Good job. I am a Mechanical Designer so take this for what is worth. I don't care for steel targets that hang straight up and down. I like them angled at the ground some, myself. If you were to weld the nut to the back of the plate instead, it would angle the plate down. The closer you move the nut to the center of mass if the target the greater the hanging angle will be.
I've been making targets for a couple years now, and I weld loops onto the backs of the plate for exactly that reason. I don't know about "3/16 welding stock" tho
only problem with flat targets like that is they don't ring loud enough. i made some 10 in square flat 1/2 in steel targets and then welded a 5in x 10in pice to each side on the back to make it look like this " I____I " then hang it on a steel hook. and it made all the deference. these targets are very loud. they almost ring like a church bell when you shoot them. very loud reverberation !
So thankful for these ideas I have so much scrape and hardware at my work I can basically do it all for free which in todays bullshit is so much better then buying steel and hardware
I like it.. my question is will you make one to sale it to me has to be something strong enough for shotgun slugs .40 Cal 223 ,7.62, 308 . Let me know if you can I don't wanna buy that shootsteel crap
Good idea..I will order from one guy (metalk worker) for me & my company , but with chain for hanging .?? .Great video Thx and keep going ! Best regards from Canada .👌🌿🍁🤠🍷💕👍
Good job, I have made a few of these. Grind the plate absolutely smooth, no edges from the weld. Then take a rosebud and make the center cherry red and work outward. pour water on it. This process will harden the steel and make it safer. Great video..
Ooooo, I like!!! I'll get to making about ten of these!!! That 'ol Mason guy sounds like a fuddy duddy. He probably wouldn't even ride in the back of a pick up truck!😂
Take the time to read what I've typed, it just might save your life, or your kids, or any loved one's. The link at the end will show what a bullet is supposed to do when it hits the correctly rated steel for what you're shooting at it......in the next post, below.
Coming from someone who makes and sells steel targets, this is NOT a safe setup. Specifically commenting on the target you shot with 9mm, you could seriously injure yourself. I urge anyone who sees this video to look at some safer alternatives. There are decently priced targets online, and it's not difficult to research how to properly set up a safe range. I would be more than happy to help anyone who has questions. We don't need more people getting injured (or worse) by misuse of firearms.
Tim Vandenbrink I agree these companies pretend that AR500 is majestically made from pandora when in reality it’s just abrasion resistant steel that you can find from your grandfathers combine. Don’t get me wrong I use that and much prefer it over any other steel but as long you keep proper distances depending on what you are shooting go out there and save money making your own stands and rigs.
One thing that makes it dangerous is those that weld in the middle.. if a bullet where to hit that weld it could bounce back, and you should always have your steel slightly leaning fowawrd. I would have at least welded both sides and grind the weld flush on the front side
I left a video link up there to educate the guy. Anyway, who sells the correct steel for the cheapest prices since it sounds like you're more in-the-know about it than I am. Im looking for shooting steel and don't have a big budget, but still want the right stuff. I'll be shooting mostly up to .45, but have a neighbor that will probably want to shoot his 30-06 at it too. So, ill get a couple magnum steel and rifle steel targets as well, or get it all rated for magnum and rifle. Theres just so many people selling it now, I don't know who's steel works like it says and has a good price. I saw a video where a guy says don't buy cheap ar500 steel bc he punched a hole within 20 shots, with a .223. IDK exactly how he had it set up, he just says he had it 20 yards past the required 100yrds. He could've had it set back to a solid back stop, idk. Anyway, would appreciate the info very much, thanks.

Thats actually a really good idea lol

Will do that, thanks for the idea!

Nice job, but I would tilt the top forward also. Keep up the good work!
You make them for sale?

Agree with Alan Huss said on the angle, also I'd paint the target white, or fluorescent. Good job though.

Congrat! Well made..simple...i wish i have a place to do welding, bending, paintinh etc...dawm condos!
Looks good. Ineed to build me one👍
Large shepherds hook does the trick too for the less handy :)
Relly? How many people own a welder?
Everybody that’s as in to DIY as I am.
Thank you

Plzz what is your gun Name & what is gun prize
I have large steel nuts too
Thanks for sharing
Nicely done. 👍

Mason Reagan I can make my own targets for a fraction of what you probably sell yours for and they will work just fine.

You say it's dangerous, but don't say why. If you're gonna warn people of dangers explain them. Cuz I don't see what's so dangerous about.

You’re very creative using a table saw as a welding table.
You realize the rebar were property pins right?
+0475Mike I think it would be odd for property pins to be laying in a pile under a bush by my back deck nowhere near the property line. ;)
LOL!
Warrior526, I guess David did not appreciate my humor. Oh well.
thanks for sharing!
Well done I like that
Thanks!
Its ok
Plzz send me your gun pechers
You can't have weld beads on your target. You also need to be using the correct steel. This is just unsafe.
use half inch or thinker plate nice job tho ...
This is not a safe setup. Angle it towards the ground!
Uhh, NO! lol
Who uses inches anymore
America does!!!!
