I fucking hate all the diablo 2 guides. They all go "respec into this at lvl 98" . Like dude the fuck do I do the first 5000 hours of the game?! I can figure out the part where I take the things that cost me 50 highrunes and smash them together and then click all the synergies in my skill tree
@@thenuclearrabbit dude same. I used to watch a lot of D2 TH-camrs but they never talked about actually playing the game. They only ever discussed max level gg gear builds. It’s just tiresome because there is zero variety. Playthroughs are much more interesting. Random drops and themed runs are way more fun to do. I like no Runeword playthroughs or no shopping allowed type of stuff. Or just SSF in general.
Quick correction: Life leech does work on the undead, unless they are skeletons. It even works on Pindleskin and his type of monster, because they are not "just" skeletons, but rather like the Iron Maiden mascot Eddie.

Oh the class specific ones are all very good except aldurs and trang ouls. The rest murder the entire game without a problem Upped headstrikers are probably just legit good endgame gear till you get to oath
The swords are about on par with what I usually end up with. The gloves are top tier ssf. The rest of it is so much worse than what I usually use that not even the set bonuses really save it. Thank you for watching :)
There is a full sigon's run I recorded on the channel. I want to do all the sets at some point but for a lot of them it's a big puzzle on how to make it viable so they take a while to figure out :)

Well done. I had a Telling of Beads drop for me a ladder or two ago and it made me briefly consider doing a Disciple set run, but well as you've discovered the set items are simply underwhelming with the exception of LoH. You mentioned early in the video that defence does nothing and this is a bit of a bugbear of mine, high defence is pretty good for survivability but you have to build towards it and also have you shift your playstyle since defence=0 when you run. For instance, a Concentrate Barb is *very safe* if a slow killer, and Paladin with max Holy Shield is as well. These builds are built around high defence and they can push it really high. Also glad to see you trying some of the other mercenaries. I have a soft spot for the non-Act II mercs because nobody ever uses them and they must get lonely :(
The amulet isn't horrible either +1 skills and 2 res isn't atrocious. But the other pieces are such trash. The entire set seriously is worse than doing some random ssf run, I would gladly take sigon's over all of it. I know defence can work, but it's very hit or miss. And unless you heavily focus on it it's never relevant. This does make me want to do a super high defense run at some point though. I'm actually curious how high I could get the defense in a ssf run now. But I'm recording 4 other runs currently so gonna go ahead and put that in the evergrowing list of to-do-runs. The act 3 merc was fantastic, I wasn't overselling him at all he was way better than I had ever expected. I like the barb mercs as well for stacking aura's or just making them these super fast crushing blow cannons
@@thenuclearrabbit Defense is only good if you have a significant buff to it, like shout with a significant number of points in it, but it's difficult to get without running two accounts (which is what I did). A second account with a dedicated barb with max Shout/BO/BC, and upped ViperMagi got my HC ladder sorc to 15K+ defense which reduces most enemy hit chances to 25% in Hell Act 5. Only aura enchanted packs remain a threat in terms of physical damage (my worst near death was an extra fast might pack of goats camping the stairs during a Countess run).

I already did a sigon's playthrough once. Not with a barb though, but I would just go 5 piece sigon's with dual grief so I'm not very into the idea to be honest
Fun thing you can do to try and make Trang-Oul's better. Walk all the time. You'll get your full defense but being a Vampire means you always move the same movement speed whether walking/running. It's the only example I can think of that makes this bad set a little better.
I prefer playing on console by a lot actually. Played 2 decades on pc as well, but my couch is very nice and it's just chill with the gf in a way it will never be on pc
yeah in classic WhirlWind isn't affected by IAS so you can use even a Bonesnap and be at 5hits naturally so it makes for some crazy builds, also DEFENSE does work on classic too@@thenuclearrabbit
hm, for the undead revive problem you could try Nature's Peace Ring. as your kill speed is to slow, you could scare them away with that one warcries skill and kill one by one instead of standing in the pack. your merc is a ranger so, he will have no problem hitting them. also you did not show your merc stuff. maybe a Cure helm und treachery armor could help him to stay alive.
i dislike how low level sets are basicly pointless in a normal run of diablo 2 since you will never have a full set by the time there are better gear. there basicly only there if you are going to give it to a lower level character.
I wish Barbabian was better in the end-game. Skills should be modified to give him some aoe damage. The only easy way to go though the content for me was War Cry build. High survivability, not that great dmg though. It's sad that with such gear and 550% dmg do demons they are dying so slowly. Nice video.
Barbarian endgame gear is very powerful. The problem is that he has too many masteries forcing you into a weapon you may or may not find. Barb is basically just the hard mode button in D2
Great video idea. One of things that eventually made me quit D2 was the feeling that the itemisation had been 'solved' and every run was a chase to XYZ best in slot items for a particular already proven build. Totslly dispelled the magic of cobbling together and experimenting. Cool to see 'redundant' items given a proper road test.

I have been recommended Grim Dawn an absolute fuckton. I really need to get on that Edit: bought the game. Went to check it out for 5 minutes. Ended up playing for almost 2 hours. Yep, this is my jam for sure
24 years later leveling as a melee still at the bottom , definitely need buff ,everytime i challenge myself to do a melee run i regret it , its kinda sad only viable ssf barb is a singer
I don't agree with that, I've completed frenzy, whirlwind and berserk and am currently in the process of editing a double density whirlwind barb run. So it's all viable, but I do agree they are hard runs.

I would like it if yellow items could have dam reduce %, cannot be frozen and + skills. They would become very relevant. Enchantress system could be fun but I could also see it becoming too powerful

Figured with no Gore Riders or Goblin toe boots it would speed the killing up. I have also recently gone to using a wand to cast life tap for Ubers, Dclone or any bosses or packs - safer than waiting on drac's to kick in though shopping a wand is time consuming. gl
Yeah an uber barb is a very different beast compared to what I'm playing. I've tried a few builds to ubers for the channel but except for the fohdin they all went very poorly
Yikes, upgrading Aldurs mace barely does anything. However the whole set does give 350% enhanced damage, so the upped aldurs star in your video would have a damage of 290-402. Its not terrible, and that is not including the 200% damage to demons modifier it has. The set also does not include gloves, so it can be combined with Laying of hands for even more damage to demons So I would say with the Aldurs set they tried to make it better, they did not try very hard, mind you, but they did atleast think about it.

If this thing had a 200-250% enhanced damage modifier on it it would be a decent weapon, and a better low budged option, compared to the expensive runewords Dualwielding this as a barbarian also gives you 400% damage to demons, and since, what 1/3 or so monsters are demons, its quite strong. Hell you could even throw 3 Pul runes into each one for another 450% damage to demons, that's a total of 1200% with laying of hands :O
That set bonus to ed counts as off-weapon ed,so the damage would not be as you listed,but rather lower. It's effectively like wearing lohs while wielding aldurs- not nothing, but not nearly as significant as on-weapon ed. The weapon needs on weapon ed or a significant quantity of max by clvl,like near- windforce significant.

Okay I've read up on it abit, and yeah its complicated. Its just a flat 350, while if it was on the weapon it would be attributed to all of the other calculations. @@thenuclearrabbit NPCs flipping items like they're GPUs during Covid. 💀 After watching your poison build videos, I was honestly surprised how relatively smooth this run was. I always only hear the worst about set items, and how they're the worst ARPG concept, but this wasn't so awful. Granted, the 7 poison damage per second at level 60+ is a little crazy.
The problem with them is that it's almost impossible to find a full set in a single playthrough, and by the time you have them, you also have way stronger gear. If you just gift them to yourself, most of them are fine. But for endgame stuff, fine just isn't good enough.

It's a remnant of classic where there wasn't any better gear and the levels where much lower. But yeah it feels off in LoD.
I rocked the disciple set as a sorc - it was decent. But for duel sword why don't you use Frenzy...?

I think it's a misunderstanding. I went into frenzy first and after that during hell I specced into berserk with 1 point to deal with phys immunes

Okay I've read up on it abit, and yeah its complicated. Its just a flat 350, while if it was on the weapon it would be attributed to all of the other calculations.
Easy fix tho, give the weapon itself a +250-300% Ed value

After watching your poison build videos, I was honestly surprised how relatively smooth this run was. I always only hear the worst about set items, and how they're the worst ARPG concept, but this wasn't so awful. Granted, the 7 poison damage per second at level 60+ is a little crazy.
The problem with them is that it's almost impossible to find a full set in a single playthrough, and by the time you have them, you also have way stronger gear.
If you just gift them to yourself, most of them are fine. But for endgame stuff, fine just isn't good enough.
