The only thing she actually noted about liking the first dress was the silhouette. They could have shown her one of the hundreds that are fish tail with a poofy bottom so that she had both aspects. I'm just gonna assume there weren't any in her price rance... because I think the prom dress thing is going to happen again.
For my daughter's highschool prom dress I let her pick out what she wanted, but she did try on one I had picked out.....I can still see her standing in my pick, but all photos are of her pick. Her being happy was most important. It was HER prom.

Its hard to admit, as I love fishtail, but this time she looked amazing in ballgown. It wasn't this typical cupcake dress, but lovely, delicate shape. She made the decision based on her sister crying and mom's pressure.

I don't agree. I think she wanted to hide her new mom body but then was stunned by her own figure - and it was hard to change her plans but she did because she felt pretty.

U can see from the start that her 2 siblings are enthusiastically trying to show full support of her dream dress vision. I think they secretly knew their mom would win over the bride in the end. The small sister is such a mood. I also feel like crying when she said she love the lace dress AFTER she said she hated it when she was alone with the consultant.

I do not think she is domineering at all. She said what she thinks is best and her daughter agreed. She did not agree against her will as she also became very emosional when she saw herself with her veil on. There is a difference between a mother that is domineering and somebody that knows the other person well enough to know she is better than she gives herself credit for. I think a parent's main mission is to guide a child, this mother does it correctly.

I feel she did. Even the both her sisters were preferring the princess dress and her youngest one even cried when she said that she wasn't feeling as a bride wearing it, her mind was set on fitted gown since she felt pretty in it, which she explained very emotionally. There are toxic mothers and entourages out there, but I don't feel this is the case. She is pretty, sweet girl and she looked lovely in both dresses. I feel the choice was hers after all.
She just had their second baby. Maybe money is tight and mom was trying to be nice. However, she is gifting the dress by buying it for her and a gift is a gift. The daughter can choose what she wants. Giving her daughter money for her dress should not come with condition. It was a good intention gone wrong.

OK, we've had two days/three brides on SYTTD England and all three dresses were at/under budget!! So unlike David Emmanuel's shop policy if ask for the budget then ignore it! All the brides looked beautiful though.
I would be upset if I was given a dress to try on that was over budget, even if it was ‘only’ 80 pounds over. You still have to take into consideration the cost of alterations.

@@sammylee5474 you would discuss that with the consultant. Shipping wouldn’t be a factor unless you order it online and not from a bridal shop. I don’t know about taxes in Europe. In Canada, taxes would not be included in the price on the tag. So your dress budget would have to factor that in. If you can’t spend more than $1000 and there are taxes on the dresses then you would tell your consultant a lower price to make up for that. Alterations depend on the shop. Prices vary. Again you would factor that in. Your $1000 dress could end up costing $1500 or more after everything else.
It's NOT David shop!!! Why don't people ever listen? The shop is owned by Christine Dando, the designer of the Dando London dresses, and it SHE who sets the policies, NOT David Emmanuel! He's just a fashion director and spokesman for the store!

I beg to disagree. It was obvious that she got very emotional in the first dress once she fell in love in her reflection in the mirror wearing that dress. Nothing, not even her little sister's tears swayed her in her conviction that first dress gave her bridal vibes and made her feel beautiful. I don't feel this time she was pleasing anyone but herself.

The only times I kind of side with the moms on this is when it is a church wedding and the bride wants a really sexy revealing dress. In that case, I think the bride either needs to compromise a bit on the dress or consider a jacket or some other kind of cover up for church that can be removed for the reception.

I think we've got it all wrong when it comes to the role of the person paying for the dress. If you pay for the dress, that is a gift. It is not an agreement that carries the condition that you get to have a say in what the decision will be. To offer a gift this way is so controlling and it keeps the receiver, especially an adult daughter as in this case, in a subservient position when what is really hoped for is that this is now a functioning adult capable of making their own decisions.

I think the dress showed off that she just had a baby. Should have picked the second dress.

I remember my mom wanted me to buy a prom dress I absolutely hated. I tried on one I absolutely loved but was more expensive. I think my dad had a hand in it, but they ended up buying for me the dress I loved. Mom and I also butted heads on my wedding dress. She wanted my dress to be lace. I didn’t. I ended up not buying the dress fabric for it while I was visiting her in California. I bought the fabric while I was visiting my dad and step mom in Nevada. I found a beautiful off white moire fabric for my wedding dress. Simple but timeless.

Well, guess what...Life is not a fairy tale. If others support you and pay your bills, you are not financially independent and they have right to make decisions for you. If you are not adult enough to be financially independent and to stand up for what you want in life, you're not adult enough to get married. You're rushing from one depending relationship (with parents) to another one with different person (husband). And that's not wise thing to do, nor healthy place to be.

If you are not adult enough to stand for yourself, you are not adult enough to get married. We are projecting our own unresolved and unhealed issues on people we see online without knowing anything about them. You decided that this is an abusive relationship because her mother dared to have an opinion. People do. It's OK. If it's not OK, you don't accept gifts from them, you don't make them part of your life. If you don't have a choice, that's a huge problem. You don't know the nature of the relationship between this bride and her mom. To me, they look fine. You also don't know if the bride is financially independent or her partner is supporting her. You're projecting and judging based on her mom making a joke. She was perfectly OK with her choosing any other dress. It happens that she fell in love with the one her mom likes.
