There's no denying Daryl Hall is an amazing singer, so it's not hard to understand why he was out front. But I love not only getting to hear John Oates sing (he has a great voice!), but also to hear him share his role in creating such great songs. His contributions to their music tend to get overlooked, so go John Oates!
Agreed Darryl is an excellent singer, but as all can see here, John is equally talented. IMO Darryl fronting the band was that his image was more in line with what was popular at the time. Especially if you look at 80's fashion style. Nice to see John here!
@@CJ-zp7qjHall lead the vocals for a reason. He gave Oates a compliment on this comment. They may be on the same level as an artist but Daryl had the better vocals. Those same jams aren't going to number 1 on the charts if John was lead vocals.
Many people don't realize how big of a quiet genius John Oates was and still is. The synergy that was created between he and Daryl Hall was what drew me to them 50 years ago.
I saw Hall & Oates in college late '70s. Great great concert GE Smith was on lead guitar but what I was impressed by was John Oates rhythm guitar work. After all these years that concert still stands out as one of the best I went to
I had a huge crush on John Oates back in the 80's and still do. God what a performer. The best voice with so much soul and feeling. Yup the crush is still there. 💗💗💞💞
John Oats is a very talented guy, and I'm honored to have heard him and Daryl, in conert, several years ago, as I was given a back-stage pass, by him (or his mother-in-law)? I keep his autograph, in the top drawer of my desk! The concert was held at the Star Plaza Theatre, in Indiana. I forget the year? Thanks for sharing this amazing video. Peace, Brother Charles Pratt ...oh, JOhn's mother-in-law (Sharon Pommier) was a former nurse of ours, here, at Good Shepherd Mannor, in Momence, Illinois!
What makes you think that? I am only asking because from what I have found is that they share the majority of song writing credits. Some are listed as John being the primary, while others list Daryl as the primary. Both of them are awesome musicians and writers.
@K.F.C KERNEL it’s repeated on his other videos, so it’s probably fake. I saw a comment with 2 replies, both being John Oates, yet they were different accounts. Seems kinda shady...
Out of touch is one of my all time favorites from Hall and Oates. Thank you, John for all the good music you have given us. I still own several of your records as a band. 80s kid here!!!
Bravo Maestro Thats how you created this song Amazing John now i can tell you love the original The one at the studio after Trillions of aragments it gave you guys platinum hits...Thank you John please keep doing it there is not much time in our lives that share our best moments Thanks Man
John wrote, or co-wrote, their biggest hits. The two biggest, Maneater and Out of Touch, were John's compositions. Certainly, Daryl, Sara, Janna, and other collaborated, but those songs began with John's ideas.
@imagydmusic1129 Sara Smile was their first big hit. She's Gone was covered by Tavares and hit #1 for them. She's Gone was re-released by Atlantic after Sara Smile hit the top 10. John also wrote Do It For Love, the last #1 (AC chart) written by either singer. The point is, for Daryl to claim that he did most of the work after 1975 is preposterous.. if it weren't for Johm's writing talent, where would he be?
little did he know that that song would travel from new york small apartment to my school gymnasium way out west lunchtime dance and be the biggest song of the time,,,80s forever,,,
Really enjoy John's take on the songs in this broadcast, very very soulful and a perfect alternated interpretation of the original songs. Great band too.
John Oates is definitely a phenomenal talent, I believe he should have been out front more! John you go do yo thing and sing more!! can't wait to see more new song from this Singer Musician and Artist!
I’ve come to believe that they really were the John and Paul of the 80s. Or maybe Paul and Art, not quite sure. But they were really up there, Damnit! Philly soul!
This sounds amazing. He's got such a unique style which just gets lost with Hall and Oates (not surprising as Daryl is such a great singer) but I have to say, I love this.
Please do an acoustic version of all of your songs...this is toooooo gooooood. A Big Bam Boom fan...saw the concert twice. Hid backstage and had the best time.

@WorldRenownedCFE they are still together
So true...John`s voice IMO is every bit as Soulful as Daryl`s...Just A little different...But Dam good...!
are you Swiss

Nice to see John here!
Oates is a fine singer, songwriter, and guitarist in his own right. Great to see him performing!
What you mean in his own right. That always makes it sound to me that you don't really think he's a good artist he just as good as Daryl
He’s great❤
@@CJ-zp7qjHall lead the vocals for a reason. He gave Oates a compliment on this comment. They may be on the same level as an artist but Daryl had the better vocals. Those same jams aren't going to number 1 on the charts if John was lead vocals.
@@terrillt426 man you crazy as fuck
I never seen a guy ride someone's coat tails more than this guy. You can't compare the two.
John was 70 years old in this clip. Hope I look this good at that age. Great performance!
Right?
WOW! John is EXTREMELY underrated as a soloist AND can sing!
Of course he can sing!! He and Daryl both are phenomenally talented
his voice is really great here and his playing is passionate and strong.. yet I really hate this version of the song..:)..
The back story of these TIMELESS songs are what I love the most
What's it about?
Many people don't realize how big of a quiet genius John Oates was and still is. The synergy that was created between he and Daryl Hall was what drew me to them 50 years ago.
Interesting to see this song re-imagined as a kind of acoustic country song.
guts
I've never thought of this before, but John reminds me of Prince! Both the looks, the voice and the arrangement here.
😂
Makes sense....since they always considered their duo to be a soul duo.
I was thinking the same. Lol
Definitely Prince vibe .
Damn! John Oates! I love your version so much!
I love this version. John your voice is amazing. Pure Fire. ❤️
This was really good wasn’t it? I love John’s voice but his inflection makes this version really great.
This verision alone should be a radio hit! I love Daryl, i love the original, but this is Amazing!
Beautiful, love hearing more from John - so talented and soulful.
I appreciate your kind words and compliments, I would love to have a conversation with you, do you have a mobile number i can text you on?

His best work is on guitar but not a notable singer. I don't understand the hype of John Oats as a great singer, to each his own I guess
Yeah, a S O L I D guitarist.
I saw hall& Oates when they came to Dublin. Fantastic concert !!
I had a huge crush on John Oates back in the 80's and still do. God what a performer. The best voice with so much soul and feeling. Yup the crush is still there. 💗💗💞💞
Good for you😊
This acoustic version makes a familiar song something so new and beautiful. It is distilled down to basic essence. Fabulous.

The brains behind Hall and Oates. Severely underrated as a musical genius.

@@pskattum It's been a running gag since like the 80s that Oates just rode Halls tail. Which is of course not true
Gotta love fans. Of course, he's not the brains behind Daryl Hall & John Oates. They were BOTH the brains behind the operation.
Hardly the brains daryll wrote most of the hits and had the voice
This acoustic version of this great song is fantastic! ❤
There's so much personality in John's voice.
I love John's style. Great job.

Damn this version was legit fire!!!
I did the monitors at The Roxy theater in LA from 2001/2003 and I did John Oates monitors for his solo show. One of the nicest guys ever!!
1:55 - This is such a groovy version. Love it.
Yes 🥰
Oates is getting more refined over time, still so impressive~
I wish I could like this video one billion times.
🤣
やっぱり上手いなぁ〜〜John
また日本に来てください!
絶対に観に行きます!!!!!!!!
Hearing this, Hall and Oates missed out on the whole Unplugged fad in the 90s. This song is damn fine unplugged!
They were big on that.. change of season was all implied.. they were on mtv unplugged.. search for it
Check out the Acoustic Power World Tour ,
Absolutely fantastic shows .
Out of touch is one of my all time favorites from Hall and Oates. Thank you, John for all the good music you have given us. I still own several of your records as a band. 80s kid here!!!
Anyone who says he doesn't have range doesn't know music. .. beautiful version, thanks
I love the slight melody change in the verses. 😁😁😁
Great version!

Daryll would be nothing without John! or maybe no lol
you forgot the biggest song that launched their careers... shes gone! fully a john concept from his life experience

@@LEWFROST2 But Daryll seems to have done better after H&O than John has.
John seems like just a chill dude and such an underrated vocalist, love that he gets high too lol. Really like this slower soulful take on the song
Hearing this a lot back in HS in Phils. Hitting the chart Top 40 . Love this version.
Holy shit, that voice!
This is my favorite version of this song, John's voice is so soulful I cannot get enough!
Love John's voice wow😍💕

I love the stories behind songs. Thanks John. 🙂
Great arraignment of this classic!
That voice is amazing. John Oates legend among legends
Good performance John!! The song great!! And Daryl great (duet whith John)
Great voice!! Love this version!! Maybe he should have sung more lead during H&O heyday.
So much effort, so much soul... Loved it!
