I’m surprised she was that polite and calm.
Not really. The long uncomfortable staring, the superficial smile, the flat affect, all of it is pretty typical. Some psychopaths are also very still, as they don’t know how to react with emotions they don’t have, so they simply sit still and watch. She was trying to figure out if the interviewer believed her or not, which was why she was staring. Since he was likely unreadable, she just didn’t move, unsure of how to react. That would be my guess.

She had a head injury when she was 7 and it caused damage to the frontal lobe which is directly responsible for empathy. With no empathy for other people it became easy for her to start poisoning them. And because she’d gotten away with it for as long as she did she started to get careless which is what lead to her being caught.
Partly the horrific abuse she experienced growing, partly a head injury from childhood that caused her mental and emotional issues for the rest of her life. As for motive, her later killing did have a heavy financial aspect, with her getting multiple insurance payouts, but it seems that several of them, especially her mother, her children/grandchild, and one of her more abusive husbands had a more vengeful factor to it. Its like if someone crossed her or let her down some way, even slightly (like her mother standing aside during her childhood abuse, her older daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock with the baby, or that one husband who simply "wouldn't let her read her romance novels") she would get even with them while pocketing a nice check. A hateful, greedy woman, hiding it behind a smile.

I wonder if she had DID--Dissociative Identity Disorder. Sometimes people who have very severely abused develop it as a coping mechanism. I was stationed in fort McClellan Anniston Alabama in the US Army. Lots of memories from there.

Partly the horrific abuse she experienced growing, partly a head injury from childhood that caused her mental and emotional issues for the rest of her life. As for motive, her later killing did have a heavy financial aspect, with her getting multiple insurance payouts, but it seems that several of them, especially her mother, her children/grandchild, and one of her more abusive husbands had a more vengeful factor to it. Its like if someone crossed her or let her down some way, even slightly (like her mother standing aside during her childhood abuse, her older daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock with the baby, or that one husband who simply "wouldn't let her read her romance novels") she would get even with them while pocketing a nice check.
A hateful, greedy woman, hiding it behind a smile.

@@nrlsan36_34her mother letting her being abused was a huge huge let down nothing slight about it. That said she should have been executed lord knows plenty of men especially people of color would have been executed for less no matter their childhood or abuse.

I wonder if she had DID--Dissociative Identity Disorder. Sometimes people who have very severely abused develop it as a coping mechanism. Her weird behavior almost seems like a persona or character, the character of an evil demon murderer. It feels like there isn't a real person there. Not that it makes becoming a serial killer OK.

I have only seen two people in my life with that side eye. A cousin of mine and my father. He would look at me that was when I was in trouble. He never directly looked at me. I think its mental illness.
