God Bless You Robert Hunter. Had the Honor of seeing You in Boston a few years back with a few friends of mine. Out there by yourself. One acoustic guitar and a head microphone. I will never forget You. Thank You.
We were there at Darien that day. This was just one heck of a show, from start to finish. Hunter came out first and opened things up in the afternoon, when he first came out there wasn't too many people in the shed yet, it filled up pretty good for him by the end. When he sang this song, he had the whole place right there in the palm of his hand. When he got to the "Jack a Roses" part, he had people completely captivated. He got everyone's attention with "Lady / Terrapin" and then when he started singing about Ivory Wheels on a Rosewood track, that's when it started to get really special. I remember he brought tears when he sang Sarafina Magdalena. I would LOVE to get an audio recording of his whole set from that night. Been looking forever, and I think I found it once but lost track of it. So I know it's out there. If anyone can help with that, I would repay you with whatever you want. Got a ton of Dylan shows, Ratdog, P&F (from the "Q" days). Thank you, Mr Hunter.
I love the story of him playing this on the balcony of his NYC apartment as 9/11 was happening. He said as he watched the smoke he couldn't help himself and played Terrapin.
Saw Hunter with Roadhog, just after the Dead/Who concerts in Oakland. A small basement club called the Pipe Room at Santa Clara U. I remember Hunter doing guitar windmills (P. Townsend's signiture move) to the amusement of all of us.
Fare thee well, Hunter! For me along with W. B. Yeats, Guillaume Apollinaire, Paul Eluard, Dylan Thomas, Gary Snyder, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan and Jiim Morrison THE Poet of the 20.th century! Thanks Hunter!!!

+Jam Catcher You'd need a whole book to get that across. But it's Hunter using classic American folk archetypes - you could spend hours pulling all the references the song has - to create a new one. He lays out out pretty plainly in the lyric, and as for why a Terrapin, well, let the arguments begin. ..

I stood on the lawn, in amazement, as this unfolded before me. I'll never forget it. RIP Hunter; thank you.
Rest in Peace. Hopefully, somewhere you and Jerry are reunited.

Yes indeed. WWJD? What would Jerry do?

The compass always points to Terrapin.
His voice as at a higher pitch than on his studio version -- he sounds kind of like Jerry!
Pretty SUITE! 🌹💀☝️👣⚡🐢🙏💜
