That droning string sound is purely acoustic and comes from the Indian classic instrument tanpura. And yeah, it's really cool!

This is the only album I can throw on that calms down my anxious ten-year-old cat, he absolutely loves it.

What a legend. He knows what’s up.

God I love this band. Their drummer is so tight, and yet simultaneously so flowing

Man, I just love the album this song comes from. It is so deeply meditative, and it always does a great job of calming me down. Al Cisneros with his signature Rickenbacker bass is a total legend, and Emil Amos is a master of the drums. Great reaction, Bryan!

What a gorgeous track! Even if you didn't get to say that much you still got a lot to say, and I'm glad it was a bit more enjoyable than other droney or slow burn tracks have been. I think that doubling down on the meditation concept works really well here. Completely an experience, and the kind of song to simply let wash over you, much like yesterday's track, but even sparser. Great insight as always, Bryan!

Exactly. There's something here that clicks for me more than usual and I'm looking forward to checking this one out casually.

Love seeing the Om react. Just a bit of background for the band; the group originally formed as a duo consisting of Sleep rhythm section Al Cisneros (bass, vocals) and Chris Hakius (drums). The early stuff still sits in a very similar vein to this, but is much more stripped down. Eventually, Chris retired and was replaced by Emil Amos (of Grails and others), who is playing drums on this track. Around that time (I believe) is when they started adding other instruments and textures to the music, which is probably Emil's influence from his other groups.

YES! One of my all time favourite albums. Had some special adult mushrooms once and listened to every single Om album in a row. Good times were experienced.

This is from one of those very rare albums that for me is perfect. I can listen to it any time and countless times and I never get tired of it.

Love me some Drone and specially OM, their last 2 albums were fantastic. Next time we go through the 44 minute track on the new Swans album 😉

Several of the shots were from Baraka, which also had some appearances from Dead Can Dance.

Yesterday when watched your Dead Can Dance reaction, I did think to myself that Om are basically a mix of Dead Can Dance and Doom Metal.

I dig me some Om but you actually might enjoy Grails more (a band featuring this same drummer, also on drums and other instruments). They get lumped into post-rock but play around a lot with interesting instrumentation and fascinating rhythmic ideas, and lean hard into this sort of trippy psychedelic Eastern-tinged vibe.

This is my favorite OM song

You said you had enough by mid song but your body said otherwise, with time you can grow an addiction to Om. And there's nothing digital in the recording.

Like you I eventually just checked out of this because it was the same idea over and over. I dug the ending when they started introducing some interesting rhythmic variations, but it took way too long to get there. Beyond the drone instrument I also don't hear anything world-ish about this either.

Veers a bit too much towards hippy shit and prog for my tastes... but not bad.

Describing it as "hippy shit" is dishonest and ignorant.

I hate when people act like anything spiritual is hippy shit. Also, HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS EVEN CLOSE TO PROG?!?!?!
