Four sins should have been removed from this movie:
-The protagonists are siblings instead of the lame male + female love interest.

It's so weird to me that people think this movie sucks. It's one of the most effective creature features I've ever seen, especially considering the slow reveal of the Creeper. If you watch this movie without knowing anything, you'd almost certainly think he's a human slasher until the clues continue to add up as something much more sinister. The only real complaint I have is the psychic lady but everything else about this movie is great, for a horror movie IMO

Despite its flaws the first movie is a great example of a low budget horror movie having believable interactions by the two leads, and the use of multiple set pieces so the movie feels like it is constantly moving and spanning over a large area. Too often a low budget movie just stays in one area the entire film, this movie wisely used the on the road car trip to change locals and it feel natural and within the scope of the film, and Trish is a strong female lead who never feels forced or treated like she’s just there to be rescued or something, and making them siblings instead of love interests is a breath of fresh air. This movie understood suspense and hiding your bad monster in the dark like jaws and I appreciate it for what it is. Too bad the sequels didn’t measure up

I always liked how this movie ends up being a sort of bait-and-switch in the best possible way. It starts off like a typical slasher movie with a side of mystery to uncover, slips into supernatural killer territory, and by the end has turned into an all-out monster movie. The fact that it reveals its hand little by little in a way that feels like a natural progression is impressive. Just when you think you've got the villain all figured out this movie pulls the rug right out from under you, keeping the mystery fresh and intriguing, and by the end you're still not entirely sure what the Creeper is.
(And before I get a hundred comments about it, yes, I know about the director; I'm praising the *film,* not condoning what the director did.)

Still one of the scariest movies of all time. I saw it when it was released as a young child and it terrified me for YEARS. All the way up until the second one, which even though also was scary, was nowhere near as scary as this first one. This first one has a fear never seen in horror before or any of the other Creeper movies. Truly an iconic rare movie that I am happy to have seen in my day. Always a favorite and still creepy all these decades later tbh.

I had such mix feelings. Such bad decisions at times by the characters, but there were very realistic chemistry between the siblings and even Darry's argument about calling the cops might be too late to save someone is believable (not the smart thing to do but could be a realistic dilemma of chancing risking your own life to save another or risk getting help and having them die. Example, someone drowning and you have to choose whether to call for help or attempt to save them and likely be drowned by that person)

    • @NationalSportsEntertainmentNSE

Terrible example.. those people were wrapped and unless darry And Trish add any kind of gear to rescue them it was a completely stupid and selfish decision
They clearly could’ve called the cops. Anyway, if you try and see if somebody from drowning sure they might panic and use you to try and stay afloat
But you’re not going to fucking drown. In this case they were very much going to most likely die. Darry Was incredibly lucky to even get out of the tunnel

to the sin at 10:11, I'd also like to add two bonus sins for this movie and every movie that pulls that disbelieving cops cliché. They are clearly terrified! Even if you don't instantly think there is a serial killer in the area, they are terrified and say someone ran them off the road, you would be able to see the damage to their car. They have evidence and are clearly scared, why the hell would you assume they are faking it, and you can't make the excuse that they are probably drunk or high, they are clearly sober.
Secondly nothing about what they are claiming at that point is that insane, in some movies fine, the character starts spouting off about how they saw some supernatural monster or magic, fine the cops aren't going to take that seriously. But they said they saw someone getting rid of dead bodies and got ran off the road. What part of that is crazy or too far fetched? This cliché drives me insane

The biggest sin for me was when the Creeper saw them at the diner then drove back to his lair to drop off his truck. I feel like if they had both chose to hop in their car and smash it going the opposite direction they may have actually escaped by the time he flew back to the resturant.
Also, when he ran them off the road they should have gotten back on the road and taken a different route if need be.

Are we not gonna talk about the massive continuity error of when the creeper’s truck rams the back of the protagonist car and there is no damage to the back in the very next shot and then in the next scene it’s damaged?

I'm so happy this movie was covered. This is one of the first moves where I started rooting for the monster half way through the movie. The scene where they run him over before he flies away, there's a point in which he paces back and forth and flicks his coat...I was officially on his side from that point on!
