here's my memories about TDU : I made the physics, hardcore mode, camera system, and device input code of this game ;) and for The Crew too. And I agree hardcore mode should have been the default mode. But because of a bug in my differential simulation found only 2 weeks from release date, we couldn't retune the AI and missions timings.
Is your name maybe Sebastien Tixier? :D This is my all time favorite driving game, I get the feeling you were heading into hardcore open world simulation territory, but the company behind you had other things in mind. Hardcore mode is not Asseto Corsa, but man, it remains the most realistic open world driving game to date. Salute my friend, awesome work!
@@seb-kun You made my, and I believe as many other, childhood and adulthood great. Physics are awesome. In fact, I learned to drive cars in real life just because TDU have that hardcore mode and clutch engagement. For me, every car has different clutch feeling and engine braking. When I cruise around the island I don't use brake at all. Only engine braking. And the fact when you are doing let's say normal cruise on highway at 150km/h in the left lane, the car ahead of you react as he see you in his rearview mirror from distance and notice that you're doing greater speed than he is, puts his right indicator on while moving to the right lane and let you pass. Great work mate. Thank you!
Hey, great to have you here and thank-you for all of your hard work... You lot created a special game! I thought that about the hardcore mode... So many layers of gameplay would have to be adapted to suit, basically a second game. At the end of the day, the handling worked well for the majority of driving game fans, and was intuative/less frustrating to get the hang of. So no bad thing in my opinion 😊
A while back, I bought an '04 Kawasaki ZX-10R. Then after many years, I loaded TDU. In my garage was... THE SAME BIKE! I couldn't believe that I bought the game bike many years later and never even noticed. They got the look, sound, gauges - everything right. So cool.
@@CarsandCats Hey m8. Do you have the digital version of tdu1 and/or its DLC content? I’d be willing to pay you if you’d be willing to gameshare them with me .

It’s the best. It wore out my ps2 and my ps3 backwards but more hours on this than anything else and I have to keep starting over due to ps2 ps3 breaking
This game, hardcore mode, online drifting the mountains at constant sunset and twilight were the best gaming memories i've had and probably will ever have gaming. Pure vibes and realistic cruising around the island road trip style with friends was the unique experience which created the genre i think. People praise forza horizon and the crew for being the best open world racers but i feel like TDU doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Forza and the crew lack one thing, the fact that they are a fantasy game, their maps are just a compilation of cool parts of whatever part of the world they are trying to imitate, TDU and TDU2 made us feel like we were actually in hawaii or ibiza, and that is what made them special.
Ill never forget drag racing on the long strip in the city that was right against the river. There was a glitch, if you held the E-brake and shifted gears up and down really fast, the RPM's would drop to zero and the tires would smoke and if you launched from that you would be unbeatable down that straight!
The hours I put into this game was insane, especially with my friends online. It was a special game for sure. I have a bad feeling TDU3 won't capture what TDU and TDU2 did. But, there's hope that I am wrong.
@flyingphoenix113 there's an interview on YT with one of the devs who confirmed that 1. The demo was an old one, stating they couldn't dedicate any more resources into making a new demo outof the current state of the game and 2nd the always online will faze out towards the end of the servers being shut down cuz they don't want the same mistake ubisoft did with the crew.
As someone who has spent a lot of time talking about Solar Crown in comparison to its 2006 predecessor, it was genuinely wonderful to hear someone give a dense and comprehensive discussion of the racer that sparked my love for video games almost 20 years ago. Mahalo!
TDU's sense of discovery and adventure was even more incredible when you ventured off the roads and tried climbing Oahu's mountains. With persistence, a bit of creativity and enough brute force, you could overcome the in-game physics and access areas the developers never expected you to see. I've still got the screenshots from the top of Ka'ala mountain somewhere.
I remember playing this game on ps2 then last year i replayed it on pc, and i gotta say its one of my favorite open world racing games till this day, the map was large and the car list was huge i still remember driving on the highway in my f1 McLaren, being able to buy houses and customize my character was pretty decent, as for online im so glad that the community brought back online, there are tons of online clubs you can join and its very chill
TDU never gets boring because you can jump in any of your dream cars and go for a blast on 1000 miles of open roads on a tropical paradise island whenever you like!
As always the mod community is what keeps these games alive, i played them since the original back in the 80s, and still play TDU2 to this day, TDUSC has a lot of work to do to equal the depth of what TDU2 is, i think they will be able to do it, it will just take a little time. These games are one of a kind.
The game that changed my take on open-world driving games! I got a PC disc copy in 2016, sadly after the official online servers shut down. Now I'm playing with the Platinum mod!
For me TDU is the game version of 2004 to let's say 2011 Top Gear, when they were at their prime. I love it, because it's not overloaded with stuff to do and distractions. It's you and your collection of cars plus some racing and delivery/models missions as an afterthought ;)
I'm a long time Horizon player and occasional NFS player. Never plated TDU before until the Solar Crown demo. I've now found a copy of TDU 2 for PC. Loving it and I get why people loved it so much.
I remember how I played this on my friends PC and immediately went out to buy in for my PS2, only to be disappointed that the PS2 version lacked dashboard view!
The PS2 version had no secret Island either! They had to make a lot of sacrifices in comparison to PC and 360 versions, but thankfully, the important stuff still worked well :)
Thank you for the gameplay footage of these great games. I had forgotten tdu offroad until you mentioned it. I have been dying to go back and play tdu for years. Unfortunately, the servers have been down for 14 years now. I am dying for a remastered tdu. Solar crown looks like a blight on the great tdu name. Thank you for bringing back old memories of tdu. Truly was the best racing game ever. That large map makes horizon 5 look tiny in comparison.
I've never met a car game nor before nor since, that can handle the h-shifter and sequential gear change at the same time. If I've set the option to H pattern with clutch, it still do not work in cars like the Gallardo, the Enzo, the ones build with paddle shifter. And the paddle doesn't work in the Esprit, Evora, and so on, the ones whit H shifter in real life. The coolest feature ever. Not to mention, with manual clutch, the engine can stall...
100%! I loved this feature when re-visiting the game and capturing all the footage. Made it so easy to experience the authentic layout without having to research it or constantly switch settings.
This game came out when I was like 12 so I have heavy nostalgia for it, I remember the game is 617sq km while Oahu irl is on 608 sq km so it's technically bigger but is lacking some roads and residential areas that irl has
I bought an xbox 360 just for this game. At the time there was nothing like it, no forza horizon. Pretty much all racing games were track only, not open world. TDU2 was also great

I always remember being surprised when I stumbled across these. Felt like I knew everything, realised there was a whole other chapter of discovery! Glad you enjoyed the video Callum 😊
How did you go getting it to work with a DD wheel? I have a Moza wheel. I've just reinstalled TDU with the Platinum mod, but the Moza Pit House software causes it to crash at the first menu screen.
Might be down to a specific wheelbase then sadly! I tried with a Logitech Pro and with a Fanatec DD Pro, they just worked out of the box for me after the regular controller configuration process. Good luck getting it working!
I controlled the bikes in TDU with my G25 while in handle bar view. Excellent experience. I'm very much looking forward to setting up my R5 for TDUSC Just found my TDU DVD.

The best thing that TD does well is car owenship. The only game that’s close to it is Grand theft auto. There is nothing like owning your own mansions with 10 car garages where you can go in the garage and walk around your car collection.
