    There's no denying Daryl Hall is an amazing singer, so it's not hard to understand why he was out front. But I love not only getting to hear John Oates sing (he has a great voice!), but also to hear him share his role in creating such great songs. His contributions to their music tend to get overlooked, so go John Oates!

      @imagydmusic1129 Sara Smile was their first big hit. She's Gone was covered by Tavares and hit #1 for them. She's Gone was re-released by Atlantic after Sara Smile hit the top 10.
      John also wrote Do It For Love, the last #1 (AC chart) written by either singer.

    I saw Hall and Oates in concert twice. They sounded fantastic both times but there was a striking difference in the two shows. In the first show Darryl Hall was the one in front interacting with the crowd. The second show Darryl seemed to be in a foul mood and had no interaction with the crowd other than to perform. John stepped up and took over as more of the front man (although Darryl was still lead vocal on most of the songs). It made me wonder if that dynamic, and John's ability to step in and keep the show on track, was part of the reason the partnership lasted as long as it did.

    An amazing songwriter and artist.
    It’s too bad that you two are falling apart.
    I’m hoping that you can sever your business without Severing your legacies

    I’m getting a very Steely Dan vibe from his voice. I can very much get behind that.

    Ah, yes, the Teac Portastudio - a 4 track cassette recorder... I remember it well and used it, too. It was really handy for getting ideas down on tape.

    To hear Daryl Hall these days, he pretty much says John Oates had nothing to do with anything from the H&O catalog. I find that hard to believe.

    John Oates, Art Garfunkel and Jim Messina. Three guys in popular duos that no one cares about.😂

    He should have front at least 30% of their songs. First time I heard his voice and almost same caliber as Darryl I should say.

    Not to sound dumb, but did John say that it was him who had originally wrote this song, while Daryl mainly sang it?

    So cool, I always wondered if John Oates was like that guy who was on stage with George Michael during the Wham days.

    • @reg12269
      @reg12269 ปีที่แล้ว

      That guy was very talented too.. Andrew wrote a lot of there early stuff but George far surpassed him at their peak.. john always held his own.. Daryl was 2/3.. john was 1/3 on their records esp prior to h20.. john frequently sang lead and even first singles off records.. incl voices.. how does it feel to b back.. but yes, at their 80s peak, it was mostly Daryl as front man but john held his own in creating the music or lyrics for a lot of those songs…
