rocket Top and Grizzly Beast are the 100% Redwood without anything sourced in it. Be careful that the original bottles and the Cask Strength are slightly different mashbills. The two you are drinking have a small touch of wheat in the component that is Redwood Empire's own distillate. (4 grain mashbill) The original non-cask strength use 3 grain mashbills without that wheat.
Going to repeat my request for a compilation short/vid of Erin's tasting notes. Add "kinda smells like someone walked into a room who maybe smells like an onion" to footie pajamas, toe jam and Whole Foods, etc. I LOVE her tasting notes - they crack me up! IMO, that vid would be among your most popular. 😆
Big fan of the pipe dream and emerald giant lost monarch not so much. It’s not terrible but I’d rather blend my own burrye. Got a bottle of the cast strength rye but saving it for a bottle share. Enjoy!!
It depends. Something we’re very familiar with in the 90-100ish proof range. Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniel’s 94 proof Single Barrel Select, Wild Turkey 101, Early Times BiB, etc. The vital part is that it’s somewhere we’re hyper familiar with so that we can know if it tastes “off” or not, in which case we wouldn’t record as we’d know our palates weren’t right.
I'm liking Redwood Empires offerings and they're local to me here in NorCal; I just wish they'd open a tasting room. I've heard they're moving to a bigger location and upping their output, so hopefully a tasting room is on the way. Also try their single malt Foggy Burl and wheated Screaming Titan.
That CS Emerald Rye is a standout for me. Even though I am just getting into Rye’s I think I am going to be following on Erin’s footsteps at some point and just stick to Rye’s. Which means: what in the world am I gonna do with all that Bourbon in my house?!? 😂😂😂
Feels like not the first pours of the night, squad. I really liked the original Lost Monarch, but the word on these was…sadly, not as good, so I never visited.
Hey is there a way to join the patreon and pay one yearly amount? Possibly at a lil discount for paying a year ahead? Im a cash purchase guy for 90% of things. That way my wife doesnt get stressed trying to juggle as many swipes throughout the week and month.
Good question. It's an option within Patreon, but we've not looked into it just yet. Will put that on the to-do list to discuss and see what options are available.
The Cajun chef is Justin Wilson

I hardly ever enjoy lower proof more, however the lost monarch is absolutely perfect at 90 proof and loses cohesiveness at cask strength.

I love Pipe Dream and I’ve heard that their single malt is awesome, but haven’t tried it.
My family used to watch the Cajun Chef (Justin Wilson) all the time on PBS back in the day.
Love the regular 90 proofers of both. Haven’t tried the cask versions. Agree that lost monarch 90 is fantastic
Love the Emerald Giant CS! Glad these popped up and I see these all the time now.

Great stuff and fun format, keep it up!
Justin Wilson ("how y'all are?") was awesome!

Combing the back catalog would be a fair bit of work, but it would definitely be worth it. When we get the time, we'll try to get it done.
I need to try those! Thx. I’ve had both of the regular bottles and don’t get any funk

I love your channel & approach to bourbons. May I ask what each of you drink prior to "warm your palates"??

I agree they are a little different. Both are pretty decent but not a rebuy. I prefer the standard lost monarch over all. Cheers
Erin it was Justin Wilson
I guar-own-tee your right😂
Erin has such great hair. Damn.
Southern Star wheated bottled in bond for sure. Try it
If only you guys would review the RWE Pipedream cask strength vs Grizzly Beast 🤞
I Need to try these
All of Redwoods stuff I like, but the standard offerings are kind of watery. I like all of these cask strength ones though.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
3 day old body odor starts to get that onion smell!
🧅🧅
Hmmm...I don't think I smell like onions. 😂
😂 😂

Funnily enough, this was the first recording of the day. We definitely had some fun with this one!
How does a gnat not end up in your whiskey?
It's tricky to avoid. They're tenacious.

Pipe Dream cask strength is better than both
