At Leesville High School, it's quite the opposite. We love our instermens and treat them with care. We also never leave anything on the timpani. That's what almost everyone else in our band likes to do for some reason, though. We don't really do anything stupid. We also don't really sit much ether. I mess with timpani pedals rarely only because its fun to mess with the sound I do make sure to put them back to original tuning that it was alread on. We only sit when we've been standing for a long time. I don't sit at all.
We never had an issue with percussionists using the timpani as tables when I was in band, but the band director usually turned the other way when we used xylophone mallets in the hands of the brass section that did.
For my youth orchestra i was in i was told playing mp when it’s written for mf on bass drum was too much, so for the concert i played ppppp and said to my school orchestra teacher who was watching that i thought i was too loud on bass drum, he got a laugh out of it It was also a march btw
As a percussionist i am deeply offended by those trumpets who put cases on the timpani, the director made a sign now so it doesn’t happen because it messes up the tuning
Sitting and wrong mallets are the only acceptable ones Also i just generally like a higher snare height because i like it slightly above the waist however i think the true crime IS THAT TIMPANI PLAYING ZONE
Yeah my band director doesn't care if we sit when we're not playing but for wrong mallets: that's a big no no he used to yell at us so much for using the hard mallets on the wood keyboards (not xylo ofc)
@ well there are plastic xylo mallets, but for marimba you can only use soft rubber or soft yarn But on like glock and xylo it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re playing piano and fooling around I’ve seen a piece that called for chopsticks on marimba
One time one of my classmates was sleeping during band class (don’t ask me how idek) and my band teacher took the cymbals and slammed them right next to his ear. Everyone cracked up about it for the rest of class we got like no work done it was great
Picking up the drum by the snare physically and mentally hurt me.
Drummer-Percussionist here. I can confirm that if any kid were to do that in class, I'd send them to mars.
I would too! @@Courageous1st
@ I’m a percussionist too, I’ve seen it happen ONCE. And I felt my braincells physically recoil.
No one does that
The slapstick humor one is a certified Papyrus moment
As a percussionist I can relate to this video mainly slapstick, tambourine, and slay bells
@@StephenBradley90 Some kid in my class somehow can't roll on the tambourine. Idk man idk.
Am I the only one who read papyrus and thought undertale 😂
The sitting whenever we can and cymbal shenanigans is definitely me and my section 😂😂
Snare wire pickup hurts me
Every band practice my Band director says, "The Timpany is not a table!"
That’s what I say as a timpani player 😢😂
At my school we put tape on the covers that said "This is not a table" 😂
Bro was playing the cymbals like finger cymbals.
Now THAT'S something I can respect.
Putting things on the timpani hurt me to my percussionist core.
Now what really hurt me was the picking up the drum by the snares.
Most of those hurt my soul, unfortunately most of those are also true

the pain this caused me...
this video caused physical pain (except for the sitting part, that’s real)
I am not a percussionist, but this hurt me in a terrible way.
Using the wrong mallets would make my percussion captain make me switch to woodwinds 😂
We never had an issue with percussionists using the timpani as tables when I was in band, but the band director usually turned the other way when we used xylophone mallets in the hands of the brass section that did.
I cannot describe the pain I felt when he threw that stuff on top of the timpani 😫
Percussionists: *plays something*
Conductor: “hey you’re playing it wrong, try again”
Percussionists: *play the exact same thing*
Holding the snare by the wires made me cringe so hard I almost went into a coma.
As a mallet percussionist, your mallets on the bells hurt me
As a clarinetist this hurt
help the mallets actually hurt 😭
As a percussionist everything is 100% true except for picking up the snare by its snares that unbelievably hurt me.
as a percussionist, i’ve only seen the “sitting any chance they get”
The junk on the timpani is so real
Claves on the xylophone is probably one of the worst offenses personally
Speaking as a percussionist, WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THOSE THINGS!?
For my youth orchestra i was in i was told playing mp when it’s written for mf on bass drum was too much, so for the concert i played ppppp and said to my school orchestra teacher who was watching that i thought i was too loud on bass drum, he got a laugh out of it
It was also a march btw
My percussionists friend would be so disappointed and upset if he saw this 😭😭😭😭
Percussionist here. I am SUPER disappointed that kids in my class do these some times. It sets me off I swear
Are we not gonna talk about how he uses claves as mallets?
i have witnessed 90% of these
I took psychic damage from this and I'm not even a percussionist. I'm a guitarist
As a percussionist i am deeply offended by those trumpets who put cases on the timpani, the director made a sign now so it doesn’t happen because it messes up the tuning
A SIGN?!?!?! DANG! Mine just say not to do so.
@ we didn’t actually have one he just said it every day for a month, if this happened last year(it was 2 years ago) he would’ve prob made a sign
Trombone gang 😎
The timpani ones are the realest
Half of these are yes
Other half is pain
This video flabbergasted me
the snare actually hurt me
That just hurts me and I'm a percussionist
The worst of them all... leaving junk on the timpani. Definitely miss those days but once a band kid, always a band kid even though I'm all grown up.
This video makes me want to cry.
Same bro, same.
Sitting and wrong mallets are the only acceptable ones
Also i just generally like a higher snare height because i like it slightly above the waist however i think the true crime
IS THAT TIMPANI PLAYING ZONE
Yeah my band director doesn't care if we sit when we're not playing but for wrong mallets: that's a big no no he used to yell at us so much for using the hard mallets on the wood keyboards (not xylo ofc)
I mean it's pretty understandable since you can scratch and mess up the keys though
@ well there are plastic xylo mallets, but for marimba you can only use soft rubber or soft yarn
But on like glock and xylo it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re playing piano and fooling around
I’ve seen a piece that called for chopsticks on marimba
i never did this my band teacher prohibited us from doing these things and whenever someone does this it infuriates me
"ONLY PERCUSSIONISTS CAN TOUCH THE TIMPANI" "TROMBONES! STOP TOUCHING THE TIMPANI!" - The Assistant Band Director in my band
Lol all the percutionist do this at my school!
I’m a trombone player and this caused me physical pain
Welcome to the club bro
One time one of my classmates was sleeping during band class (don’t ask me how idek) and my band teacher took the cymbals and slammed them right next to his ear. Everyone cracked up about it for the rest of class we got like no work done it was great
That's awful but I love your Band Director for doing that lol
Not the claves on the bells
I wanted to cry when you picked up the snare. who hurt you?
What is mallet percussion sticks on snare 💀
We have an 8 foot slap stick and for sleigh ride we had a 1 foot 3 foot an then he would go get the big one and just wait there it was so funny
Day 50 of asking Scott and jimmy oboe
What’s a timpani that’s a desk (percussionist here)
It can't be both for SURE.
Don’t have your percussionist sit have them stand. It’s much better.
Not timpani with sticks
this pains me
Me
No real percussionists would ever do that
Lol all the percutionist do this at my school!
