How The Largest Surviving WW2 Military Base Was Shut Down | Camp Bastion | Spark

- Camp Bastion, a fortress, built to fight the Taliban. For eight years the powerhouse for UK and US military operations in Afghanistan. Now, Britain’s biggest military base since WWII is closing. A town the size of Reading with a massive infrastructure - airport, hospital, fast food restaurants - is dismantled bolt by bolt and sent back to the UK. What is left is handed over to the Afghans. But with defences and manpower depleting daily, in the face of a constant threat from the Taliban, it is a dangerous race against time to close this city in the sand.

The reason why the Afghan commander looked disappointed when he said there were no integrated CCTV systems on the perimeter lookout towers, was because he can't even guarantee the loyalty of his own soldiers. If somebody were to let the Taliban through, they would have no early warning system.
In essence, the watchtower perimeter provided him no security.
Thought exactly the same thing
So the UK army left loyal Afghani troops undefended. After 13 years of merely stirring up the hornet's nest.

It was a hard choice. Their presence wasn't accomplishing anything but to accrue criticism home side. Every dollar and life spent in Afghanistan did not translate to a more secure geopolitical environment.
I think if politics wasn't a factor, we'd still be there. But if politics wasn't a factor, would we be there in the first place? Fighting an entrenched, indigenous, fanatic, and organized guerilla opposition, in rough terrain, with thousand mile long supply lines... It wasn't a tenable presence, similar paradigm to the Vietnam war.

It's not entirely wrong . The Military generally fires off or disposes of small arms ammo around 7 year intervals .
Ammo deteriorates in a few ways one of which is called stress corrosion of the brass . In a large batch it's impossible to tell which cases have suffered and become weaker and prone to the case cracking upon firing .
So they put a time limit on it and dispose after that time . That is not to say that a lot of the ammo is still fine and safe to use for a lot longer . In a full on war like WW2 they use the ammo as quick as they can make it .

One of my favorite memories of this place ,is we had a understanding with the Airforce PJs,when we'd fly in there and drop off patients, they'd have a ton of pizzas ready for us to take back.huge moral booster,we had 2 army DUSTOFF crews, about 50 marines and a couple navy medics at a small hospital.all the food we had was MREs during the day and the marines would cook us canned or bagged food for dinner.
"Alright, whose turn is it to get shot?"
Can you expect a victory like a soldier who's moral raised just wit PIZZA... extremely funny military... got slapped by TALIBAN 🤣
@@iyigujjar5316 Is that why the Taliban were of the defensives for the past 20 years? We kept pounding and killing them. Most of the Taliban aren't even Afghani anymore! They are made up of foreign fighters who just want to murder innocent people for the sole purpose of spreading a perverted islamic ideology. The only reason why NATO left is due to the cowardly politicians who have no idea on how to fight a war. If we were allowed to be soldiers instead of babysitters the Taliban would have been eradicated and a distant memory.

These globalists can't do shit, my advice to anyone these days would be,
1.) Move to Florida or Texas where they still remember what basic human rights are.
2.) Make informed voting decisions
Remember that we can't control other people's actions, or fix events that happened in the past, but we can always work on our future.

If USA OR ENGLAND cared they would be shooting a massive bomb just to fully end the talibans and mulitple millions if not millions then thousands of lives. Yet how smart do you think Killing millions/thousands of lives is when you could just take out the talibans. and The money IS NOTHING compared to what usa makes or anything like if amazon creator wanted to he could build 4 of these bases. yet there alot of people like bill gates as microsoft owner that has given more money away then any other foundation that i know of as a single person which goes above 60 BILLION. so EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SMARTASSES OUT THERE PLEASE JUST DON'T COMMENT OR SAY CRAP THAT IS FAKE UNLESS YOU EITHER KNOW ABOUT IT (AS RESERCHED) ALOT OR HAVE BEEN THERE.
